Round 6 WPL
Para Hills Knights vs West Adelaide
8:15 PM / Fri 8 May
The Paddocks
FFSA U14/15 Girls vs Adelaide University
2:00 PM / Sun 10 May
Elite Systems Football Centre
Sturt Marion vs Adelaide City
3:00 PM / Sun 10 May
Marion Sports & Community Club
Cumberland United vs Fulham United
3:00 PM / Sun 10 May
Women's Memorial Playing Fields
Metro United WFC BYE
Round 6 this weekend and it kicks off tonight with the Para Hills Knights hosting West Adelaide at the paddocks. The under achieving / performing West Adelaide would be desperate for all 3 points against a Para Hills side who would also be needing a good result if they are to maintain touch with the top 4 or 5 sides. A tough one to predict, but i'll stick my neck out and say West to claim the spoils in a close contest.
The FFSA side host Adelaide Uni on Sunday. Reports suggest that the FFSA are over coming a few injury concerns and they'll need to be in good form if they are to hold out the quick and fast Chilean import. I think Uni might continue FFSA's bad start and win by a several goals.
Match of the round pits last weeks surprise packet Sturt against Adelaide City. Can Sturt maintain last weeks form and do Metro a favour by knocking of the always strong City outfit ? I'm not sure they can and I think City will take over top spot for the first time this season in a close tussle.
Finally Cumberland host Fulham in another interesting fixture. Fulham are the big improvers so far this season and with Cumberland getting of the mark last week, this game might be an interesting one for any neutral observers. Close to call, but i'm predicting honours to be even after 90 minutes.

Might try to get to Cumby v Fulham game this week - should be good.

I agree PVFC- except I think Sturt might come away with a win. Hope to see you at womens memorial.
Re: Round 6 WPL
Watched the PH Knights v West Adelaide (Reserves) game.
PH Knights (3) v West Adelaide (5)
West Adelaide played the long ball allowing the forward to score 4 out of the 5 goals.
Knights players played football and had a number of scoring opportunities.
PH Knights should have received a penalty after a player was pulled to the ground but the referee determined that it was a West Adelaide free kick. A lot of dirty play by West Adelaide which reflected the style of the coach.
Disappointed in the quality of the referee for this match. Especially when the Reserve teams rely on club person to assist with the lines. It shows when deciding offside.
Stayed around for some of the Prems match and early signs showed this was going to be West Adelaide's night.

Does anyone know the final score of the Prems match from last night? It's not up on the website yet.

Well Junior Supporter, I notice that you don't seem to rate City as you have twice mentioned them (On this forum) in a less than positive manner. Do you have an issue with City? Just seems to me that, player for player, they seem to have a fairly good squad and certainly worthy title challengers.juniorsupporter wrote:I agree PVFC- except I think Sturt might come away with a win. Today they beat Sturt 4-1. Did you base your prediction on the fact that Sturt beat Metro last week?

Well United- clearly I picked it incorrectly. Yes, the result last weekend played a part in my prediction, but it was not the sole determinant. I have nothing against City- I just think, that through attrition and injury, that City isn't quite as strong in their roster as they have been in previous seasons. I also think, that given Sturt's roster, they can, or should be able to, beat almost anyone on the day. Clearly they are having some problems with consistency. That being said, if you look back far enough in my posts, you will see that I have always been an admirer of Eduardo's ability to win the league year in and year out no matter who is out there for him on the pitch. I don't think that saying that I don't think a team is going to win is mentioning them "in less than a positive manner". I meant no insult. I just thought that Sturt had more than a reasonable chance.
I have nothing against City, I just had an opinion about who I thought would win today. Clearly I was incorrect.

Thanks for the vote of support UWS and JS. Finally got fed up with the negative conversations regarding the local womens scene and decided to put up and not shut up. There are plenty of those threads that paint a negative picture of the local scene. It would be nice to see some more engagement from other regular forumites in the WPL threads...hope that that happens soon.
That aside, Winners this weekend went mainly as predicted. Well done to west on a hard fought victory, to City on what appears to have been a easier than predicted victory, to Uni for another win albeit against the struggling FFSA ( 11 goals to Rojas ! ) side and then finally Fulham on a narrow victory ( JS, care to enlighten ? )

Re: Round 6 WPL
Fulham/Cumby a scrappy affair- Fulham had more chances, although Cumby had a couple as well on the counter. Both sides had some trouble finishing. Also several Fulham players struggling with injuries atm. I also understand that Cumby were missing a couple as well. Not pretty but the proper result I think.

In regards to the FFSA scores this season it absolutely breaks my heart that teams are going out there and punishing these poor girls every week Shame on T J for following suit as she comes from the system, you are proving no point by doing this! These are our future stars and every week premiere league coaches choose pride and ego at the expense and
the confidence of these poor young girls. It's like a competition to see which striker in the league can score the most against them. Shame on you all! The team should be pulled out of the league and made a development training squad. The poor girls surely can't be enjoying getting a hammering every week, they would develop and enjoy the game a lot more playing for their club team on a Sunday. We can bitch and moan about the FFSA and the system but coaches going out there and thrashing them by double figures makes things so much worse

I speak to a girl in the FFSA set-up regularly and she has never complained once about the thrashings. She is over the moon looking forward to Coffs Harbour though.Fitball wrote:Worthless Gobemouche wrote:Thanks for the vote of support UWS and JS. Your words ring true - to some clubs a scoreline is a source of pride, but think about why they don't keep scores with the very little uns - it's not about the goals, it's about the development. You could have them play with their respective clubs and develop, but playing with the best girls of their age together (regardless of scorelines) and training with the same players that bag hat-tricks against them is a positive.
This gets discussed so much but it's never going to be a system that pleases everyone - as soon as they start winning people will complain the refs are favouring them, or they pulled the best players away from the clubs they're beating, etc. I choose to see the positives, and even if I don't agree with everything regarding the set-up, it serves a purpose.

Re: Round 6 WPL
just saw shanklands post re; west adelaide v PH Reserves game, he/she must have been watching from the bar, it was a good competitive game as it should be.
heard some disrespectfull comments from the PH area as players were coming of at half time but nothing untoward.
Yes referee made some mistakes but that will happen, There was an obvious back pass from the PH player to keeper which ref deemed player under presure?? but still a backpass? Yes there was a penalty shout, referee deemed the PH player was pushing the WA defender before they both went to ground. But overal I thought game refereed OK and thought game was played in good spirit.
Both teams created many good scoring opportunities.

Re: Round 6 WPL
the barbarian in response to the penalty shout at the Knights v West reserves match.
From where I was sitting. The WA player was pushed by her own player. She tried to stop from falling so grabbed onto the PH player. The PH player has a lovely scratch to remind her.
A few WA players used tactics, like pulling hair. I suppose if it helps to win then it's ok.
The apparent pass back. Very hard for the Referee to make a decision on that call as he wasn't in a good position to know. The Linesperson would have been and didn't raise the flag. This happened for both teams.
Just my observations

Re: Round 6 WPL
Pulling Hair??? hard to do when most players had there hair in buns above there heads. obviously like most of us, ref did not see any hair pulling?? I do not recall any yellow cards, as a matter of fact I do not recall many free kicks awarded either way?? but stand to be corrected. Thought the game was played in good spirit, but if you think different that is your call. Obviously your version of the penalty shout was not the same as the refs as he awarded free to WA, maybe ref was coloured blind.
anyway was an enjoyable game lets move on and stop complaning.

And what club is that Fitbull? I have already stated that I don't really have a club that I support in the women's game. I mainly watch the men's game. However, I have good friends at both Sturt and Adelaide City. I enjoy the City vs Westies clashes and make a point of going to those if work commitments allow ( I am regularly overseas with work). Besides, I thought that you liked me christening you as "Fitbull!"
