Vanishing Spray in the new EPL season
Luddites, er conservative traditionalists, won't like it but EPL Referees will be using vanishing spray to mark out the 10-yard (9.15metre) distance that defensive walls cannot encroach into at free-kicks.
Authorities saw the benefit of using this spray at the 2014 World Cup and refs will be using it in the new 2014/2015 EPL season. The method of the ref marking where the ball is placed, then pacing out 10 yards, then spraying a line where defenders have to stand is quick & helps avoid the arguments & delays in getting defensive walls to comply. The spray disappears within 1-minute.
Hopefully this results in more goals scored from free-kicks in this new EPL season.
Together with the accuracy of Goal Line Technology, this is one more good improvement in the EPL.

I can't believe its taken this long to be used internationally. Its been round for ages in other countries. Its such a simple thing to implement. Just goes to show how slow change is in world football.

See reasons re encroachment above.God is an Englishman wrote:don't see why it's needed.
This aid has been deemed useful in the World Cup & now will also be used in the UEFA Champions League and the EPL.

The ref just stops the encroachment. Doesn't need spray to do that. Whole thing is pointlessCon M wrote:See reasons re encroachment above.God is an Englishman wrote:don't see why it's needed.

You seemed to have trouble with that in the game i saw you ref recentlyGod is an Englishman wrote:

If players can't abide by the rules of the game then measures have too be taken to make sure they do, and from the games i have seen it used in it seems it's 100% effective in keeping both ball and wall 10 yards apartGod is an Englishman wrote:Whole thing is pointless

The only time I had any issue was when there was a line all ready there so vanishing spray wouldn't have made any difference.

ref puts the ball down, refs ensures wall is 10 yrs, ref then ensures this stays the case. It's not rocket surgeryThe Wise Monkey wrote:God is an Englishman wrote:don't see why it's needed.

Re: Vanishing Spray in the new EPL season
All well and good until the ref takes his eye off the wall, and we all know what happens then, a temporary physical barrier laid down by the ref in front of the wall and around the ball does curb this encroachment, all the games i have watched i have never seen the ref issue any cards for encroachment after the line was drawnGod is an Englishman wrote:ref puts the ball down, refs ensures wall is 10 yrs, ref then ensures this stays the case.
