So heres a question;

If there is a group that only one goes through, and two teams finish equal top, with the exact same goal difference, what happens, who goes through?

group 4 has this exact situation if all teams draw on the final day, white city and birkalla would have equal points with the exact same GD.

Manchester Cup 2013

Determining Final Placing

If two or more teams share the same match points in the group, then the team with the
superior goal difference will be determined as the higher placed team.

In the event match points and goal difference is identical, then the team that has scored
more goals will proceed as the higher placed team.

If there are two teams that are equal (i.e. same points, identical goal difference & goals scored),
the FFSA will look at each teams head-to-head results to determine the teams final standing and/or
draw the teams out of the hat to decide which teams will progress.

This is something that is quite possible in group 4, if both games end in an exact draw, the top place will be decided by a hat draw? the fair result would be a playoff with the best placed 2nd team from group 3/5 to be sure the best team goes through.

Happens at the World Cup in the group stages so dont think it happening at the Man City cup is a big deal.

can't recall which world cup that was in where two teams finished on identical everything and then the head to head was also a draw and then one team went through on a lucky dip. I assume very rare and lets hope for the kids that it doesnt get to that.

Turkey eliminated Spain in a 1954 playoff for a place in finals after a 2-2 draw and then a flip of the coin saw Turkey go through.

Rarely happens but there has to be a rule if it does.

Maybe a penalty shot out would be better than a coin toss

Bit hard if the other team in the group stage isn't there - hence the name out of a hat.

Strange feel about the comp this year;

Adelaide City out, in a group of teams from lower leagues and or teams that struggled last year.
ParaHills finished 2nd last year in the As, scored one goal and could not compete.
MetroStars could only manage one win vs the bottom team.

What are other peoples feel on the comp so far? Any stand out sides? shocks?

West Adelaide look good as expected, but have played only B&C teams so vs Campbelltown they might get a wake up call, after such an easy stroll to the quarters.

i think the 20 min halfs
make it hard , as if you score early , then defend like mad, those who play from out the back , then struggle from this . should be a proper game . players can last 20 easy today . as its like a futsal game , with 11 players . only a opionion

Pretty sure it's been 20 minute halves for several years. Problem is one that we've had for a few years, not going to go there but will mention the lack of goals from some teams.

Not sure if many are aware of this but the current NTC side playing in the U18 comp would have been age eligible to have completed in this years Manchester cup. Not saying that it should have happened just noting that these players would have eligible :)
