Maybe the solution is to just keep the zones of the u12s? All junior teams play the same team on the weekends as its their "zone". Yes, the senior team may play someone different, but it will still help with the inter club relations on a Sunday. Keeping zones the same will keep kids in their "local area" and take away the need to travel to 10mins up the road for higher divisions?DUKE BLUE wrote:Just a couple of “points” to add to the discussion.
1) “Over the years there were 3 families at Raiders with 3 siblings in each who all play for Raiders (different age groups) they spend far too much time on their "logistical nightmare's" for each Sunday's game, sometimes one of their kids would not even have their parents at the game to watch them. I guarantee that there would be many clubs with similar.
2) We will improve the Club to Club Atmosphere ...2 clubs coming together on the day (home or away)...Would certainly improve relationships between clubs & maybe just maybe get the juniors coming to the senior games to improve the overall “IMAGE” of the game.
I know from my own experience that I would hang around to watch another Raiders game to be played at the away club & hanging around would then entice me buy a bucket of chips & a fizzy drink to help the fundraising of that club.

The whole perpuse of clubs, in my opinion, is to produce players, players to fit into the clubs philosophy on how the games played which should be reflected by the first team.
All the junior teams should be making these kids as good as they can, so when they get to under 18's they can start moulding them into what the senior team needs, progression then goes on to the reserves where all players should be prepped ready to walk into their position in the seniors with out a hiccup.
What the FFSA has done has removed that urge to play for wins to get promoted, as has been mentioned in here and other topics.
I realise junior parents will probably not accept this and it surprises me Mat that you dont being on both sides of the fence, but thats the reality, I am a junior parent and senior player and to be junior coach soon, will I do it to get a team promoted or win the league? No chance, despite the fact my club is implimenting coaching KPI's which dont even mention results.
I think back to my junior days and yes the world did revolve around us, winning an under 17 cup was life or death, do I think playing for results all through my career hampered my development, YES.
As a metro coach, you dont have to worry about results because your club naturally attracts more ambitious and higher quality talent that, if coached correctly, will be strong. We dont worry about results either at Playford, but we do value our more talented youth players, and if you take the need for competition away from those kids, they will seek it somewhere else. We're already fighting an up hill battle just to attract kids to the club, now we have to fight even harder to keep them there. What will happen to a club like Playford when they can no longer produce their own talent? They cant attract senior players, so they will cease to exist.
My first coaching role as u14's (and then 15's) has produced 1 current senior player, and 8 playing reserves for the club. Taking the under12's this season i scouted local E&D clubs. Elizabeth Downs, Munno Para etc. Would you like to attend trials at Playford? No thanks, im going to Para Hills, im going to Raiders.. and on top of that was Metro and Croydon. 4 years of coaching at the club and i've become aware of how hard it is to compete with these other clubs in terms of just getting kids out to trials, let alone developing them.
Have you seen TK Shutter on a wednesday or friday night? I dont think clubs in the NPL will be putting on more teams, so although it may seem all these players might leave they really dont have any where to go, no more than they have now anyway.
By the way, how did the E&D clubs feel about a club with an unfair advantage coming in and recruiting players from their under 12's?

Re: New Junior Structure 2014
Firstly, most junior teams, regardless of club/division etc have 1-2 standout talents. No junior team in the state has 15 players of equal quality. some are early developers, some just dont develop. Im not suggesting 8-10 players will leave per squad, but SL teams may lose those 2-3, and they can fit into any PL clubs junior set up. There's always room for high quality talent.paul merson wrote:If all these players come to the likes of Metro where do you think they'll fit them all?matty2323 wrote:I agree Dan, and at no stage do i put results/promotion ahead of player development. As for the 2nd statement, all were good except Munno Para's coach. Most saw it as the natural progression from u11's E&D to u12's federation. Now with SSGs being set up at almost every club in the north, im guessing this will stop happening as much.

Matty, you keep saying how we (Raiders) don't have to worry, we're set, etc, etc
But like I said previously, our juniors were a shambles 5-6 years ago
When I started coaching 7 years ago, I had 6 players come to my trials, most teams had approx 10 players if they were lucky, our pitches were cow paddocks, and most age groups were in the bottom divisions
It CAN be turned around, we've proved it, but it can't be done overnight !

Re: New Junior Structure 2014
Im not denying it can be turned around. But im also very aware of the "community" at Raiders. Its a footballing community. You own the complex, you have people affiliated to the club whether it be on the sporting side, or the Croatian club. Clubs like Playford dont have that kind of identity... is that our own fault? to an extent, yes. If both our clubs where to start right now where you were 6-7 years ago, it would take you 3-5 years to turn it around. You think Playford haven't been trying to "do a Raiders" in that time? It will take us 10-15 years to turn it around, and that's if there's no setbacks.Željko Jurin wrote:Matty, you keep saying how we (Raiders) don't have to worry, we're set, etc, etc

I just think this will extend that to 15-20 years, and i cant see the club surviving that, both financially as a club, and as a sporting team.

Surely the location of your club helps compared to Playford also ZJ???
things happen for a reason

That rarely happens...vast majority of players at Metro are from the local community (either Italian community or local residents) and friends of friends...maybe at u17 up it changes...a little!
Just can't see huge numbers of families leaving clubs as Mrs R and Matty contend... as long as the SL clubs continue to improve the quality of their coaching and work their football philosophy..being guided by the National Curriculum ..they will be able to VASTLY raise the bar/standard with the 99% of players that will stay..they will be able to develop good players..
....certainly enough players for the first team..and a first team that can work towards PL status...especially with the implementation of the National Competition Review with the Player Points System.
...very clearly the current system of promotion and relegation is NOT working..the emphasis on what's being taught is about the result in almost all cases... in particular when there is some kind of result/outcome to the game (either avoiding relegation or gaining promotion).....yes this can be improved by education of club administrators , coaches and parents..the new system is an additional way of changing things.

Clearly you have put in the hard yards and been able to build a strong team over the last few years, likewise the 2 or 3 Raiders junior teams which are in the A division of their respective age groups. Players are happy, parents happy, Club is very happy as they can see a new generation of players coming through juniors and progressing to the Senior ranks. A promising future indeed.
Then 6 months out from the new season, the FFSA tells you all the Raiders teams will no longer be playing As or Bs in the Junior Premier League. No. In fact you will be playing in the newly created State League competition against sides which are not as technically skilled as your own.
Would you be happy? Would your players be happy? Would your parents be happy that their sons no longer are playing against teams of the same ability? Those players/parents are then faced with the decision of having to leave the club they are at in order to be playing against the better teams each week. Or they can stay put, and hope like hell their First Team gets promoted at the end of the next season.
So say your team stays intact and your players decide to stick with your club instead of leaving for a Premier League club - how will this help the development of those players, to be thumping other teams week in week out? And what benefit will those opposition teams derive from playing against teams that are significantly more technically advanced that they are getting beaten 20-nil?
But I'm forgetting, there will be no points and no ladders, so of course players, parents and Coaches won't mind at all if they win or lose. Yeah right.
I am sure you would have a completely different perspective if you were a junior coach in a State League club. Take for instance the Salisbury Under 15B team, who are undefeated and have earned every right to be promoted to 16As next year. Now those players will be denied the reward they deserve. Where is the fairness in that? Why are junior teams not judged on their own merit, rather than on the performance of their First team? This is nonsense.
Bad decision FFSA. If it 'aint broken - don't fix it.

Re: New Junior Structure 2014
So with your example above, which SL club is actually in that same category ?
We have 3 + 1
Don't any State League clubs that are in A's in 16s or 17s, play State League the next year in 18s ?
(i included 16s, as some clubs dont have 17s)
The examples people are pulling out are one team here from one club, another team there from another club ...... unfortunately no real ground breaking evidence
Sorry

I like this paragraph & have to agree .......why would you leave a club close to your home if the coaching is fun, fair & of a high standard? Kids will play regardless of what league they are in. Peer pressure may entice them to leave but if they (the kids) think about why they are moving clubs they would then challenge their loyalty....ask yourselves why are you loyal to your club?
Community feel?
Racial / traditional values?
Convenience?
Safety & Security?
Success of Seniors?
Junior player wanting to give something back to football....at your chosen club?
Juniors & Seniors must be aligned...common goal's....producing talent that will play 200+ senior games at your club or producing exceptional talent that will not only take your clubs name but also our STATE name into the global market.
Clubs desire to produce standardised coaching from SSF teams through to the junior age groups.....effectively producing junior talent that can walk into a senior team and pinch best player votes off seasoned established footballers.
If you feel like you belong at your club ..... You will remain at your club.....acceptance & tolerance.
Ask yourselves how many families have been at your club for 3 or more years and feel as though they belong or make a contribution of sorts?
Ask yourselves who are you bringing into your club to make the difference to your "culture"...movers? Or shakers? Or people that just sit in the background and "p1ss take".
This club development cannot be done by one or two people....but can be very successful if you have a number of people with the common goal, prepared to rollup their sleeves and mostly have the "kids" best interest at heart.
It is a tough one....there will be clubs that may suffer as a result of the decision being passed down by the governing body. But if the kids are treated with dignity and shown some things outside of what they have shown themselves....they will remain because they know they are in a learning environment that allows them to be creative in a team philosophy.....why would you leave?
Most of us have gone through school and can isolate one or maybe 2 good teachers in that period of schooling.......Imagine if we all went to a school where every year level we had that unbelievable teacher who made a life long impact...I can assure you we would not be on football forum reading & commenting as we please.
People may be looking at Raiders as a bench mark?? but I can assure you we are barely scratching the surface on this comment..... and each year attempting to improve from the previous. This is not about winning championships this is about producing players & or developing players to further their capabilities....feel good about themselves and confident enough to try things on the football pitch....in a competitive environment.
Re: New Junior Structure 2014
Ill give you an example. I certain Raiders u16 player who has just stepped up into the reserve side was at Playford as an u12, u13 and u14 player. Had potential, but at the end of the u14 season we got relegated. 3 seasons at Playford of the A division, parents firmly embedded on the committee. He did not even attend trials, he left immediately following the end of the season and signed for Raiders u15A. Was he happy? yes. Were his parents happy? yes, and infact they're still part of the committee. Why did he leave? A division football. Every single point you make is living in "the perfect world".. but realistically, as a member of an SL club for the past 4 seasons, i see 15-20 players every season leave for A division clubs. Thats the simple facts.DUKE BLUE wrote:hudsona wrote:"As a metro coach, you dont have to worry about results because your club naturally attracts more ambitious and higher quality talent that, if coached correctly, will be strong."

dont doubt that ZJ, they taste great. Theres 3 potential first team players playford lost simply because they were not in the A division. Re: New Junior Structure 2014

Sorry
No need to apologise if you misunderstand the point I was making.
I am associated with a State League club, but even if I was not, I see nothing that will benefit the entire junior competition, only greater advantages for some clubs, at the expense of the rest.
As you will not be adversely affected by the restructure you appear to have little understanding or empathy for those clubs that will be.
Re: New Junior Structure 2014
im unfamiliar with young ZB? i hate to admit it, but i dont know every junior at the club unfortunately. I know not EVERY kid will leave, but the fact remains enough will. Those 3 u16s are proof. The 2-3 playing u14's are another example. 5-6 potential first team players that left for the A division (right or wrong reason, they still left). Like themessenger states, this new structure does little to improve the competition and development of kids, and just favors certain clubs. Its hard to see it from outside the comfort zone of the PL.DUKE BLUE wrote:Will young ZB leave? & why not? We developed him into a medal winning talent in the "industry Cup".....![]()
Seriously though ask this boy why he won't leave his club?.....your club.
Some people remain for their own reasons... & these may be the right reasons?
Re: New Junior Structure 2014
I like this paragraph & have to agree .......why would you leave a club close to your home if the coaching is fun, fair & of a high standard? Kids will play regardless of what league they are in. Peer pressure may entice them to leave but if they (the kids) think about why they are moving clubs they would then challenge their loyalty....ask yourselves why are you loyal to your club?

Juniors & Seniors must be aligned...common goal's....producing talent that will play 200+ senior games at your club or producing exceptional talent that will not only take your clubs name but also our STATE name into the global market.

This club development cannot be done by one or two people....but can be very successful if you have a number of people with the common goal, prepared to rollup their sleeves and mostly have the "kids" best interest at heart.
It is a tough one....there will be clubs that may suffer as a result of the decision being passed down by the governing body. But if the kids are treated with dignity and shown some things outside of what they have shown themselves....they will remain because they know they are in a learning environment that allows them to be creative in a team philosophy.....why would you leave?

ask what happens when people may do all this and feel great but the level of comp is poor or the team is relegated and other players leave the team as they are not in it for the same reasons it's the clubs that loose out.
is it not bad enough that the code looses so many juniors at 16-18 due to no extra divisions in FFSA for the overflow of players and once you fill the senior sides you may only take 5 players a year what about the rest
no wonder the amatures love the FFSA for supplying fresh players each year.
will more players stay or go back to E&D to play u/6 - 18's for the promotion and stay for amatures that go from div 6 to div 1 and that club may have senior teams in each division not just 1.

those lads in your 16's were in my 14's team that got relegated. And if my 13's were to get relegated? there are certainly 3-4 that would seek A division football. hell, if this structure comes into effect, i could lose them at the end of this season. The points im making aren't speculation, or theories, the fact is ive seen them happen, every year for the last 4 years at my club while ive been coaching.Željko Jurin wrote:Who's to say then, whenever one of your junior teams doesn't make A div, or do and then get relegated, that kids won't leave also ?matty2323 wrote:dont doubt that ZJ, they taste great. You're also competing against us, who in u11, u12 and u13 offer 3x a week training, at no extra charge to kids/parents
People talk, and in todays day and age I would understand more parents/kids leaving their clubs that train 2x weekly (the norm), for clubs that offer 3x

Re: New Junior Structure 2014
No, i dont get paid, nor are the kids charged. I would love to offer 3x training sessions a week, and thats what Monday nights are for. Majority of kids had STIC on this night for a period as well. But have to find a balance for the kids in terms of those playing cricket, basketball, AFL and indoor/futsal. Scary thing is, they were all surprised we trained twice a week, E&D is only once a week these days!Željko Jurin wrote:Coaching academies Mondays .... I assume you get paid, and kids also must pay ?? Re: New Junior Structure 2014
Think there is an FFSA meeting on the 9th Sept re all this..
Why is it that players switch clubs to play in the top league .. is it parents ego, kids thinking they are too good for their current league or clubs??
The thing is a lot of these kids will switch clubs play in the top div and then disappear out of the system as they will be competing against a lot of other elite players for spots in the big clubs 18’s and Reserves etc ..
Sometimes these kids should think about what is best for their future development and that may be staying where they are, getting into the 18’s or Reserves entrenching themselves at that level and then maybe looking to move ...
My boys love the club where they are at, have chosen to stay at this club and play Div 2 JPL though both being invited to Div 1 JPL sides and actually almost pressured by some at those clubs to do so.
They have stayed where they are and enjoyed doing so as they love the club and their team mates and now both should be promoted regardless of and league restructure... in fact my youngest’s team was able to retain all the top rated players for this year as none of them wanted to leave despite poaching attempts and the fact that the team was in Div 2 this year.
So basically kids and some coaches on here should perhaps look at the whole picture .. not just ego from playing in “the top div because we are too good for anything less” .. a lot can change in those teams .. I am aware of the current Para Hills 15A team who I think are bottom of the table after being one of the top teams in the 14’s the season before .. would a have been relegated if not for the proposed league restructure...
Sometimes its better to accept and make the most of how things are .. with every negative there is always a positive..

Correct me if I'm wrong but the majority of that team went to Salisbury United and Modbury after the best went to West Adelaide. I wonder if those decisions were based on getting promotion back into As knowing the PH team was going backwards after their best moved on. If peoples thoughts are right they will just return back to where they came anyway, would love to hear from Sals on how many of that 15 team are actually 14s from last year while you are complaining about losing players.

Re: New Junior Structure 2014
I'm not refering to relegation / promotion for the players it's about playing higher levels from any league (currently the only way to tell who's got the best is A,B,C) and this will be denied due to seniors who already play at their level some juniors will loose out.Željko Jurin wrote:matty2323 wrote:Željko Jurin wrote:He came to us because he heard about our chevap rolls, and hasn't regretted his decision

if there is a time when this comes into play all PL clubs should only take on 16 new players in SSG each year and continue to develop the juniors they have through to u/18 e.g. if you have 5 groups in SSG at present you need to drop whatever is outside of your 16 for future needs in 2014 then only have top up players come in when someone leaves as they get older.
sounds fair all round does it not?
would you like to see no more trias PL clubs?
