Official referee doesn't turn up:

Post by Cantona.7 »

We are up here at Murray Bridge - and the official referee doesn't show up.
If we are happy to play with their club referee does the result stand?
(A Grade).

Yes, but having played with their club ref a few years ago I wouldn't recommend it.

On referees why aren't the reserve games in Div 2 getting official refs as promised at the AGM...We haven't had one all year???

Poor form from the SAASL....Last season you improved in this area but now we are back to the norm.

From SAASL COMETITION RULES
If by the scheduled time of kick off, the official referee is not present, neither is there
an official referees assistant present to take the referee’s place then the following shall occur;

- Senior (A team) fixtures – if there is no official referee then the game shall not be played.
The League will determine the outcome in accordance with the league championship rules.

- Reserve (B team) fixtures – if there is no official referee, then the fixture must be played and
officiated by a registered club referee as prescribed in the club referee policy and league
championship rules.

Should an appointed Referee be unable to continue refereeing a Senior team fixture, the senior
appointed Referees Assistant should take over the fixture to completion. Should there be no
official appointed Referees Assistant available, then the fixture will be abandoned and the League
will determine outcome in accordance with the league championship rules.

yeh I see why now. he was a joke. gave a player a straight red coz he kicked the ball away on a free kick, correct me if im wrong but isn't that just a yellow? murray bridge equalized so he decided to blow the whistle to end the game even before the restart was taken, 10 minutes before the scheduled end of play. several other shocking decisions and lost total control of the game in the second half. shambolic performance and I think a replay would be worthy considering the terrible refereeing that completely ruined a game of football

You can't play that card after agreeing to play it in the first place.
A signature has the effect of "signing off" the message indicating that no more response follows. It is common practice for a signature to contain some brief information on the author of the message, but not in this case.

yeah we agreed to play 90 minutes of football coz we didn't drive 90 minutes from OTH to drive home coz a ref didn't show up. but the fact we only got 80 minutes coz the ref blew his whistle immediately after bridge equalized, n the rest of the shambolic decisions on top of that. terrible display. but hey its in the hands of the association n whatever they decide is how it will be... no matter how much gets spoke about it on here. if the rules say the game isn't official without an official ref then that's how it is. if the rules say the game was acceptable and official then that's how it is. I don't know. but I honestly believe the ref didn't give a level playing field n struggled to handle the intensity of pressure of an A grade game, he didn't have a clue

The club referee in question is arguably one of the most biased/worst club referees in the league. But, credit to him, he's been helping out for 400 years.
Given that he had refereed the Reserves fixture, you should have realised when agreeing on whether to go ahead in the A game, what you had got yourself in to.

The rules say the game shouldn't be played without an official ref. If you had rang SAASRa they would have probably said, go ahead if both team are happy with the club referee.
But, since it's in the rules and regulations, you probably have a case for disputing the result. I wouldn't have signed the match sheet.
And OTH isn't much further than a lot of other teams need to travel to Murray Bridge, so that playing card is redundant.

Either way, I would be pretty arsed about how everything has panned out. At least both teams didnt get any fingers up the bum this week, it was Hahndorfs turn.

I'd honestly have to say that in 15 years of senior football, you would have to be the biggestctwat I've come across.
Without being funny, I thought you were intellectually challenged - and thought fair play to you for having a crack.
I for one can't wait for the return fixture.

Intellectually challenged? What, the 2 goals Stu scored made you feel like that? Haha, great work mate.

Maybe you should sort out your own players before starting on others. Example, number 7 not shaking hands even after team mates saying to come and shake hands because that's not what one tree hill was about. You ever seen that in all your years? He is your captain?

Also, it was not our fault the official ref never showed and you were the ones that suggested for our club ref to take it. You signed the match sheets, stop complaining. In terms of the whistle blowing early, don't complain, we scored three in the final 20 mins. We were disappointed the whistle went more then OTH.

If there was an official ref today the game would have been kept under control a lot more. However, the result (draw) still would have been similar, based on chances. Also, most one tree hill people were in good spirits after the game, so most the shit in this forum feed about today is a load of shit to be honest, because 2 people from one tree hill want to complain.

All in all, it was a good game to be watched, couple players niggling from either team ( which is not unusual ) ...... Look forward to the away leg with an official ref and no complaints.

I'd laugh if one didn't show and Murray Bridge opted not to play.

That would not happen. We would have done the same thing as OTH and wanted to play. Thank you.

Hopefully the league can be organized for the second game. The worst part is the ref was at one tree hill before 1pm and was told the game was in Murray bridge at 3pm and he didn't come, which is a disgrace. Didn't even call to say or anything. 22 players warmed up for 3pm and were left waiting.

How can you appeal after your club people signed the team sheet? Maybe you should have had a word with them first? I honestly don't see what you will gain by appealing. And there was no way it was 15 mins. I didn't have a watch on, but somebody with a stopwatch on the sidelines told me we played at least 42 mins in the 2nd half.

Also in terms of the red, the equalizer was scored from the free kick, which the OTH player was sent off in between the foul and the free being taken (for shit) .There was no free play whatsoever with only 21 guys out there. Just to get the facts straight. Murray bridge did not benefit at all from a red card.

I'm not arguing with you. As if the ref turned up as he should have none of this would even be written. (Which neither team could control.) also, there were no bad calls by the ref which directly resulted in a goal to either side anyway, so I don't know what you're on about. As said before there were a couple players from either side sledging and niggling (which is normal ) and you weren't even one of these cantona7? I wasn't either. Stop trying to direct all blame at us when the circumstances were not desired by either team.

This is one of the oddest things Ive been involved in, the game was a really good game for the first 60 minutes? BUT then the ref (Sorry to say) changed the game. He was just not up to reffing a senior game, no one else put there hand up. I THOUGHT the guy was doing it until the official ref arrived but the ooficial ref didnt turn up, so surely the game will need to be replayed, As for shaking hands after the game I think you will find that a few guys were walking off and Im sorry to say because the Ref was just blatantly cheating by that stage and had lost control of the game BUT our CF then gave the wake up call and players shook hands. The Murray Bridge Captain seemed like a decent guy (and player) and so where the guys in the coaches box BUT to sit and watch what the Ref was doing and saying what can we do about it is very disapointing, you could tell him to stop cheating and maybe even look for someone else to do the job, at the end of the day we are all there to have a kick and enjoy the game its a pity that 1 person can change an outcome. Wether the result stands or not your club has been tarnished because of it and as I said earlier its a shame because most of the guys seemed like decent guys.

The answer to you getting a replay is a simple one.

Did someone from your club sign the team sheet?

If yes, then no replay. If no, then the game was not official and was played as a friendly.

Your captain should have been red carded for tripping me up as I went to celebrate our equalizer, so I think this evens up the red you guys got. You guys should be thankful you got away with a draw the winner wasn't far away! :D

sent off for a trip? sounds like a caution at most me.

Come on stu, assuming it's the same ref from a few years ago - he's got previous. I think he only sent off 2 of ours that day. A player got booked that day for and I quote "in case you swore". Later he got a second yellow for being pushed over

Off the ball incident where a player lashes out usually results in a red. Really it was common assault

In conclusion...
The game went ahead with the approval of OTH.
Referee could have been better but decisions were equally as poor for both teams.
OTH got sloppy, MB got a sniff and found some self belief.

The 2 free kicks that were given to lead to the final 2 goals were definite fouls.
The 2nd one which led to the red card was over the top but as the game was called
to an end after the free kick was converted from distance (fine strike might i add), this sending off
had no effect on the match.

I have an Adidas mIcoach in my boots which tracks everything including time and the game was called off with a maximum
of 3 minutes reminaing...
MB now had an extra man and were up and about, if anything OTH were LUCKY the whistle sounded when it did.
