Re: New Junior Structure 2014
I spoke with another parent at my daughters soccer friday night and explained whats happening, he has an Aussie rules back ground and was shocked it wasnt run like that anyway, as thats how they run.
I wonder if they have an issue with kids bailing their club if the seniors get relegated?

Re: New Junior Structure 2014
theoretically, we are the equivalent to the SANFL and i believe they're are zoned to determine which club they're eligible for, so how does the new structure relate to this? I would happily play in zones like the u12 set up, though im not sure clubs like Metro etc would be happy about only trying to recruit players from 1-2 different postcode regions.paul merson wrote:I spoke with another parent at my daughters soccer friday night and explained whats happening, he has an Aussie rules back ground and was shocked it wasnt run like that anyway, as thats how they run.

I think it may be a good idea to have a look at the current divisions and see how little these travel extremes currently occur. Check it out. The new proposal makes every single SL junior team travel massively and the PL teams very little. Now is that fair is it? A central SL team travels to Pirie, Noarlunga, Seaford, Cove, Playford, Gawler and the PL teams virtually don't get out of the city. No one has explained how it is fine to have the SL juniors playing all over the place but the PL juniors immune to this imposition. If the FFSA try and adopt this without a proper debate and vote, the SL clubs would be mad if they don't seek independent arbitration through Dept of Rec and Sport. I think they would have grounds for discrimination.
It is so blatantly unfair. It should be thrown out.

He was actually refering to the amatuer league, as SANFL dont have relegation, so no the amatuer league dont have zonal recruitment.matty2323 wrote:theoretically, we are the equivalent to the SANFL and i believe they're are zoned to determine which club they're eligible for, so how does the new structure relate to this? What an odd line of reasoning to be pushing! What if Souths get up this year and Playford next year? Could easily happen and suddenly PL teams are forced to go to either ends of the metro area.mrrombold wrote:Željko Jurin wrote:So if there is A,B,C with relegation/promotion, travelling time is ok then ?

Oh, and by the way, don't use Pirie as a worst case scenario, they only had one junior team in FFSA this year...which does beg the question how they can stay in the league but that's a topic for a different thread.
Re: New Junior Structure 2014
well after reading everything here . These are my views
Im all for the proposed changes . I can understand some clubs/coaches worried they might lose players to PL clubs but regardless on the system supplied from the FFSA . This will happen regardless
For the parents that have 2 or more children involved at a club will benefit as they will be able to watch all their children play at the same ground. This in turn could create more volunteers for your club ( which we all need) in which will create a better club culture.
Better club culture will increase the chances of junior players and parents returning the year after
For clubs that say we will lose players??? didn't most clubs say they turned away player this year ?? isn't that what the JSL is for if clubs want to have teams there
Lets look at the big picture and not just your backyard...
The game will grow . we need to put the processes in place through the juniors in which the end result will be the % of players in the first team will be from the junior system of that .
The clubs that do that the best now will benefit in 5-10 years ...

There is only one reason the FFSA is wishing to implement this new structure, and that is to create an elite National Premier League Senior and Junior competition. The State League is there to act as feeder clubs to the premier league.
Anyone that considers the State League clubs will benefit from such a move is either naive, an idealist or just plain foolish.

All clubs have the same chances to be in the PL and stay in the PL, you can't blame one club because they generate revenue vs another club that may not. Show your parents their faith will be rewarded with PL football, that means progress every year, if that means you have to bring in players with good wages and can't afford that, find a way to generate the cash so you can afford that.
Eventually your club will also be that 'PL' club that all these players will be running too and eventually you will be a solid club and only travel 20mins to games.
all these clubs you complain about going to, think about them, if they make the PL they will do it every other week also did you think of that?
As for Pirie just boot them out no one wants to go there, they should be made to travel every week. sorry but it's true.

If it's OK for the State League teams to go all ends of the city then it should be OK for the PL clubs. Why not? Or division Juniors based on geography and eliminate the excessive travel. An elitist agenda it seems is at play here.

Agree. Seems everything is being done to make it as hard as possible for 2nd div clubs. Possibly hoping some clubs will fold. The travel alone will see parents attempt to move their kids to a 1st div club, or worse, discourage them from playing. Federation soccer becomes a very unattractive option for parents. The travel impositions on families is huge especially if you have a few kids all doing different things. Not an issue for the 1st division clubs but the powers that be must be nuts if they this is good. Soccer is a numbers game also and the more athletes you have playing the sport rather than AFL or others, the more quality players you may uncover. AFL junior comps are largely divisions by location. Thats what we are competing against in getting numbers to our sport.

Re: New Junior Structure 2014
the SANFL has zoned areas linked to the amatures and country leagues e.g. so when juniors at salisbury they hit 14/15 yrs if they are in the correct zone they go direct to the SANFL allocated (port magpies) if they are outside the zone a fee is payable by the club who wants that player to the other SANFL club (centrals), they can play juniors with centrals development squads as there is no restiction until age then they have to shift if centrals won't pay the transfer port want and some have been in the thousands of $ the player goes to port.paul merson wrote:He was actually refering to the amatuer league, as SANFL dont have relegation, so no the amatuer league dont have zonal recruitment.matty2323 wrote:theoretically, we are the equivalent to the SANFL and i believe they're are zoned to determine which club they're eligible for, so how does the new structure relate to this? they do have restictions on player movements per year and from what levels you are moving from metro/country with the player points system.
most juniors are tied to postcodes and it works fairly well but there is still the cheats who use another family members address to get around it.
Re: New Junior Structure 2014
Spoke to the 18s coach yesterday, who has NOT approached anyone anywhere as he is more then happy with our current 16s who are sitting top, and the 4-5 players who will still be age appropriate.
He has been approached by a SL player, and asked if he is remaining as 18s coach[/quote]
ok appologies seems the player pumping his club options and raising his stakes as not the way he said it too several people and I'm sure he and many others will be at your trials when the new system comes in.

North eastern Junior Football League cover the SAAFL in that area, there are other junior footy district comps around adelaide that cover their areas. How can Elizabeth Footy juniors play the same teams as their seniors when they play against clubs whose juniors are'nt in the same comp. Some senior SAAFL clubs dont have juniorspaul merson wrote:I spoke with another parent at my daughters soccer friday night and explained whats happening, he has an Aussie rules back ground and was shocked it wasnt run like that anyway, as thats how they run.

They don't. They juniors play a localised comp with all junior teams playing the same opposition on a week by week basis. Saturday the seniors play a fixture against one club, Sunday the juniors play a fixture against one club. The Saturday opposition does not have to be the same as Sundays, but if the the opposition was the consistent on any given day then we achieve better club culture, less travel, access to FFSA affiliated football to a wider catchment by making it easier to participate, more revenue for clubs and the FFSA via higher participation. Maybe the increased revenue could go toward the FFSA bringing improved coaching to the clubs via clinics by their development coaches rather than attract the junior players to the big clubs for this. More participants and higher coaching standards for all, could that be a recipe for lifting the standards in the years to come??? I wonder where soccer would be in this country if of our elite AFL players were attracted to soccer as kids instead. Buckley, McCleod, Platten, Hird, hard to so players like that nor being champs at any sport they chose. Coaching standards and a numbers game, thats what we are involved with.
But this is all about politics and giving elite clubs all of it on a plate. Very narrow minded and selfish policy.

Re: New Junior Structure 2014
Seniors do not drive a club....Juniors do and thus should not be linked as the FFSA is proposing.
A club should be judged on how they are developing their juniors in the way of coaching they offer, Starclub status etc...Not how much they spent to get their seniors in the position they are....
I would love to see clubs graded on their junior systems and play in competitions accordingly....What their Seniors do should be a last resort....Means bugger all in the scheme of things.

Food for thought. Agree that juniors drive the club, by and large provide revenue via fees, canteen, bar to pay the seniors. Often these seniors just play and don't give back to the clubs. Some clubs link wages to certain club tasks the seniors do ie assisting periodically with junior coaching. Well done to those clubs as a way of assimilating both areas of the club. Unfortunately the Norm is that juniors are only there to provide revenue and labour. The club my kids play at, the junior fee take is very close to the senior wage bill. Basically if the seniors did not get paid the juniors could pay almost nothing to play. We have heard from many on other threads that juniors don't fund seniors via fees. What a load of hot cock. Measuring club performance on other criteria other than how much money they can toss around to buy success is one of the most intelligent things said on this thread.

Re: New Junior Structure 2014
We're very lucky, some may say privileged, to have so many choices and options.
If a junior club does not want to be aligned with a senior structure, the members have that right.
Just like the football governing body has the responsibility to make decisions for their members.
If a player has an ambition to play at the highest level, they deserve to have the options available to them to be able to try and achieve that goal.
Just like the players that just want the social aspect of the game - they deserve to have the options to play at a well structured club.
Players can play at any level they want, clubs can choose and aim for the level that their members want.
This new system is about building the game and the clubs. The present way is not working. If we want to build a serious professional state (SA) league, clubs must remember that - without Juniors there is no Seniors, without Seniors there is no Juniors. Too often each side forgets about the other.

Re: New Junior Structure 2014
To all the wingers and complainers look at the positives as there would be some ..
The new structure should create an environment where the juniors have an interest in where there seniors are at .. so get out and support your club
How many of you guys go and support your seniors how many of your kids know the names of the senior players?? .. am assuming probably very few ..!! .. stop living in a microcosm of a particular junior team because it may at this particular point of time be the ants pants
Hopefully your clubs will be proactive and make the junior home games a unifying event and also a good revenue raiser..
A Playford team (assume U12s) has been alluded to in this discussion and maybe well coached and an ok team in its zone league but where are most of Playfords your other junior teams at??
I get the impression the coach of this team thinks they will be too good for other Junior State league opposition .. maybe .. maybe not .. if all teams truly play to the national curriculum style then a lot should balance out .. a lot of the SL clubs will have players pushing up as more juniors push into the senior sides due to some of the SL clubs not being as financial as some of the PL clubs perhaps .. as a result these few gun SL junior teams may not be so gun as a result and face relegation under the current system anyway..
Develop your kids support your club and clubs like Playford etc will probably be in the PL sooner rather than later and PL clubs will be down to the SL ... that’s natural attrition and am sure all will balance out.

Develop your kids support your club and clubs like Playford etc will probably be in the PL sooner rather than later and PL clubs will be down to the SL ... that’s natural attrition and am sure all will balance out.

Re: New Junior Structure 2014
Have heard that the present system is not working. Not really been explained why, just a statement. It could well be better than the new proposal where a series of statements have been made to support the argument but then no research has been presented to back it up. Where is the evidence. Development of club culture by having clubs on any given day makes sense and that part of the argument is easily understood. To have the juniors match the seniors does not as they play on different days does not. I think the governing body has to consult and make decisions based on what is good for the game and the input of the clubs affected should be valued and considered. There is a strong sense that this is consultation after the decision has already been made. If that is the case that is very poor. The people who are charged with running the game in this state are paid by the constituents they represent and should respect the right of all clubs to have a say and even vote on a proposal if this magnitude.johnydep wrote:We're very lucky, some may say privileged, to have so many choices and options.

Playfords Reserves have an u15,x5 under16s,x1 under 17,x4 under 18s a 19 and 20 year old, so yes as with most SL teams as the season has gone on opportunity has arisen. I don't think the the new structure will make more juniors go to senior games.
I believe the current system is not broke as it enables juniors who have earn't the right to play in the top division to play in it. The proposed structure does have logistic benefits(especialy to PL clubs), but even SL teams will have benefits of everyone at the same location. Yes it will enable the Pl clubs to get even better numbers and quality to their trials but this can also come at a cost when they get to seniors because there are only so many senior spots available each year. Players will make the grade in their junior age groups but when they get to reserves they will hit a brick wall for opportunity (if their not going to make first team). They will then be moved on. If they at the age of 19-20 try to go to SL club, most of these clubs will have also gone through similiar processes over the years making the player cut from PL clubs at that age looking for a gig somewhere as it will be difficult going to a completely new club and getting in, probably ending up at amateurs or giving the game away.
One thing that State League clubs will be able to offer junior players is an extended life at FFSA level ( unless your going to be a long term PL first teamer).
I believe the proposed structure has many benefits, is it fair ? (probably not), i just don't think it should be installed for 2014, 2015 yes but more than 5 minutes notice when coaching appointments may have already been made believing certain teams are A division now their not.
If SL clubs knew of this at the start of the year would they have spent an extra few dollars on a striker to help get them there?????
things happen for a reason

“The NCR undertaken by the FFA and the subsequent implementation of the NPL, highlighted the need for all senior clubs to have sound junior structures...All junior teams will be aligned to their Senior Team.”
CKFC believe that by allowing clubs to have all their junior teams play at the same location on the same day will:
- 1) Help club management to better coordinate the limited volunteers and scarce resources in a more efficient manner. Allowing for better delivery of services to club members and the general public, and less stress on limited current volunteers.
2) Create a ‘gala day’ atmosphere, due to the flow of games one after the other (hopefully age related), giving people reason to stay longer at games; watch the next age group, their siblings, friends, etc.
3) Also lead to an increase in general income and the number of volunteers available, and eventually increasing the supporter base due to more and better services. This should flow on to increased attendance numbers to senior home games.
Volunteers are a big part of a club, but over the years the work load has been increasing onto an ever shrinking number. Having all of a clubs’ teams playing at home allows for the majority of volunteers to be in one place at every home game. This will allow clubs to re-build a supporter culture and strengthen clubs financial positions; with opportunity to eventually grow into a viable business entity able to hire staff for administration, coaching and development purposes.
Croydon Kings FC is in agreement with the FFSA introducing this proposed structure.
Re: New Junior Structure 2014
The thing that gets me, is that some of the teams who are staying in the PL this year, are not there because they have sound junior structures. They are there because they are wealthy clubs and could afford big bucks for their seniors players. If this is all about promoting junior development, then why are those clubs being rewarded by enforcing this arbitrary cut off? The implementation is elitist and unfair to clubs who aren't wealthy, but are developing their juniors.

Fair call ...
By the way know a few guys at Vipers and am all for what you guys are trying to achieve and am sure you will as is a good club with high ambitions ..
That being said until you guys align with the FFSA and create an opportunity to achieve promotion to the PL you will have a lot different and vested perception the new structure.
But anyway I like your club (not to mention the Royale rolls) and so hope Vipers become a big and successful club and am sure you will and are heading in that direction.

All junior teams will prob not play at the same ground, unless of course they are scheduling games until 7pm
845amU12 / 1030amU13 / 12pmU14 / 130pmU15 / 3pmU16 / 5pmU17 - (multiple ground venues are ok but not everyone is)
1) SL clubs with smaller volunteer base is a long day for the ones who do volunteer (but I guess this is the whole point of SL clubs need to do more, to raise more, to compete more, right?)
2) Fair point and it also allows for player movement. However, I can see many clubs having two grades filled by 1-1/2 teams, just like Birks this year and others, which is fine and within the rules I suppose.
3) Not sure how longer days on a Sunday will mean more people coming to senior games, you may find it actually hinders it and some say I can't do both.
Why can't they make all senior games night games? This way clubs can split the days, for example, U16-9am/U17-11am/U18-1pm/Ressies-3pm/Seniors-6pm.
Leaving SSG/U12/13/14/15 to play Sundays.

I have learnt a lot from the different opinions on here and mainly why I haven't commented before this. There are a lot of experienced clubs on here and have enjoyed reading their offerings.
I think the debate is good, I hope it is as productive come meeting time.
