Re: Fanzone at Adel.Oval during the World Cup?
I reckon if its cold and raining you'll get bugger all to Adel Oval as well. At least if its at Vic Sq its super easy for people to get there. I'm not sure how many people would be keen to walk to AO at 2am as well. (quote Stuckey)Stuckey wrote:Con M wrote: Not the one against Netherlands on Thursday 19/6 at 1.30 am, not the one against Spain on Tuesday 24/6 at 1.30 am. Where did I say for the 2am games? Although 10,000 did go to A.O.on that cold winter's night in 2006 to watch a Socceroo World Cup game...

But Bacon, Toyota sponsor the Crows and they are regularly called the Camry Crows and that's on logos. And the other mob do have their training base at Arden St in the suburb of North Melbourne and are called North Melbourne.Bacon888 wrote:You trivialise it by saying stuff like "The Camry Crows" and "the suburb of North Melbourne"Con M wrote:Well hell, now I can't tell if adelaidebloke or Stuckey are just trivialising this topic or having some light fun. OK then, I'll call one lot the Adelaide Football Club and the other mob the Kangaroos.

Re: Fanzone at Adel.Oval during the World Cup?
Watched the Mariners versus Adel.United game (2nd half) down at my local Reservoir pub with former Adel.United CEO (S.C.) & his son last Sat 19/4.
Sadly, S.C. said the Adelaide (SACA/Crows) Oval World Cup Fanzone for 8.30 am Sat morn 14 June is not a goer. S.M.A. spokesobject "Kaylee" confirmed that. And surprisingly, same goes for an Adelaide City Council fanzone at that giant traffic island, a.k.a. Vic Square (Diamond).
"Anastasia", an A.C.C. spokesobject confirmed what S.C. said & buck-passed me to Rundle Mall authority spokesobject "Amanda" who didn't think the old so-called Mall 'super-screen' would be showing any games. "Amanda" also deflected, saying the so-called fade-out super-screen with dots at the City Cross/Mall corner is owned by a 3rd party, and she didn't know what they planned for 8.30 am Sat 14/6 (probably shopping ads).
When I said they won't have to worry about the 1.30 am Thursday 19/6 OZ v. Netherlands game, or the 1.30 am Tuesday 24/6 OZ v. Spain game because her Mall has the atmosphere of a morgue at that hour, just that Chile Sat morn game, I could sense "Amanda's" eyes glazing over so the telephone conversation just sort of drifted out...
So it's off to the Rosemont for that game versus Chile. Because I'm scared to go to the Casino - Hawkesy/GMAE might be there supporting Chile against the country he's currently residing and working in and his kids go to school in...
It's taken a while for things to penetrate my skull. But things have gotten through - the soccer-football community's apathy for a fanzone is palpable. Why, one community radio soccer-football program panellist even dismissed the idea with the comment "Nah, just watch the games at home and only have a fanzone if Italia make the semis or something...". A great pity because the game's profile would have made quite a splash had a fanzone exceeding that 10,000 we got in the past eventuated and lil' ol' Adelaide's fanzone been bigger than Melbourne's Federation Square & Sydney's Darling Harbour. And the many soccer-football fans who would never go to an AFL game at the SACA/Crows Oval won't have got a chance to see what the half-a-$billion+ fuss is all about.

Re: Fanzone at Adel.Oval during the World Cup?
Its a shame, although the whole atmosphere is so different now, to the 2006 World Cup. Then it was all fresh, we had a great team and they did really well, we also had a very high profile Manager. Now, we went through a drab qualifying campaign, have a very average team and a really hard draw. Expectations are low and thus far so is the hype. Hopefully we can get something out of the Chile game and build from there - 2 huge games against two of the best nations at the World Cup.

Not panicking GMAE, but from memory you live somewhere near Shipsters Street, the border between Burnside Council and Norwood, Payneham & St Peters Council. On the 11th of April you said you the Casino main hall will have the game on, or you will be at your local pub. If your local pub is The Marryatville, The Kensington, the Robin Hood or the Bath I wouldn't bother going there - those pubs are usually reluctant to put any soccer-football on.God is an Englishman wrote:don't panic I won't be at either venue, I'll be closer to my house supporting chile.Con M wrote: So it's off to the Rosemont for that game versus Chile. I was in one of those pubs on Saturday night and the football was on, I was in another one on sunday night and again the football was on. One of those pubs is intending to show every Australia game they are legally allowed to open for and a lot of the others as well.Con M wrote:Not panicking GMAE, but from memory you live somewhere near Shipsters Street, the border between Burnside Council and Norwood, Payneham & St Peters Council. I will be supporting chile as I don't give a shit about either team so I will support the team with the least support.

I was at the Robin Hood a few weeks ago for a game and they were most friendly and accommodating for myself and a couple of mates to watch the game.

As I said the staff there were most friendly and accommodating.
Maybe Con M just isn't able to communicate effectively with people and as such isn't able to get looked after when he is at such venues.

Nah Blacky, I always ask politely, and in English too - not Greek. Must admit the Bath did switch it over late one Saturday night to the soccer-football when we had a nice gourmet pizza there.Black_Panther wrote:Liverpool v Man City.God is an Englishman wrote:Which game? But have found the others have to be grovelled to..They explain they have to cater for the majority who are only interested in aussie rules or the cricket, and I politely explain they have more than one screen. The barsheilas never seem to know what Fox stations have soccer-football on & have on occasions actually handed us the remote to do the switching.
The Marryatville doesn't even have FoxTV & you had to convince them free-to-air SBS had any away Adelaide United games direct on a Friday night...

Con, have you been in contact with Splash Adelaide? They organise street closures for food festivals etc. all the time.

I was there, I assume you were with the group out in the beer garden.
NEVER had an issue watching football in there, in fact they even advertise that they will show every A League match.

Vic is exactly perfect for this purpose IMO. Is just as per usual with out football community. We are never united so organisations like the council have no idea that many people are interested because we never have a common voice on anything.adelaidebloke wrote:tell me vic square purpose again lol
