Modbury Jets v Para Hills East "Rebecca Lawrence Shield"
This Saturday 22nd of March Modbury Jets & Para Hills East will have our annual “Rebecca Lawrence Shield” pre-season Soccer match at Modbury Jets Ground: Cnr. Ladywood Rd & Milne Rd, Modbury North
Games will be played between the three grades A's, B's & C's starting from 11.00am.
This is a special event that we hold to honour the memory of Rebecca, a much loved person who had close affiliations with both clubs.
For those who didnt know Rebecca, she sadly passed away after suffering a heart attack in 2008. To commemorate her memory both Modbury Jets & Para Hills East compete in this annual event held in her honor.
In addition to the football we use this event to raise money for the Heart Foundation. All profits on the day are donated directly to this very worthy cause.
Everybody is welcome to come along and support this charity day, whilst being entertained by two great local rivals.
Food: Charcoal BBQ by Alberto's Charcoal Catering who specialise in on-site charcoal barbecuing, using secret marinades and spices to give the meat a delicious distinct 'Alberto's' taste. They use only the finest cuts of meat cooked over the unmistakable flavour of charcoal.
Drinks: Full bar facilities are available with plenty of range.
Fundraising: There will be raffles and other events to help raise money for the Heart Foundation.
Kick off times:
11.00am C team
1.00pm Reserves
3.00pm First Team

Will the captain be able to kit up after being butchered by the ex club captain, chairman and coach. Nice work 'tickets'. You did what so many have dreamed of.

I invite you to come along to the original and therefore the best tomorrow afternoon cowabunga. Good football free of charge, cheap beer and unbeatable food, and for a good cause. Probably a bigger crowd than down the road too...

As you are a long time person, what was the scenario of the now-defunct Eastside Jets?Blueblood wrote:Oh you've not heard of us?cowabunga wrote:There's only one Modbury Jets, and they play in FFSA.

Weren't they an amalgamation between 2 clubs that died when they folded?
I don't believe in the phrase 'history stealing' but there is a playing member of your club that feels most strongly about it.

Did you know man u used to be called newton heath and liverpool used to be called Everton Athletic? - now if you wish this to carry on, please start a new thread so as to not take away from a great charity event held by both clubs.Black_Panther wrote:As you are a long time person, what was the scenario of the now-defunct Eastside Jets?Blueblood wrote:Oh you've not heard of us?cowabunga wrote:There's only one Modbury Jets, and they play in FFSA.

I think it's a great initiative that Modbury and Para Hills East have carried out for more than a few years now (if I'm not mistaken).God is an Englishman wrote:Did you know man u used to be called newton heath and liverpool used to be called Everton Athletic? - now if you wish this to carry on, please start a new thread so as to not take away from a great charity event held by both clubs.Black_Panther wrote:As you are a long time person, what was the scenario of the now-defunct Eastside Jets?Blueblood wrote: Oh you've not heard of us?

I know how you feel about clubs taking on the history of other clubs (especially West Adelaide) and didn't want you to get upset if you're club had done something similar (in this instance the merger with the eastside jets who folded) or open you up for ridicule as a hyporcrite of some sort.
Blueblood is probably the best person to ask this given I think he has had a long association with your club.

Re: Modbury Jets v Para Hills East "Rebecca Lawrence Shield"
This happened in 2000 and yes I was at the club, and although I see where you are coming from, I don't feel comfortable lining my club up to be the subject of a point scoring match between two individuals on the internet, especially on a thread which doesn't deserve to be taken off topic by trolls and fishermen.Black_Panther wrote:

Thank you to everybody who came along to Ladywood on Saturday, as always it was well supported by both clubs and all 3 games were very entertaining and a decent sum was raised for the Heart Foundation in Rebecca's memory.
&well done to Modbury finally getting their name on the shield!
