Aldinga on the radar
A NEW soccer club in Aldinga will make history next season when it joins the South Australian Amateur Soccer League.
A soccer club has not represented the suburb for more than 25 years, but a group of locals is getting the club off the ground.
Aldinga Soccer Club vice president Darren Rathband said four soccer enthusiasts from the area had the idea to start a club so they could play closer to home and get involved in the southern soccer league.
He said although the club only had two teams so far, it hoped to have all grades, including juniors and women's sides, in the future.
"We wanted to be able to get two teams in the division four Sunday competition of the 2014 season and build the club from there," Mr Rathband told the Southern Times Messenger.
"So far, 18 people have shown interest in playing which is fantastic.
"Our ambition is to give the local area the opportunity to play soccer."
The club has been able to attract local business Southern Suburbs Pest Control as a major sponsor and is looking for more sponsors.
"We hope we can get more people behind it and make it a really great local club to be associated with," Mr Rathband said.
The club's future was bright if the community supported it in the long term, he said.
"We want to get established and climb the league and be known as a team to be reckoned with," he said.
"You make your own history … and we think we can do that with a community like Aldinga."
The club will share the Aldinga Football Club's oval until it has found a permanent home.
A training session will be held for interested players at the oval on Port Rd, Aldinga, on Friday, October 11, at 7pm.

He wouldn't answer anyway.
Apparently, below 4500 ft at Aldinga it is uncontrolled airspace

Re: Aldinga on the radar
I had heard it was a decent turnout with a few good, a few average players. Nothing out of the ordinary for an amateur team and a positive sign for one just starting.
Be interesting how you go this week though. Adelaide United playing and what appears to be a friday night beep test to check peoples fitness on the horizon!
Are you signing up there next year Hatchet?

Re: Aldinga on the radar
I have discussed this with Dave at length and whatever I decide, I have his blessing to do so. I've got some great mates at Seaford and nothing will change there. This decision was not made lightly I can assure you. Its a practical decision and I look forward to mixing it up on the park against my mates at Seaford next season then having a beer and a chat after the game. I'll still get to games on Saturday's to cheer on Ben's team.THE ORAKLE wrote:shame cos i know you were one dave wanted to keep. incidently seafords fed senior coach lives in aldinga so thank goodness he doesent think like you. anyway hatchet all the best whatever you eventualy decide to do cheers.Hatchet Squad wrote:with the probability that I'll be living there, I'd say yes.
