Boys dont drink too much beer at our club, its more scotch. I think you get my drift and I doubt that any secret deals have been done, the boys dont need it. I just dont like the fact people say players are getting paid just because there good and have just arrived at a new club. Our coach has played with all the new signings at one stage and they are all "kombari" with one another so there is no need for payments.Beach_Driller wrote:$50 or $100 a bit extra always helps ....Nice bit of beer money. However with the prices of drinks at some grounds no wonder no one stays for a beer after the game.
Golden Eagle, there was a team last year in Div 2 that thought only the coach was getting paid and none of their players. But that was far from the true.. there was a lot of secret deals!
Personally, I would rather play with a good bunch of lad/mates than get paid to play for any team! But unfortunately i don't have any mates
Should I say that John Manca is getting paid at West Beach? I dont think he is, he just wants to play with his mates there. We asked him to play with us and he said his mates are at West Beach. Good Luck to him and I hope he doesnt score against us.

What money? Do you think we would be playing on that ground if we had money. What with the Imbros boys impling that Pontians have money.maxin in the shade wrote:But that’s the only reason Pontians will win it…………..cause they have moneyLFC8 wrote:I think the Pontians will run away with it with all the money there spending on players but the rest of the div will be very competitive.
but it think the rest of the div will be fairly even and certainly competitive
Its a shame that by the time we play you guys we will already know that you will be getting relegated and we will be getting promoted! Is that the type of trash talk you want to hear? Cant believe that you guys are thinking that way.

Golden Eagle,
Don't know much about pontians. their coach or their players. And i definitely don't know what "kombari" means...
I have just been reading a lot of rumour about pontians, paying players, etc, etc and wanted to find out if it was true! And also have a few digs at Fulham
But if all your players have the class of Johnny Manca then you will be very tough opposition.Look forward to the game ...

Not all are as good as Johnny Manca! Hes a good boy and a classy player too. I hope for the ref sake he doesnt loose it to often he does go off!. I think us, West Beach, TTG and maybe Royal Park will the one to challange for promotion. We know that every team we play this year will be putting in that little extra and the pressure is on us so lets bring it on and see what happens.

I said it to the Vista lads and will see it to the Beach boys that last year was your best chance for promotion.........

based on what Bigpond?
last seasons results and squads?
Last season the 2nd Div was piss poor in my opinion, any two of 6 could've gone up, every team at some point had their noses in the bag then threw it away with silly results, far too many mistakes from us, you, the easties, fulham...... be honest, I'm right, a truly decent team would have walked that league last season.
New season mate, the board is wiped clean all round.
Are you thinking how well you will do this year in Div 1 based on last years Div 1?
I do hope your not.

golden eagle, im not saying pontians have paid players to come to the club. no doubt that players go to certain clubs to play with mates. ours is a prime example, and im sure some of the recruits youve gotten, have arrived for that reasonGolden EAGLE wrote:What money? but what ive heard (from a player who PLAYS at pontians) is that certain players get paid for their efforts. not saying they wouldnt be there if they werent getting paid, but thats what ive heard
now whether this players was kidding (i dont think he was) or not, thats another issue
and were not looking to 'trash talk' or bag your club. we hear its a well run and supported club and no doubt you guys will do well this year - and not only cause you may or may not be paying players

If this is the case, shouldn't you be at the Pontians LFC8?
you and Paradiso are koumbari aren't ya???

well mate, vista has lost danny and peds, colin is still there(though sore at the moment) and have picked up alot of new players, alot of young lads that will need to prove themselves against the more experienced teams, however there are some very talented youngens out there of which a couple are proving themselves to be capable infront of the sticks. as for last year being the year for vista.?. i strongly believe this is the year vista can step up and prove themselves.many changes within the club, alot of young new talent,2 half decent coaches( ) and the backing from the club, its all there. go the mighty vista pride.East Boy wrote:My prediction is for Pontains to be promoted too. We played them last week and they knocked the ball around quite well in patches. They did squeel like women on a few occasions, so i dont think they will like the rough side of div 2 sides. But hey they have great experience and the striker is quality. A proven goal scorer is always hard to come by in div 2. Just look at torsten for farm, proven scorer and it was hard to keep him off the score sheet in every game he played.
Not too sure about 2nd spot though. Haven't vista lost a lot of players this year?? They need the experience of PC etc, but the loss of colin and danny smith will be a major blow to their promotion aspirations. Have u lads picked up a striker yet?? You need one thats for sure! You already know this though. West Beach have lost the big man McCombie to balfours , but how many of the older lads down there stayed on?? There were a few more experienced there who held it together for them last year.
Southern Knights could be a surprise package. A few decent players there last year and the pitch is one of the hardest to play on! Home ground advantage is a good thing for these lads.
TTG are always a decent team. With Mr French down there, the woods brothers, derek simpson, damien hassell and a few other boys they will be the one i will back for the best shot at 2nd. As long as they have good depth in the squad they will be fine.

GE, I'm with Maxi....I heard that a few players where getting paid down there this year.Golden EAGLE wrote:Is that a fact LFC 8! You have no idea mate. Do you play with your mate at Imbros or are they just blokes of the street that you dont know that well? Most player that are in their later stages of their careers and have won almost everything than can in this state chose to play with there mates that they might have played with in the past, in previous teams. If you look at our new signings do you really think they need an extra $50 or $100 bucks a week? Do talk crap on here. When ever a club has success at this level everyone thinks is because they pay players. I am at the Pontians and only the coach gets a fee. Look forward to knocking a couple past ya this year.LFC8 wrote:I think the Pontians will run away with it with all the money there spending on players but the rest of the div will be very competitive.
LFTWNG11.....Did you get close to the chicken wing eating record last night???????? .....it stands 17
Did I ever say anything about players getting paid down there last year when you guys were flying high on top of div 3??????

Look there are some guys at the club that the club have helped out in gaining employment and getting the right contacts set up for them. I would like to know which player you are talking about?
youre taking the piss arent ya???
are you telling the forum that in order to entice certain players to the club (and we all know who they are), the pontian committee through its contacts network have found employment for these boys????
yet you posted earlier
If you look at our new signings do you really think they need an extra $50 or $100 bucks a week?
so what you are saying is that they dont need $50/$100 but they need jobs.

Hey bigpond, the only reason fulham got promoted into div 1 was because you guys did finish third & that Adel villa went to Saturday comp.bigpond wrote:You guys at West Beach love knocking us but then again we are rivals.Beach_Driller wrote:Well at least one thing is clear, whoever is in Div 2 next year will be playing Fulham..
Yeah Pumas haven't heard much about them or royal park? How is their pre-season going..
I will give you some sympathy because I would be bitter as well if I was 10 minutes away from a DIV 1 spot as you guys were last year.
Your not the 1st to predict we will go down but I guess we will have to wait and see.
Got Royal Park in a trial next week so can let you know what they are shaping up like.
Still fancy Pontians not only because of there recurits but also there performance last year in DIV 3 - undefeated and gave the DOWNS a push in the quarter finals of the cup last year when they only lost 2-1.
With the bulk of that team still there plus some other excellent signings I think they will be hard to top.
So I wouldnt be bragging to much on a CLAYTONS PROMOTION!!
i think it'll be between pontian and TTG. played both last year and were both too good for div 3. both have recruited well also. the top 3 will be pretty close with west beach included in there. croatia will be ok if they decide they want to stay in div 2, plympton might struggle and i think that raptors will finish in the middle somewhere

good to see all the know it alls out there writing of the mighty vista 4 weeks before the season starts. Weve had some very promising trials both internal and against other teams. Will have to let the results do the talking though, got a good feeling that the goal tally will be quite a bit up on the last few seasons though. TTG, Pontians, west beach and Vista will be top four with some blowout games i think for some of the teams coming up. looking forward to a great season... PRIDE HONOUR RESPECT!
We are going to have to agree to disagree on this 1.carra23 wrote:

When I last played in DIV 2 for Fulham some 4 or 5 years ago the standard was much lower than last years.
By having 6 teams vying for promotion last season doesn't that mean that the legaue was even???
Farm were a very good side, Vista were hard to score against all year (except last game of the season), Beach were decent, we were always competitive and East were hard to beat.
Remember last year was a world cup year and some teams did lose a few players.
Anyway this year is a new year for you guys and us so all the best.
Personally it doesn't bother me who comes up as long as it is not Beach

Good round up there, but as I said if anyone of them had been consistent it would have been a canter going up.
Yep, I agree about world cup year too.
all the best this year

Div 2 @ The Gully.
I think the Gully will do well this year, but without a doubt the stand out side coming up will be the Eagles.
Anyone who witnessed TTG away at the Eagles will tell you it was a game to remember.
So good luck to both sides because not only was the football great, but also the fact that it was all friendly once it was over.
Cheers Lads.

If that is the case & I suspect you are right ,I couldn't agree with you more strongly. we as a club have never been a benefeciary of such treatment, but have watched others rise around us. While I can admit sometimes this is necessary it should allways flow down. ie minimum teams up .

TTG with money behind them?Beach_Driller wrote:Why spend all that money in the Amateur League to win 100 dollars as league winners????
I hear TTG has some money behind them as well!
The beach may have to raise their beer prices in line with the rest of the league to compete...
Wishfull thinking my friend. No more money than we have ever had , success does tend to attract though.
