Promotions and Relegations

Post by gunners14 »

What happens with promotions and relegations for the 2014 season?

Teams like Olympic smashing reserve sides, Cumberland finishing bottom of the premier league?

What happens next?

as with all developing systems/leagues need time to improve and stabilize ( A- league), promotion/relegation can hurt new leagues initially. lets get the league at a higher standard and then look from there, dropping Cumberland out or more and replacing with clubs who are not probably geared up for this or perhaps don't want to progress just yet, it causes high player movement and can hurt 1 year of development. Cumberland have gone through a change and knights too so both will have some type of improvement and should be a better standard than last year tightening the league and enabling teams to play better = better competition

PS - Olympic didn't smash every team :) they may be able to generate a prems team?

PHU definitely deserve to come up!
They have won the div 1 league which is the requirement for promotion.
It would be unfair if they didn't and a bad example by FFSA to us other teams who have intentions to get higher too. Although Cumberland finished bottom they showed improvement and have been in Prems for years so probably deserve to stay. I read PHK r changing coach in Prem so they might appreciate a season or 2 of consolidation in Div 1.
Best solution seems to bring PHU & Olympic up.
Make for great northern derbys with PHK vs PHU vs Metro

I dont believe that winning Div 1 means automatic promotion into Prems? is that actually written somewhere?

I agree with playthewhistle. The difference in level is large.

Semi Final - Adel City 2 v PHK 0 2013
Semi Final - Adel Uni 10 v PHU 0 2012

????? thats pointless games results to post
Uni won the Cup in 2012, City didn't in 2013...
5 28/04/13 (Sun) 15:00 Adel University 10 Cumberland United 1
.....so what
The topic is about promotion and relegation.
Of course there is a big difference in levels but the point is PHU deserve a chance to compete in the Premier League.
With all these new FFSA squads taking players out of Prem its probably the best time ever for teams to come.
Don't understand why you want to be so negative about a team achieving success at a lower level and then deserving a chance to play higher

They were offered that opportunity at the start of last season and chose to remain in Div 1...So why don't you ask the club themselves nstead of everyone else?

PHU were never offered that opportunity to play prems at the start of last season. They were division 2 last season & division 4 the previous year. You can't jump from division 4 straight into prems can you, you need to earn your spot in the premier league just like every other team.

As attached from the FFSA 2013 Operating womens guidelines finishing top of Div1 does not qualify for promotion into the Prem league. And rightly so in my opinion.

Would be good to see PHU in prems.

They have worked there way up the league's.

They played some good soccer last yr and deserved to win the league.

PHU div 1's are certainly capable but you don't just move a team into prems, you move a club. Their div 3 squad would struggle playing any higher. Anyone know where the U/17's finished up or how they might cope with senior soccer?
I thought FFSA were going to put in place strict requirements that clubs had to meet to be considered for elevation to the premier league?

I have been told that FFSA will not invite PHU into the elite divisions due to their close location to PHK.
The goalkeeper is the jewel in the crown and getting at him should be almost impossible. It's the biggest sin in football to make him do any work.

Agree 100% - if they have done the hard work to build up teams and be more than competitive then that shouldn't matter.
Cumberland & Knights as the lowest finishing teams should welcome in a few more teams to help the league.
Keeping PHU out because of location just makes Knights a 'protected species' which is totally unfair.
Seems to me and I have no allegiance with United at all but offering premier league places to Olympic and United can only be good for the League at this stage in its development. If those 2 clubs don't wish to take up then their choice.
As I posted before the rivalry out North would be great for the competition.

PHU have a complete junior structure and would be a good example in the prem league. They have done the work and developed a junior base.

If there was promotion and relegation then CUMBY and PHK would make way for PHU and Inter. But the hand will be dealt by FFSA.

A question - Salisbury Inter has been knocking on the door for a while, so if they get a junior team will they be able to enter the prems. Might move 15 of my girls over there so they can get promoted too.

I say bottom two out top two in, It is about promoting the stronger teams in FFSA based on results like any other prem league in the world. Not who is at what club.

On a final note the Prem League should be at least 10 teams and play each other 4 times, 36 games + 4 cup rounds + Mid weeks games to get our top level to that of other nations. So if this was case no relegation and just promotion this year. the league can handle two teams up and re align all other leagues to 10 teams.

bit of food for thought

36 rounds plus 4 cup games...midweek games (where, because not every ground has lighting that meet min lux requirements)...not even the clubs in the Womens UCL play that frequently!

Possibly not however FFSA have final say if clubs nominate for inclusion in the elite division and they may use proximity as a deciding factor amonst other things like could the club sustain teams in the elite divison in the long term as well as meeting the requirements.

Salisbury Inter would not have the space at their current grounds to field junior teams.

As great as it would be to have a team further north providing girls teams, Inter just don't have the facilities to cope.

Thought I would do some research and was interesting to read in football NSW there is recommendations for the women's leagues for 2014. I found it interesting introducing ECL (Elite Club Licencing), Maybe this is a way to screen the premiere league and allow clubs to know if they can be promoted or not and then it can be public knowledge which clubs have - teams, youth development, coaches, governance, finance, facilities, Organisational structure, membership protection, medical and reporting. (directly quoted from the report). This would be a way for a club to get accreditation to be in the premiere league and for those who are not there have a clear guide line on getting a licence.

I also found this interesting reading -
"Also Recommendation 8: Explore the ability to introduce a modified version of the Player Points System for the Women’s game which seeks to;
• Incentivise older and experienced players to remain in the top competition.
• Discouraging switching within the club environment.
• Encouraging homegrown players.
• Establishing a limit of national team and W-League players in one squad.
• Encouraging rising stars.
•Discouraging groups of players from moving to one club."

unsure myself of the nsw womens league and structure but currently researching all around Australia to see how different we are. Looks very interesting the proposed changes and recommendation and will be interesting if FFSA is watching.

on a final note an elite club licence would be an awesome introduction for the clubs as it will give a direction for clubs that strive to develop the women's games. make it simple for promotion and relegation. Maybe one day only ECL clubs will play as prem's, reserves and a state league. With community totally separate like the men's competition. If a club is set a list of requirments they will strive to make it happen, 3 years to introduce is plenty time with the fantastic dedicated volunteers we have in our league. Biggest benefit will be consistency.

LWB I like your research and enthusiasm, but even if clubs were given 3 years to get their act into shape, why have so many in the last 3-4 years dropped out of the PL and into the social divisions? Surely this is a precedent that many clubs don't have the infrastructure in place to establish themselves as an 'elite' club just yet.

Absolutely spot on.

I look at things in life as if you set the goal post higher then you will get there. I was taught set your goals higher than you believe you can achieve and maybe you just may surprise yourself. This is just me, but I believe if we just keep accepting the band aid it and she'll be right attitude it will always be as it has and will continue to be that way. I really hope it is not the same in 5 years that it has actually grown to a stronger more competitive promotion/relegation league. we will see.

Not really just Adelaide Olympic returning to there roots as they were originally called and linked with West Adelaide, then changed name to Adelaide Olympic when West Adelaide Changed their name to AO, now again returning to there original name.

A joint collaboration where the Olympic women's club had done the hard yards to re establish themselves. The club will have access as a dedicated west tce facility that has been split into two pitches for the club. The junior girls will be utilising B27 and west tce . This has come about because next year (and possibly the year after) the senior men's will be playing at Adelaide shores leaving the women's team to utilise Kingston gardens.

It also now means that our women's arm of the club can draw upon the female siblings of the 300 odd boys playing at the club which is a huge resource to draw upon

In addition , once the 5000 residents move into the Bowden urban village opposite the b27 site we would expect to draw upon that resource as well.

The club will also in the next 3 years, develop the old kilburn primary school (28,000 m2 ) area whilst at the same time retaining b27 and west tce. Once this is done the Kingston gardens site will be solely a dedicated women's football facility in the middle of the CBd with the full suport of the Adelaide city council who are fully supportive through the west and south parklands master plan for sporting hubs.

Great outcome for women's football in this state
