Watched a film on the way to Singapore last month but can't remember the name.
Was subtitled and was about a small town fishing community that had progressed in the cup.
An ex superstar player that had fallen on hard times and alcoholism was sentenced to coach this club
in the cup(sounds familiar storyline). he get's together ex players and makes it all the way to play Juve(I think)
to save the fishing towns produce plant...I won't give away the ending.
Was a fun movie with a few laughs and wouldn't mind watching it again as I had a few reds on that flight...

I've heard about this film, don't know if i could watch a film on a plane with subtitles though.

I prefer films I don't have to concentrate on on a plane, I normally doze on flights and regularly will just close my eyes and listen as I drift off rather than actually WATCH. Plus you will invariably get distrubed by someone wanting to get out, serve you food or I want to get another beer.
I'm the reverse. I've never really been a big fan of flying and can never sleep on a flight so prefer to concentrate on something to take my mind off the fact that I am flying. Having said that, relying on subtitles when you're trying to eat is a pain. These days I take my tablet and stop/start films as I please.
When Saloth Sar gets banned for the reason you request Adolf Hitler to be banned I shall stop posting as Adolf Hitler.

As I said, can't remember....I watched Save your Legs First, then Chasing Mavericks followed by this little gem all accompanied with a glass or two....
Can't find it on the web anywhere, my only chance is if someone has seen it before...
I believe it was called The World Cup "A Captains Tale" The true story of the First world footballing competition, won by a bunch of miners from Durham. Won it three times and beat the likes of Juventus to retain the cup in perpetuity. Starred Dennis Waterman and Richard Griffith etc made in 1982 as a Telemovie.
Hope this helps

Too many things in the original descriptions don't work. That film does exist though and is based on the true story of West Auckland.

There are a number of Chinese and Japanese in the film.
They are martial art experts.
An old guy recruited them for a football tournament.
They played in a street match.
They were beaten like hell in the match (like a war zone)
The team which played against them was all juiced up (steroids)
Finally, they won with the spiritual power.
