He would be having the wobbles right about now. Absolutely farcical situation though. I am more than happy for the AFL to re-introduce a free for all where the strong get stronger and the weak get weaker... but the current situation only benefits the top teams, while everyone else is stuck playing catch-up.Bomber wrote:Maguire's going to have a heart attack!Rookie wrote:Buddy off to the Sydney Swans ,

From a player's point of view I think you should be able to play for the club of your choice, if they want you.

If it were free for all, teams like GWS, GCS, St Kilda, Nth Melbourne, W Bulldogs, Melbourne, Port and Brisbane would be gone in no time.LFTWNG11 wrote:He would be having the wobbles right about now. Kernaham complaining that all Carlton ever wants is to play in an 'even/equal' competition..........
he obviously forgot how he got to the blues...along with Bradley and Motley...not to mention John Elliot and brown paper bags...

Which club was the last to be punished for breaching the salary cap with payments outside of cap (i.e. brown paper bags)? Stones. Glasshouses. And all that.MegaBonus wrote:Kernaham complaining that all Carlton ever wants is to play in an 'even/equal' competition..........

Carlton have been a pillar of the AFL community since our un-unprecedented (and deserved) punishment 12 years ago. That's probably why we are stuck mid-table with all the other model citizens.

In 2012, there were two clubs to be fined for breaches to the salary cap regulations.LFTWNG11 wrote:Which club was the last to be punished for breaching the salary cap with payments outside of cap (i.e. brown paper bags)? Adelaide & Collingwood.
Adelaide's unauthorised payment was for $170K.
Carlton's was for $1.37million
10 times the money. Same draft sanctions.
Where's the equality?

Re: AFL Season 2013 thread
Talk about the land of the giants at the smallish SCG ground in 2014!
Tippett 203cm, Franklin 196, Reid 196, Pyke 201, Goodes 194, Rohan 188.
If they can find some more talls in overseas recruits from Ireland & Yankee land and teach them to kick, the Swans will be unbeatable - just boot it long up into the 50-metre & goal square (rectangle) area.
Maybe then as more and more clubs put out the "do-not-apply" sign to athlete/recruits under 188cm, Lord Demetriou's AFL law-making mob might have to introduce a form of offside so these behemoths can't just hang around the goal square (rectangle) marking everything.

In 2012, Adelaide were fined $300,000 and barred from the first two rounds and from taking any father-son selections in the 2013 National Draft
Not to mention our fine was 4 times that of the Crows by accounting for inflation.Carlton was also stripped of several early draft picks in the 2002 and 2003 AFL Drafts, specifically:
Draft picks No. 1, 2, 31 and 34 from the 2002 National Draft
All draft picks in the 2003 Preseason Draft
Its first and second round draft picks in the 2003 National Draft
Where did you get your figures for how much Carlton paid over the cap? Seems like you pulled them from thin air... but I would agree we paid more over the cap. It's all semantics anyway... Adelaide got pinged for a major breach of the salary cap... so MegaBoner trying to cast over the current Carlton administration is quite hypocritical considering Steve Trigg is welcomed back with open arms, while John Elliot had his stand torn down.

????????so MegaBoner trying to cast over the current Carlton administration is quite hypocritical considering Steve Trigg is welcomed back with open arms, while John Elliot had his stand torn down.
the fact im a crows supporter is irrelevant. My clubs CEO is not grandstanding in an arrogant manner trying to take the high moral ground...that's the difference....
"There is a case now for all allowances to be scrapped as part of the new equalisation debate," said Trigg.
"We're supporting that review."

Re: AFL Season 2013 thread
Kernahan has said he wants a even/fair competition, which has been echoed by basically every administrator since the Franklin story broke... and yet you are picking on him for "arrogant grandstanding" because Carlton were done for salary cap breaches 12 years ago.MegaBonus wrote:????????so MegaBoner trying to cast over the current Carlton administration is quite hypocritical considering Steve Trigg is welcomed back with open arms, while John Elliot had his stand torn down.

FYI, Kernahan has never presided over a salary cap rort, like say Steve Trigg, so who is the one grandstanding with the comments you quoted above?

lost nothing....you made it about the crows.
I simply pointed out that Carlton have a LONG history of cheating yet have no problems complaining about an uneven playing field.
BTW...what argument was lost???

All club officials have been answering questions on this matter... some maybe involved with a club who has cheated in the past, some may have even been responsible for cheating themselves. I don't see anything arrogant about what Kernahan and Malthouse have said.

With nearly 25 squad players over 188 cms in a clear policy of going for tall athletes, the Swans missed out in recruiting 203 cm US College basketballer Jason Holmes when St Kilda snapped him up.Con M wrote:Talk about the land of the giants at the smallish SCG ground in 2014!

Re: AFL Season 2013 thread
Port have signed 20 year old Irishman Daniel Flynn on a two year contract as it's first international rookie. A very exciting prospect athletically at 191cm, 91kg's, tested 4th fastest over 20m, 2nd most agile and 3rd in repeat 30m sprints, in what looks to be the fastest draft class on record.
Had a lot of clubs going after him after he displayed a great skillset in the combine, said he preferred Adelaide being more laid back and liked what he saw on a tour around Alberton last weekend where he spoke to Ken, Richo, Burgo and Chad. Ken and Richo fly with him to Ireland next week to meet his family. If he can wrap his head around the decision-making facet of the game he can be every bit as valuable as Hanley or Tuohy are to their clubs. Very excited to watch him develop.
Port's priorities this offseason are recruiting:
A key forward to take the heat off Schulz and allow Westhoff to play an around the ground role (Cameron McCarthy/Mitch Thorp through draft)
A quick line-breaking midfielder (Jared Polec through trade/Matt White through FA)

Re: AFL Season 2013 thread
Seems others saw it like I did...nothing semantic about it.....Others have argued, bitterly, against the Sydney clubs' exploitation of the cost-of-living allowance, calling it antiquated and a rort.
Leading the outcry was Carlton, which was amusing. The Blues wrote the book on manipulation; the Swans merely digitalised it.

i.e. all clubs are not happy with the deal. Apparently only Steve Trigg is allowed to whinge about it.But equitable funding and the cost-of-living allowance are perennial sore points for AFL clubs

Discuss the issue. How can defensive assistant coaches set up to counter Pyke, Goodes, Tippett, Reid & Franklin hanging around the goal-front on the smaller SCG? Is some form of offside in the future a possibility?

Happy with Matt White....seems like a promising pick up. Richmond's most improved player this year and I'm sure Hinkley will take him one step further
Betts is a good pick up for Adelaide but his 500k per season price tag seems a bit over the top, not worth that much

Of course he's worth it....on 2 levels...
1 - he's worth 50 goals a year
Plus....and more pertinent to our circumstances
2 - he didn't cost us a trade nor a draft pick

maybe Sando can encourage chapman to play a season or 2...buys us some time....however I can see carlton make a play for him as a replacement for Betts

Sport is based alot on a player's natural physical body. Whereas for normal jobs its based on other skillsets like intelligence. Its just the way it is.
