TONY ADAMS believes the next England Under-21 coach will be on a hiding to nothing... unless attitudes change.
Arsenal legend Adams, a potential candidate for the post, does not think Stuart Pearce deserved to be axed from the role.
And he has pinpointed the nation’s inability to produce elite players as the real problem.
The ex-Three Lions defender, now a UEFA Pro Licence coach, said: “Stuart was doing a great job and worked very hard.
“But his hands were tied in the quality of players and some top players not being available.
“It’s a bigger problem than Stuart Pearce. We are not producing players.”
Adams says he will not apply for the job but will always help out his country if asked, as he did in taking coaching sessions recently for England Under-19s.
He said: “I don’t need to go chasing work. I said after my escapade of managing Portsmouth I wouldn’t work for idiots any more — so that’s 99 per cent of football!”
The word is spreading - but will the FA finally listen?

Nothing like getting your excuses out there just in case you fail.
If this username offends you does Saloth Sar. At least that is the name of someone that exists.

Not an excuse a simple fact that the number of English players looks getting even lower this season. The extra tv millions will be spent on ready made players from overseas.Wir Sind Helden wrote:Nothing like getting your excuses out there just in case you fail.
You will see the under 21 side made of Championship players and fringe EPL players.
