FFSA V E&DJSA
Does anyone know why you can play for your school on a saturday and a federation team on a sunday, but cannot play for a Elizabeth & District team on saturday and a federation team on a sunday, as stated in the rules of E&DJSA?
I thought the idea was that kids should be allowed to progress and be taught to their highest potential in a POSITIVE environment. It seems that unfortunately, political in-fighting between FFSA and E&DJSA is prohibiting kids from doing this.
How can an association or federation which has been set up to help kids, be allowed to hinder their progress? Is it legal? Personally I think it is an abuse of their rights of freedom of choice.
And people wonder why the state is not producing enough good youngsters. The answer is obvious.

You can only play for one school because you only go to one school and they probably play on the same day and at the same time. In the age group my son is in, E&D play saturday and federation play sunday.
My son plays for an E&D team, that has room for an extra player in the squad. He wants to play for a federation team that are short of players, so he is not taking anyones place. He just wants to play more football, with different skills and different coaching, so that he can learn more.
The point is E&D will not allow him to play for a federation team, which is short of players. What is the logic for that? And what moral right do they have to dictate that?

You can only play for one club because you should only be at one club not two. If a player could play for E&D and then a Fed. culb. It would open the door for player to play both. This would have alot of players missing out in the long run.
I think that the logic is there.
This is a rule not a moral right!!

What if 5 kids want to play E&D and Fed, and E&D do not allow it, so the kids go to the fed team and their old E&D team has to fold because there is not enough players, who misses out then?
As I said, in my sons case no-one misses out except my son, because of a rule. Should the rules be more flexible so that everyone gets a fair go?

I am involved in a junior cricket comp that allows for players to play at both a "district" level and a local level, this would equate to the situation you are talking about. All that happens is the "best" players play both and force out the other lads from the game altogether.
With regards to FFSA and E&D, I do not think there has been a problem historically and I see no reason why they would change the rules and ruin a great setup. In fact I would encourage the creation of more bodies like E&D for the benefit of players across Adelaide who are deemed not worthy by clubs that have trials and turn people away.
I am involved with a club at E&D level and have previously encouraged the better players at my club to move over to FFSA clubs for their own personal development in the game.

If that situation did occur then the players can move to other clubs in the area, as there are not trials for players, at E&D, if teams have spots available and the kids want to play they are in. We had to try a few clubs before we found one for my son, but he has been there for 5 years now and is very happy.harrycripps wrote:What if 5 kids want to play E&D and Fed, and E&D do not allow it, so the kids go to the fed team and their old E&D team has to fold because there is not enough players, who misses out then?

FFSA use trials to control who gets to play, E&D is an inclusive competition, different strokes for different folks.
ffsa v edjsa
i would like to know why on earth you would want to play for a ffsa club and a e&d club ????????? ![Razz :P](./images/smilies/icon_razz.gif)

Harry think of this e&d keep it this way because the clubs that want to be the best everywhere inevery comp can have a far superior player come in from a higher fed team and play in a lower division to what chance do the players stand against a child that much better.
Besides the comp in the e&d is very strong and if you alow the e&d sides to play heads up on the fed boys think some of the so called big clubs might get shown up.

First of all thankyou everyone for your replies, most people see things from their own perspective, and I think all the replies are based on that individuals perception of fairness.
I know how strong the E&D is as I have 3 boys playing in ithe E&D, and I have coached a team as well.
In my opinion, there is too much division between FFSA and E&D, and unless the 2 bodies work more closely many E&D kids will be disadvantaged.
I agree with toon-man, not many kids will come over from FFSA to E&D, mainly because if they do not live in the north or north-east, they will stick fo FFSA clubs or school soccer. However most kids in our area start in E&D, and go to Federation at 10 or 11, probably for a higher standard of coaching. As a majority of coaches in E&D, are mums or dads, nearly all with basic coaching abilities, and many emotionally blackmailed into coaching to make sure the team can play the season, they come and go.
I intend no offense to those coaches , in fact I know my sons coach will read this, and he has only coached soccer for 3 years, having an AFL upbringing, and has done a superb job. But he coaches primarily because his son is in the team, and knows his limitations as a coach.
I want my son to continue playing for his E&D team, and although he is one of the better players, he is very much part of the team. But we might be forced to leave next season because of this rule.
Once again thankyou for your comments, they have been taken on board.

If the above is correct then that implies that FFSA is exclusive and E & D is Inclusive.
:?
read on first
However having had sons at both and coached at both i would avoid the exclusive tag at Federation as I agreed there are a lot of E & D teams that could hold their own against some of the FFSA sides.
FFSA do not always get referees and some of the pitches leave a lot to be desired but on the whole if your (Harry Cripps) sons are enjoying their game then top marks to the coach for learning the sport.
Coaching clinics are posted on the FFSA websites and are not exclusive to the FFSA try http://www.ffsa.com.au/cdevcors.asp and encourage the coach to "keep it up"![](//cdn.jsdelivr.net/gh/twitter/twemoji@latest/assets/svg/1f609.svg)
Good luck on the weekend too![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)

Barney more importantly the 2 comps should combine the best of both worlds and allow the E&D clubs to enter the cups to start with and let the clubs good or bad see the next level.
Then the sides from all areas should be combined and allowed to mix and play off week in week out, this will lift the whole comp.
Finally make all the teams from 19 and above be available to help in training kids from all locations not just the one's they play for thus creating a mentality that all players and codes are looking after the game not just a nationality or culture after all how many E&D clubs have that much history.
If they can't do the children then get them in to help the coaches on a regular basis after all an 8 hr course is not giving you real world instruction its just given you the frame to build the knowledge on but having old heads show an change a few minor problems can change a year of mistakes

I come from the other side of town and therefore do not know about E&D.
What we have is Southern Districts Junior Soccer Association which runs the school soccer competitions from Anzac Hwy through to Morphett Vale.
Each age level from Under 8's through to Senior Primary has between 40-50 teams spread over a number of divisions.
The players involved simply have to be part of one of the schools that put a team in (both State and Private schools).
Children are playing both Club (federation) and school soccer.
SDJSA runs coaching courses for parents that are willing to put their hands up and referee courses as well (all at no charge).
I have coached for the last 4 years in this competition and am incredibly thrilled to say that this year 5 of my kids have moved to club soccer - having developed the confidence though playing for fun at school.
In addition, I had one lad who was having his confidence sapped though an ordinary club coach (in a very strong team) who was able to improve his game by the confidence he received playing with his mates in the school comp.
Therefore I see the ability to play both as very important. Of my Senior Primary team from last year 9 are now playing club soccer at 5 different federation clubs (including one womans team).....its got to be good for the sport.
As they are all hitting high school this year I continue to follow all of them and encourage their further development.

Nice post New Boot.
I think that bringing in the E & D would be a good idea for the cup competitions, not necessarily the league though, just yet.
If the First Div teams were seeded through the first round it may stave off some of the heavy scorelines we saw this weekend
Pending this, a review of teams can be made as to their abilities and integration into a larger / stronger league may well work.
However
given some player movement a team may look strong one year then players move up, on or out so you could have a bit of a yoyo effect until it settles down.
Well done New Boot.
I'll send your suggestion to the FFSA for action, hopefully they have $50k per annum spare in their bank to fund the idea
Agree with the U19's + helping out within the club too, lets face it an outstanding U15's may go to the U19's the following year and if they can associate with the older players it will be a great "heads up" for them

Hollygirl from what i understand the sytems both started as schools comps which the e&d has on their web site and progressed into the comp today.
I also have seen the development of players during the years and some have gone onto bigger and better with a couple vigorously chased by para hills so the school / e&d system works.
but with the lack of unity from all sides effecting the juniors development the current crop will be left behind which is where the ffsa needs to unify and allow (as has been stated by harrycripps) juniors to mix in both comps.
with this in mind the coaching and player level will increase as a part of natural course, just as it will for a child moving up in grade at school.
