Mawson Lakes SC progressing nicely
Howdy, just posting an update to let anyone who is interested know about the happenings at our new club.
Our committee has been formed and we've held a couple of meetings already. We're always open to new committee members coming on board, many hands make light work as they say, so feel free to get in touch if you're keen.
Incorporation paperwork has been submitted, now we're playing the waiting game. Once that's been approved, we can start looking for sponsorships, grants etc. We've had a couple offers already before we've even asked so it's looking promising.
Home grounds in our first season are going to be a bit makeshift, due to a delay in the construction of our proper ground in Mawson Lakes. We'll be training on Mawson Lakes Oval (the big footy oval), and playing home games at North Ingle School. This will just be for our first season while the turf establishes itself on the Mawson Lakes Sport Precinct. We'll move into our proper home permanently in 2015.
I'm in talks with a couple of clubs to set up friendlies early next year, if your club want to give us a game, we'd love to set something up so go ahead and get in touch. And I'm also in talks to get a couple of big names involved with the club. I'm aching to give out details but I really shouldn't yet as nothing is finalised.
We're always looking for volunteers to get involved at the club. Coaches, trainers, bbq masterchefs, all are welcome. And in 20 years time you can have the honor of saying you've been with the club since day dot.
We're aiming to become a firmly community-oriented club. We want to be very open, approachable and family friendly. We welcome people from all backgrounds, of all fitness and ability levels. As the first soccer club from Mawson Lakes to actually represent the Mawson Lakes community, we feel a responsibility to become a club the suburb can be proud of. Most of all we want to fun!
Our plans for the future are to eventually add womens and juniors teams to the club, and perhaps join the Elizabeth and District Junior League, but that all depends on volunteers, finances, facilities and so on. For now we're aiming to form two sides so that we can join the SAASL sunday competition in div 4,5 or 6.
We get together and play informal social games every single Saturday at 3:30pm at Mobara Park Mawson Lakes, so feel free to come on down and check us out. We usually get about 15 or so players out.
If anyone is keen to jump on board, you can get in touch with myself (Michael), club president on 0425657662 or Club Secretary, Olympia on 0433304219.
Thanks!

Thanks guys, hearing the positive feedback and having the trust of the players we've got on board so far are the things that keep me going. Really appreciate the feedback.

Good effort mate. Hope it works out.
On a side note. If you continue the Saturday run around during the off season, I'd be keen to join in if permitted.
And I still think you should have put something more fierce on your club crest, like a pitbull! Early stages I know, so still time to play around with it.

Re: Mawson Lakes SC progressing nicely
great to see a club being set up in ML
as a retired player and now regular spectator of the saasl and a ML resident of 13 years, i would be keen to join the club as a non playing financial member if that is possible.

Re: Mawson Lakes SC progressing nicely
Appreciate the offer mate, but just to make my question clear, still playing at Villa for the remainder of the season, and unless the body says no more (and it's getting closeMichael - MLSC wrote:Azzuri80, absolutley. In saying that, I was specifically asking about the off season, as if you continue with the scratch matches throughout that period, I would definitely be interested in joining in to, A) stop myself from turning into a fat c#@t for the coming season (which is always achieved, successfully mind you), or, B) if I decide not to play on, I would still enjoy the social kick about, to avoid the potential pitfalls of point A.
Many will tell you, including myself, that I am well past my prime, but you'd be helping me out either way, and I'd like to think I can maybe offer your future team something in return, whether it be what to expect from the league, and some tricks of the trade from an old man, or at the very least, just some proven general sledging I can pass down to you all, to get your opposition worked up.

Judge for yourself, but my previous posts will tell you I'm pretty good at it, however some make it pretty easy.

Anyway, there in lies my interests, if you're open to anyone joining in the kick about's, regardless of club loyalties, then I'd definitely be keen. If no thanks is your reply, I totally understand, and still wish you well.

Haha um...honestly, feel free to come down and have a kick with us. We don't poach players and actually have a few guys from other clubs who join us on Saturdays. They're only casual social kickabouts among mates after all, so if you are staying with your current club that's absolutely 100% fine, you're still welcome!Azzurri80 wrote:Appreciate the offer mate, but just to make my question clear, still playing at Villa for the remainder of the season, and unless the body says no more (and it's getting closeMichael - MLSC wrote:Azzuri80, absolutley. Being the biggest suburb in Adelaide in terms of size and population, with a major University campus on our turf, I don't forsee any issues in filling out two teams.
We'll certainly be there in the off season, so looking forward to hearing your sledging advice!

Re: Mawson Lakes SC progressing nicely
I really wanted us to be an FC. The only reason we aren't, is because there is an eggball, I mean Aussie Rules, club in Mawson Lakes already called Mawson Lakes Football Club. Kind of unfair since they hardly use their feet, but that's the way the cookie crumbles, so Soccer Club it is.God is an Englishman wrote:Why are you an SC and not a FC?
And a further update, we recieved our Incorporation certificate today!! So we are now officially Mawson Lakes Soccer Club, Inc.

We need to take ownership of the word football, the more teams the better.

A social kick around sounds great, so I'll be in touch in a few weeks once the current season ends.
Cheers.
