Which 'keeper will win the 2014 Golden Gloves award?

Post by Con M »

My selections in order are (1) Germany's Neuer, (2) USA's Howard (3) Costa Rica's Navas & (4) Mexico's Ochoa.

Certainly not Brazil's Julio Cesar after this morning's debacle.

Love the way Neuer has virtually been another centre-back, racing out of his area to clear through balls. Can also kick back-passes effectively with either foot and his reflex saves have been near faultless.

Also I think Neuer has got his over-all set-up right when defending corners. He's got a man behind him covering the far post while he covers the middle and can quickly get across to his near post if the ball goes there.

ps, Mers, I've sussed your set-up at corners at Metro out. pps Mers, over to you for an opinion on the best 'keeper at this 2014 World Cup for the Golden Gloves award.

Paul Merson, any opinion on Manuel Neuer winning this award & also how he sets up his team to defend corners?

Would agree that Neuer is the best keeper around atm - but if ONLY looking at the games in this tournament Navas first and Howard both had a greater influence on their teams progression and they both stood up brilliantly behind less protection than Neuer
