SAASL Ground Watch
Just putting this up there as a forewarning topic.
Just been down to Southern Knights ground at O'Sullivan Beach....very, very soft in parts with quite a bit of surface water and little chance of it drying up.
South Adelaide Panthers have a re-scheduled game there for tomorrow against Sturt ( as Sturts ground is off limits and Burton is not to be used).
If that game goes ahead I imagine parts of the O'Sullivan Beach ground will be a quagmire.
With Munno Para having to travel over an hour to get here on Sunday there could be a chance a referee might not allow the game to go ahead.
We really need someone from the referees association (or the referee assigned the game) to assess the ground before 10:00-am Sunday so that we/they can let Munno Para (who have a bus scheduled to leave at 10:30 am) know if the game will go ahead or not !

Re: Ground Watch
Just down at St Clair and soggy like most grounds but playable.
Unfortunately most won't know until tomorrow morning after we see what rain falls tonight.

Our game was called off by stingrays a couple of weeks ago on the Saturday night. Didn't realise the actual referee had to do it.

Not sure on the policy here but I would imagine if if gets to the day it should be done by the referee BUT if you know the pitch is going to be unplayable then it's just common sense to call it as early as possible to people don't waste their days.
For the record, dark when I was at Ladywood last night but from all reports it's wet and very muddy. As was said earlier, so much will depend on the over night rain which means we'll probably have to wait for the refs to make the call.
Re: Ground Watch
I believe there needs to be a recreation ground horticultural and soil engineering think tank....what is the best turf-grasses to use, how to achieve the best drainage and maintenance ideas. Council (and private) ground maintenance people need to share ideas.....
Some grounds seem to hold up extremely well, regardless of rainfall etc.
Is the pumping of reclaimed water into the underground aquifers raising the water table making grounds less able to soak up heavy rainfall ?

Re: SAASL Ground Watch
Why is it that the state and premier leagues have the foresight to call off u18 and reserves matches so that a grade matches can still go ahead yet in the saasl this never seems to happen. Vipers played Red Blue Eagles on one of the worst pitches I've seen straight after Cs and Bs played on the same pitch and tore it to shreads. B and C matches can be rescheduled at season's end if they have any bearing on the overall champion, otherwise they can be missed. I'd be spewing as a B or C player but would realise the important business of promotion and relegation happens in the A grade.

Cobras postponed their reserves catch up game just last weekend, so the A game could happen.

Cs Sturt Marion vs BOSA postponed.
As & Bs still going ahead at the moment.

Re: SAASL Ground Watch
The problem is that B's and C's are refereed by club referees who don't take into account that they need to preserve the ground for the seniors (A's) to play. Clubs need to educate their club referees.
This also applies to appointed referees on reserve games. They need to consider if the B's game goes ahead, would it destroy the pitch which would have a bearing on the A's game going ahead.

Re: SAASL Ground Watch
I guess they could always swap the playing times around so the A's played 1st. Im sure the reserves and c's wouldnt be too precious about the state of the pitch.loukaniko wrote:Why is it that the state and premier leagues have the foresight to call off u18 and reserves matches so that a grade matches can still go ahead yet in the saasl this never seems to happen. Re: SAASL Ground Watch
why would B's & C's care about the pitch, I mean it's not like they're still member of the club or pay the same fees or anything is it?
Yeah, let them suffer!

Re: SAASL Ground Watch
Try getting some facts before having a go on here...B's and C's played on that pitch as we had the pitch on the otherside set up for the A's. We linemarked and put up nets on the pitch that was the best quality but unfortunately during the B's it pelted down and a puddle formed on the A's pitch so the Ref wouldn't play on it. Trust me, we wanted our side to play on the better surface because the 2nd pitch would have evened up the contest....Surprise surprise, we didn't get to (refs decision) and that made the game what it was.Baresi wrote:I guess they could always swap the playing times around so the A's played 1st. If I played for uni I'd be laughing at any suggestion of playing it at your ground as well. Bad enough having to go there once a season.MuzzaStu111 wrote:last I checked we played amateurs just play it out!

If I was uni I wouldn't be going to Murray bridge to get the game called off. Petrol is 150.09 a litre!

***IMPORTANT***
ALL GAMES AT FLINDERS TOMORROW SAT 20th HAVE BEEN POSTPONED DUE TO THE WEATHER
The league has been notified, as have the refs. Club officals have also been notified. If you could please let your players know.
This affects Angle Vale Div 5
East Adelaide Div 4
And One Tree Hill Div 3
We are sorry for the late notice, but a recent pitch inspection means the games won't go ahead.
Our apologies to all teams and players affected.
