Re: Man Utd
Is it really true that Arsenal have won 2 trophies since man Utd last won a competitive game?

Re: Man Utd
ins
Nigel De Jon, midfielder - AC Milan
Daley Blind - defence/defensive mid - Ajax
Angel Di Maria - Winger/attack mid - Real
Possible before deadline
Ron Vlaar - Centre Back - Aston Villa
Uncertain - Marcos Rojo
Outs
Kagewa - Dortmund
Hernandez - Real
Possible outs
Anderson - Mid
Fellaini - Mid
Lindengaard - keeper
Wellbeck - forward/winger
If the deal with Ron Vlaar goes through, along with Van Persie we'll have half the dutch national side in the team
seems with the inclusion of Di Maria, Blind, De Jon and possibly Rojo/Vlaar, LVG is restoring balance to the team.. im confident within the coming 2-3 months we'll be back to playing as we should be
probably be too late to contend for the title by then but a top 4 finish is certainly achievable..
so you pecker heads can lap it up while it lasts

Blind is probably the signing I'm most happy about. £34m for Shaw and £60m (or up to £130m if you believe the headlines) for Di Maria who IMO Man U weren't desperate for is crazy talk.Kosta Utd wrote:PDog wrote:frail at the back though.

Re: Man Utd
yep - you'll arguably get more out of Blind, and got him for a reasonable price. Versatile between midfield and defence too, so that's a bonus, always good to have options.Stuckey wrote:Blind is probably the signing I'm most happy about. £34m for Shaw and £60m (or up to £130m if you believe the headlines) for Di Maria who IMO Man U weren't desperate for is crazy talk.Kosta Utd wrote:PDog wrote:frail at the back though.

Re: Man Utd
spot on about Blind being a fantastic acquisition but your dead wrong about Di Maria.. United desperately needed a winger (along with defenders and midfielders).. who else in the team would fit that role, especially with the system LVG wants to play?Stuckey wrote:Blind is probably the signing I'm most happy about. £34m for Shaw and £60m (or up to £130m if you believe the headlines) for Di Maria who IMO Man U weren't desperate for is crazy talk.

This does concern me, especially with our defensive issues and the transfer window closed.. LVG is confident he will be in a united shirt on the pitch soon enough.. anyway im sure some under the counter $$ thrown the way of his old neighbour will sort things out.. funny how this has only just surfaced now after so many yearsPDog wrote:Rojo - interesting situation with that fella, he may not even get on the pitch for you.Kosta Utd wrote:PDog wrote:frail at the back though.

I agree that the club needs quality wingers but £60m is insane. The bloke was valued at £30m last season so why pay double that?Kosta Utd wrote:spot on about Blind being a fantastic acquisition but your dead wrong about Di Maria.. I also agree the club need defenders that clear to all. But £34m for a kid who had one good season is equally mental.
The club has one of the best scouting networks on the planet and this was what they came up with?
Look at the Dutch national side at the WC. Half the attacking squad was under 25, they got to the semi finals. Just an example that there are loads of good players out there that wouldn't cost them 2.5 RVP's

I'm not saying he's a bad signing I'm saying he's a rip off. The market said he was worth £30m and for no reason besides their own desperation they paid double.
I just read a funny tweet that sums it up.
Ed Woodward was sent to the market to buy food and water, he came back with a Ferrari and Lambo.
That's how I feel.
Re: Man Utd
Stuckey if only you stopped to think before u open ur mouth
by begging i meant, man u were desperate for di Maria, so real had the upper hand and sold him at a premium.. Basic economics of supply v demand get it??? So 'market value' is in the eye of the beholder
was bale worth his transfer??
how much food and water do u think Woodward can trade for the lambo and ferrari?
di Maria is all class and fully worth it

Just look at Liverpool. How many players have cost them more then £30m? Its clear that good scouting not just throwing shit tons of cash at players can render your side a EPL title hopeful.
Re: Man Utd
As soon as united express intrest in a player every club hikes up the price because they know they are desperate. They took fergie for granted too long. Now they are playing catch up. Someone mentioned bayerns transfers, when your squad is so strong already you can buy from a position of power.
Mata was a mistake, no versatility in a team that already has Rvp and Rooney. And then there was fellaini.
And of course the oil clubs monopolize the best buys.
I don't think United had much choice.

Fair enough this is a result of last seasons crazy signings and if the club wants to get back up there ASAP they need to do this to a point.BruceLee wrote:As soon as united express intrest in a player every club hikes up the price because they know they are desperate. I just can't see the sustainability in it. One of the reasons I started supporting Man U was due to them not generally just going out and buying whoever was good at the time.
I feel LvG can get us back to that but it will take time, pain or lots of money in the mean time while the squad learns his system. I guess spending all this money may reduce the time and pain then and then we're likely to lose less supporters over it.
Like with AU when JG came in I'm willing to put up with poor results for a time if its due to the club working towards a goal. I guess most fans aren't.

This was the last 10 years of Fergie's rein. As I said generally, the club obviously did buy players that they immediately needed to fill some spots but generally they signed players that still needed work that then became important members of the squad.Black_Panther wrote:When was this??????Stuckey wrote:[Fair enough this is a result of last seasons crazy signings and if the club wants to get back up there ASAP they need to do this to a point.

IMO the only players out of all the signings the club made over the last 10 years that were at the top of their game and needed no further development were:
2012 FW Netherlands Robin van Persie
2012 MF Japan Shinji Kagawa
2011 MF England Ashley Young
2009 FW England Michael Owen
2008 FW Bulgaria Dimitar Berbatov
2007 MF England Owen Hargreaves
2006 MF England Michael Carrick
2005 GK Netherlands Edwin van der Sar
2006 DF France Patrice Evra
2004 FW England Wayne Rooney (given his price I included him but given he was 18 at the time is a big gamble)
2004 FW France Louis Saha
2004 FW England Alan Smith
2004 DF Argentina Gabriel Heinze
I'm not saying all these signing were good ones just these weren't project players they came straight in to fill a void. Many other signings still have to develop before they would be considered regular starters IMO.
Its just worrying that we've gone from 13 big signings in 10 years to 7 in 2.

btw it will take time, pain and lots of money to do so...
pain: just look where we are at the moment on the ladder and if we don't get top 4 more pain due to not playing champs league
time: it will take at least 3 months for LVG philosophy to start bearing fruit and players to begin gelling with his system, more than likely a year to see his capabilities
money: cos sir fergie left MUFC in the shits with an aging unbalanced squad that needs a major overhaul, hence the desperation (beggers) in needing to sign quality at short notice

also, unless you have lived under a rock (which is quite likely) you should know that LVG is HUGE on promoting youth, just look the success he had at Ajax 94-96 with a youthful ajax winning 3 championships and a champs league.. so it would be safe to say his 'desperate' purchases of today are a quick fix to get things in shape as quickly as possible and his views on promoting youth will be his philosophy of the future as was sir Alex
