Re: Hodgson stay or go?
They may have lost but they played the best Football I've seen from an England side in Years - I think he just needs another four years to get more up and coming youngsters into the team and more experience for those already in.
Time is over for Rooney, Gerrard and most of the other "established" players.

Nothing against Roy, he's an honourable man, but he's an FA puppet, in thrall to the populist media and was the wrong choice in the first place. Given that we knew, going into this tournament, that we had no chance of winning it or even going close, why take Gerrard & Lampard, but leave behind Cole and Terry (the two best English defenders today)? Makes no sense, either plan for the future and play youth, or try to win today and take all the older guys. He did neither and lacks the cojones to tell the eff A to eff off if they try to interfere.
Time to retire.

Think it's a bit harsh to blame Hodgson. The team has played better than past tourneys IMO, but still need time to totally rejuvenate . They need stability and not chop and change coaches

Re: Hodgson stay or go?
Roy Hodgson and Gary Neville should definitely stay through to the 2016 Euros at least. He’s blooding the young players and shows signs of developing an exciting attacking playing style that they can relate to, even now it's better than Eriksson & Capello. From what I’ve read they have the full genuine support of the players, they like what he is developing and they are going to need the continuity. England were never in a million years going to win this comp, of course he could have picked a side to get through the group stage but then what. This was always a work in progress and yes we all would have done some things differently but looking at the intent and with the kids still to come through I am more than comfortable with England’s future prospects. The issues England have run deeper than any coach, change is needed but in FA structure and attitude not necessarily coaching personnel. Roy is an intelligent bloke, he is giving it a go let’s give him a chance.

Exactly what I was getting at - Hodgson is probably the only English coach admired by his European colleagues and deserves the opportunity to implement the changes necessary to make English Football respected once again.

I listened. To Stan Collymore last night on SBS he said the issues with junior coaching and junior development meant is dire in England. Despite all the submissions the only idea was to allow EPL clubs to play B teams in lower leagues. The FA is sadly controlled by the big EPL clubs who really don't have to worry about developing young English talent. The sad part is that every two years Jo Public get upset when England fail , then head home to watch their club side with every dwindling number of English players.

No way ,it's just that the success of the EPL has come at a price ( though not the only reason) of England's decline.Old Master wrote:ozzie owl wrote:N5 1BH wrote:Roy Hodgson and Gary Neville should definitely stay through to the 2016 Euros at least. But in the long run is it such a success if it does so at the cost of the country it operates to produce players.

Re: Hodgson stay or go?
This tourny he could have had Gerrard, Shearer, Terry, Ferdinand, Scholes in their primes at his disposal and Roy still would have played central mid duo against a trio, given Pirlo a cow paddock to operate in and found time to fire up an opposition striker saying he's not world class.
He's never been up to it, England never stood a chance.
He might do well with a smaller nation asking them to sit behind the ball like Iran vs Argentina but with a team that has the ability to play nice football, he's pants.

Fact is he should never have been given the job in the first place. All the English public wanted 'Arry but the over conservative FA picked the 'safe' option in Woy and have got what they deserve.

Re: Hodgson stay or go?
Shouldn't the FA appoint the best person for the job? What's Redknapp being the most representative of the population got to do with football?

dodgy and out of his depth.
Another one who was in a similar mould was Venables and he did alright - nice try Black Panther but I wouldn't start thinking about a Las Vegas residency until your material improves.

Redknapp was quite possibly the inspiration behind Mike Bassett.
Do you think he will name the players he has accused of shirking England duty? Or will he confirm his status as English footballs pre-eminent Bullshit Artist?

England only have 639 3G all-weather pitches compared to 5,000 in Germany
England have 6,000 qualified coaches compared to 35,000 in Germany
Re: Hodgson stay or go?
I think Spain's numbers are even better then that. Its so clear that they need to lift their game. The EPL clubs need to take more responsibility are this. I think if they spent less time paying players that are at other clubs (eg. Lukaku with Chelsea) they could put that into juniors and coaching education.ozzie owl wrote:England crashing out of the World Cup is not a surprise to our rivalsN5 1BH wrote:Roy Hodgson and Gary Neville should definitely stay through to the 2016 Euros at least.
