England v southern ireland
the English FA have asked England fans not to sing songs that might offend our friends from across the sea.
I think we need a list of songs that we can/can't sing in case we offend some of them.
Personally, I would love to be there singing God Save the Queen - oops no, they might be offended.

Just as long as you don't sing "Boom, Bang a Bang".

Who is playing their national anthem?
I reckon it will be Foster & Allan.

I agree, let's hope the irish behave themselves this time.

You must be referring to the Irish police that belted the shit out of the english Neo-Nazis, yes?God is an Englishman wrote:ozzie owl wrote:Lets hope we dont get a repeat of the game in 1995, where the idiotic fringe caused trouble and the game had to be abandoned.

If so, you can hardly blame them...it was the english fans that started rioting.

Sadly on most occassions when England played abroad in the 1980's and 1990's violence followed. I was at Euro 1980 in Italy and saw it first hand in Turin.Stiglitz wrote:You must be referring to the Irish police that belted the cabernet out of the english Neo-Nazis, yes?God is an Englishman wrote:ozzie owl wrote:Lets hope we dont get a repeat of the game in 1995, where the idiotic fringe caused trouble and the game had to be abandoned.

If you were there you'd know that it wasn't only the English, we generally just reacted and got the blame.ozzie owl wrote: Sadly on most occassions when England played abroad in the 1980's and 1990's violence followed. I was at Euro 1980 in Italy and saw it first hand in Turin.

However the violence at the camping grounds was certainly started by the locals.

Southern Ireland? What team is this? Never heard of them. You should have a word with your geography teacher.God is an Englishman wrote:the English FA have asked England fans not to sing songs that might offend our friends from across the sea.

I watched the match on Setanta and it wasn't a bad game.
Shane Long for the Republic was lively and scored a header from a great leap above Glenn Johnson.
O'Shea was a rock at the back and Millwall's 'keeper David Forde was excellent.
For England I thought the Ox had a good game, as did Lamps who scored an opportunistic goal. They'll have to improve though for the match in Brazil.
ps, still reckon I'm getting value for money with Setanta ($4 p.w., $16 per month) as many more World Cup qualifiers and international levels will be shown on this Channel 525.

Re: England v southern ireland
southern ireland is the country just below northern ireland, not that hard a concept really. Called it that all my life, same as i will always call it the ivory coast.
As for that you tube clip then again what do you expect from irish media. Nazi salutes They're not nazi salutes

FAI Chief Security Officer Joe Delaney clear where the blame lay when speaking after the game. "The Irish supporters were more aggressive and that disappointed me greatly. I saw a side of them which I hope I will never see again."

For the record I like Woy, very personable and has had a great career, but maybe senility is setting in.

Re: England v southern ireland
England returned to dark ages according to Gary Lineker with its old fashioned 442.
Gary Lineker described England's tactics against Republic of Ireland as "a step back to the dark ages" as Roy Hodgson's side were held to a 1-1 draw.
Hodgson opted for a 4-4-2 system but his players produced a lacklustre performance at Wembley against Giovanni Trapattoni's side.
Former England striker Lineker won 80 international caps between 1984 and 1992, scoring 48 times.
"Brazil will thrash us if we line up the same way," he said.
"Even though results haven't been great, felt tactically England were maturing, but this is a step back to the dark ages of two lines of four.
"Don't like England playing this system. So easy to play against. Predictable and dated.
"It's not about playing in straight lines, it's about playing between the lines. Depth gives flexibility, passing alternatives, creativity."
Hodgson, whose side meet Brazil in Rio on Sunday, defended his strategy, saying: "I can't be too disappointed with the way we tried to win the game.
"We were probing, trying all sorts of ways of getting around them.
"In terms of what we're asking the players to do, there were a lot of positives."
However, Match of the Day presenter Lineker was not alone in his criticism of England's laboured performance.
