How's everyone's pitches going? More rain on the way supposedly.
Farkn rain, what happened to all the experts that came out and said this would be the driest winter on record.

Vipers pitch should be in PERFECT condition as its never been played or trained on. The new pitch drains really well but hate to think how it will end up after Saturday when the C and B team play on it

Patty was the best player I ever played with in juniors. He had the potential to be playing Serie A or in another big league in europe. It's a shame to see that his career never got to the heights that it should of. He is a great bloke and I also hope his fitness comes goodLucas Leiva wrote:

Vipers are lucky to have a player who can score 90% of their goals. Because without him they are rubbish. And they have an interesting way to put drainage in a pitch. Get local goons to do but outs on it.

Hmmm. Bitter much? Are you one of those relegated Magpies who left his club in the lurch to enjoy back to back seasons in Div 2?magpie8 wrote:Vipers are lucky to have a player who can score 90% of their goals. Possibly. If you knew what happened at hahndorf you might understand why I left. The reality is if he hadn't scored all your goals you would be mid table maybe lower. I don't care what league I play in. I just didn't want to be at a club that hates having a senior team. Apart from the first 30min Stirling looked the better side and probably should've won

Vipers are top because they have a lot of players that have played in the same soccer team for many years with each other, to say that we are shit is a little over the top. We have lost 3 games this year and against the Eagles and Breakers we were very much in the game the whole time. We still have a lot to work on but so does all the teams fighting for promotion.

Re: Saturday Div 2 Season 2013
I've not seen vipers play this year but bit harsh to call any team a 1 man team. Any striker is only as good as the service put to him. I'm sure Terrible Shot would be the first to say that without his midfielders and his strike partner he would be useless. After all, the crosses and delievery in need to be there and the runs being made by his striker partner creating space for him etc..
Also keeper and defenders, no go good scoring 4 if you conced 5.

Re: Saturday Div 2 Season 2013
Maybe not useless just less effective
Our midfield has a lot of depth which has definetly come in handy throughout the year, thought yesterday our defense stood up and showed we can win without conceding. Thought we dominated first half against Stirling yesterday and maybe should of been two nil up if it wasn't for a very LATE offside call from a junior linesman, probably was just off though
, 2nd half all Stirling and we just tried to get them on the counter when we could. They are a Strong side, glad I'm not playing them again.

Re: Saturday Div 2 Season 2013
I have to agree, that without Matteo, Vipers would be struggling. I remember when we played them earlier in the season, we dominated possession, and the majority of the game was played in our attacking half, however, every time a Viper's defender/midfielder got the ball, they simply had to just play a through ball anywhere, and Matteo was good enough to get onto it nearly every time and capitalize. Granted our defence was terrible that day, but due to playing such a high line due to our midfield dominating possession, it left a lot of space for him to exploit, and he made their midfield look better than they were, as his smart positioning and movement allowed him to be first to every stray ball his teammates played forward. Despite dominating possession our midfield were also slow to close the Viper's midfielders down when they lost possession, so they had way to much time to get the ball off quickly anywhere down the park.
I'm sure the Viper's faithful will disagree, but when you have a quality striker who can consistently get onto any ball played forward, it's not hard to make the rest of the team look good. I think the only way to try to stop Vipers this season is to pressure the midfield early so they can't play that quick long/through ball. I know that sounds pretty obvious, but my point is that when I watched them, no midfielder stood out as the type of player who could hold the ball and create time and space if closed down early. In saying that, it's still hard when even their stray balls seem to find him, and that is due to Matteo's class, not his teammate's.
I think Terrible Shot's just being modest, as he can't really call his teammates useless.

He is Superman and only Kryptonite can stop him....
He is a class player and we are glad he has made the Viperdome his home this season but to denigrate others that have put in this season and seasons past (as we aren't a club with big turn overs in stocks) is just not right.
Over our existence, besides when we were promoted to premier we have always been in the top half of the table challenging for promotion without a recognized striker mind you but a solid midfield and defense.
We have also gained some players that have played with each other before and, against poorer defenses (no offence but Div 2 is obviously not as solid as Sunday Premier) things have worked out well so far. Couple those players with the core group we have had over the last few years, and a savy coaching staff it makes for a good group that will be competitive every time they step out on the pitch.
We have all played each other at least once now and know what to work on for the 2nd half of the season, plenty of points still available.
In the End one person does not make a winning side but it certainly helps having a striker that knows were the back of the net is no doubt.......Good luck to all the Div 2 sides for the rest of the season, even to the people associated, with sour grapes that post under recently created usernames.

It's also funny that one of our midfielders has been man-marked for the last 5 years but hey, maybe I see things differently

Re: Saturday Div 2 Season 2013
Fair opinion, but my opinion is only based on what I saw that day, and I'll stick by it. It was earlier in the season, so no doubt you would have improved as a collective side by now. As a terrible midfielder myself, my opinions are based on personal experience, as a few years back I played with a similar striker to Matteo, and he made me look good as any ball I played forward he would get onto and score. And I can confirm that I am much worse than any of your midfielders.Steve#4 wrote:He is Superman and only Kryptonite can stop him....![]()

Our last meeting we lost two of our strikers to injuries in the second half and our player coach had to come on with basically no match fitness, so we found it hard to find that final finish up top, in contrast to you guys with Matteo. It was a day for the attackers also, as both defences were terrible that game. I look forward to our next match, and hopefully we can both have our best 11 injury free and on the park to make a great game of it for the full 90.
Re: Saturday Div 2 Season 2013
Like I said Lucas, just my opinion based on what I saw. Every time you guys won possession in our attacking half, it was a quick one or two passes, then a long ball through, or over, to Matteo, who then ran onto it and scored. Take nothing away from a deserved Vipers win that day. I'm not having a go at you or your midfield, as I'm sure any team would use the same tactics if it worked as well as it did that day for you. If anything, I'm having a slight go at my own team, as they gave you the space and time to play those balls and helped me form the opinion I have. Hopefully next time we meet, our midfield can work a little harder defensively and close you guys down earlier. If your midfield can then provide Matteo with the same service under more pressure, then I'll happily change my opinion and sing your praises. Remember my opinion is only based on the one match I watched you play, and it's just that, an opinion. At the end of the day, you guys won and that's all that matters, so obviously your midfield did it's job. However, in reference to the argument raised, I'm not sure you would have converted all those chances that seemed to come from nothing, if it wasn't for the class you had up front getting on the end of everything you hurled forward that day.Lucas Leiva wrote:That's funny - I can't remember playing a single long ball this year :?Azzurri80 wrote:I have to agree, that without Matteo, Vipers would be struggling.
