Great to see Ray Dixon still involved. Bags of enthusiasm and still young at heart.

Why would you field an U11 team in the U12 JSL?

Why would you prematurely move players from 9 a side to 11 a side?

Each year our Junior Football Director, Neil Young, provides academy training for selected juniors within the club. It has been identified that to assist with player development of this age group the club will consider selecting an U11 Development Squad with the intention of playing them in the U12 JSL competition. The final decision will be made after the trials based on team selection. Players who do not wish to be considered for this squad can play in the U11 competition with our other two teams. Players will be able to move between the two age groups throughout the playing season.

Is this about fast tracking the development of individual skills or is this about wanting to get them experiencing 11a side football earlier?

Have you cleared this with the FFSA? Have you spoken to Airton to confirm that he agrees that this is in the best interests of the players to push up a full team? Are other clubs doing this too? What if all the clubs started doing this? Are some clubs trying to get a head start on other u12 JPL clubs by first giving them a year in the U12 JSL?

Cumberland always have to copy other ideas from other clubs, and say it is their own. Will they be as successful as the Adelaide City team this year . Time will tell.

What constitutes success in your eyes?
I don't think Cumberland are copying AC, I have watched the current Gold u10 group that Chris has and they are very good. I think they possibly could have done this two years ago with the group that were this years u12JPL squad.

I persuaded the AC committee to set this team and process up in order to make the transition from SSF to 11-a- side less daunting. No "JPL pressure" just play and learn, focus mainly on coaching 4-3-3 and improve their skills and positional sense. Time will tell if we are successful but first year impressions say its worth pursuing for another season.

I think all the boys have improved, but at the same time there were others we left in the U11 who have developed as much if not more. They just needed more time and more importantly needed the confidence to use their skills and when many of the very capable players aren't there to give the ball to they have taken the responsibility.

As said in one of the earlier posts if the quality of players is there and the child and parent are happy to do it then its a good stepping stone for the transition from SSG. The players we have for next season are a very talented group and I have high hopes they will all benefit greatly from the experience.

Cumberland United does not base its junior structure on what other clubs are doing but what they believe is best for their individual teams. We would not know, or care, what other clubs are doing.

We must be doing something right as we had more junior division winners then any other club.

A reflection on our Junior Football Director and his development program for junior players and coaches in 2014.

u13JPL - yes
u14JPL - no
u15JPL - no
u16JPL - no
u17JPL - yes

1 other club also got 2, another club is still in the running for 2

Cumberland United acknowledges the results of all their junior teams in the competitive age groups, it seems others don't.

The strength of our JSL teams provides player movement opportunities between age group teams which we recognise and encourage.

Nothing like coming up against a Cumby JSL team stacked with JPL players.
Either those JPL players were under preforming that week or JSL players were picked in the wrong team at the start of the year.

Which jsl teams were "stacked"? A lot of talent going through the club down there. Not sure I saw one team play " the long ball game"

Everyone whinges that clubs don't release the names of their coaches for next season in a timely fashion.

Then when a club does, the cyber bullies crawl out from under their rocks en masse and start dumping on that club.

How can you say any JSL teams are "stacked" with JPL players when more often than not - they play at the same time.

I've played at the club for 8 years now and never in that time have I been told to 'kick it long'. Each year the coaches have promoted a passing game and this year it looks like its been paying off with 5 division winning sides.
