PASC wrote:Surely if u finish bottom 2 u go down ... and if teams bail out then its gets topped up from lower div... that was drummed into us previous couple years as we asked to stay in div 3 after strikers folded but we were told that rules strongly stipulate that 2 teams must go down... why the fk has this changed all of a sudden...?? why doesnt AYS drop? and why doesnt anither div 4 club get promoted??
Yep, seems silly to change the rules now. Bad idea.

We at Flinders have been caught out by the Saasl "tweaking" on a few occasions and again this year are affected. Our Div 4 side having finished third, are currently remaning in Div 4. Whilst Hahndorf who finished second bottom of Div 3 remain there, because of Hazara pulling out.

This despite the quite clearly stated competion rules which stae the following:

4. PROMOTION AND RELEGATION

(a) The two top teams of lower divisions shall be promoted to the next higher division
each year.
(b) The two bottom teams of the higher division shall be relegated to the next lower
division each year.

(c) When vacancies occur in higher divisions through the resignation or disbandment of
teams, or any other cause, the vacancies shall be filled by the teams next in line for
promotion from the next lower division.

(d) When the interest of the League is best served, the Management Committee shall
have the power to adjust the numerical composition of teams in the two lowest
divisions.

And more tellingly there is this:

38. AMEDMETS TO RULES

These rules may be altered, amended or otherwise changed only by the League and provided
that such alterations, amendments or other changes are made an approved by the
Management Committee not later than 30 days prior to the commencement of the
championship season to which they relate.

I guess a Club having several 'A' sides can cause some issues in the area of promotions.

Looking at the situation, it is not disimilar to the Bosna situation a few years back where you ended up with only 9 teams competing....in the end 1 team from Division 2 (plus Bosna who were suspended) were relegated and 2 came up from Division 3.
Effectively Hahndorf finished 8th. in what began as a 10 team Division....I'd be a bit upset if it were my team and they were relegated from 8th spot because a team in the division was kicked out or suspended.

Whilst I agrre with you and would certainly not be happy if the boot/s were on the other foot. Why put in place competition rules if you then never follow them. :?:
As with the Bosna situation clubs should know one way or another how many sides will be relagated. at what point of the season did it change from being as it is listed in the rules to the option now(and in the Bosna situation) implemented??

If a team drops out or is kicked out (seemingly all to often these days) with one week of the season to run and three teams stuggling at the bottom of the table, at which point are two of them safe??

Handorf would have started the season believing if they finished 8th. they would be safe from relegation.
The rules state the "bottom 2" teams will be relegated....the interpretation arises as to whether positions 10 & 9 are the bottom 2 teams, or if it is 9 + Hazara . If Hazara are unable to compete it should leave 3 positions available to be filled in Division 4
