how does crap like this happen???
So how old is he?
He is 17 this year. In the last decade they've only been caught about 5 times. Book should be thrown at those responsible.
Stop posting mischievous & inaccurate information as fact.
He is not 17

He is 15.....he is not 17 nor is he 16.

You are asking the wrong question in this instance.

By asking this particular question you have highlighted how a simple thing can cause an issue.

Asking the wrong question?

What question should I be asking then?

Well I thought it would've been a bit intrusive asking for the players DOB.

So are we playing you guys or Modbury??

Players born 1997 are U16 this season - cut-off date is 1.1.1998 to be eligible to play U15.

Yes you are correct and you have highlighted the issue......but you haven't answerd by question.

Eligability to play in a certain age group is not determined by age it is determined by the year of your birth

So in my example Player A is currently 15, however due to his year of birth should be playing in the U16's.

I am highlighting that a simple question when the player first registerd at another club is probably the real issue here. Could also be that someone made some error in that registration process and it just wasnt picked up until recently.

I think this paints a completely different picture to some posters suggesting there has been delibate cheating by a ceratin club.

As far as I know West Adelaide are playing White City

So you know the players age yet you're not involved with White City? Fair enough then.

I'm hearing both Modbury & White City.

Well, methinks the competition rules regarding age groups are fairly clear and haven't changed in years. Any club official responsible in nominating teams should certainly be aware of these rules.
However you wriggle it - there is no excuse.

I dont need to be from WC to know his age. I could be from his previous club, I could be a friend of his or I could be someone in the know outside of WC.

I'm hearing WC.

There is no excuse for deliberate cheating. However that is not the case in this instance.

Clubs aren't perfect and are not run by full time professionals. It is naive to think they will get the process right 100% of the time every time.
Mistakes will be made some deliberate some by innocent errors, it is the deliberate cheating the FFSA should be concerned about.

Is a deliberate mistake not cheating?

Its one or the other. Its either deliberate or its a mistake.

Innocent errors are mistakes without the pre meditated intention to decive or cheat.

A deliberate mistake it deliberate full stop. The outcome is that you are intending to cheat or deceive from the start.

Dont understand what point you are trying to make here?

Clubs are run by volunteers and these mistakes do happen from time to time. However I guess this sort of 'club error' in incorrectly registering a player's date of birth is something that the FFSA expects 'self registration' will correct. After all if the player is being registered on-line by their parent, then there can be no mistake about the year their child was born.

Unfortunately, this is an idealist view, because so many new players being registered are coming from non-English speaking backgrounds and parents can hardly be expected to navigate their way through the My Football website to register their child to play football if they don't even speak the language.

But every year there is controversy with Man United Cup and FFSA JPL Cup finals and the fielding of ineligible players. The rules are for all to see on the FFSA website, and the FFSA always distribute to clubs well before these competition begins.

There should be very clear warnings given to clubs who have teams in the finals - play an ineligible player then be prepared to bear the consequences of a fine and disqualification. No excuses. Officials should check and double check their playing lists. It's as simple as that.
