Re: Liverpool 2012/13
He's gone back on loan to Dortmund. I was a fan of him but there is no point in him wasting away on the bench. Best of luck to him though. Hope he can help Dortmund catch Munich.

So you guys cancelled his loan then ? Was there any reason given ?
I guess with Shelvey, Lucas, and Henderson will benefit more from the playing time in the long term.

Lucas shouldn't be anywhere near that category. He's one of the first names on our team sheet when he's fit.Litmanen wrote:totsreds08 wrote:He's gone back on loan to Dortmund. I haven't read anything that's given an explanation why but BR has said that he is a very classy player.Litmanen wrote:totsreds08 wrote:He's gone back on loan to Dortmund. I meant more because of his long lay off.
Re: Liverpool 2012/13
Played like cowards in the 1st, despite better stuff in the 2nd deserved the loss.
Only positive is Sturridge, Suarez and Borini looks like a combo that will click.

Allen starting ahead of Henderson at the present is borderline retarded.

The fact you have Allan, Henderson and Downing as players fighting n starting in your 11 is the retarded bit. Was impressed with the way the scum moved the ball around. United shoulda been 3 nil up at half time, n not putting them away in the first half made it a nervy second half.BowTiesAreCool wrote:Allen starting ahead of Henderson at the present is borderline retarded.
Btw Howard Webb is not a red. I thought liverpool got most of the decisions today
Rvp n that buildup for the first goal was class. Kagawa is so creative n calm on the ball....

Liverpool need a keeper with better foot skills if they are going to try and play out of the back, and Skrtel needs to be replaced with a proper ball playing Centre back too. Allen looked crap but it was because the ball was being moved on quick enough, so his passing options were very few. Lucas did nothing but foul.
I think Wisdom will be a good player in years to come though, he had alot of fight, but he's a bit immature.
Welbeck, or as i call him, Fernando Welbeck, was very wasteful as usual, and Sturridge while lively, still does the same things he used to do at Chelsea, shooting into the side netting instead of looking for a cutback, hopefully that gets coached out of him.
Cleverely and Carrick dominated the midfield for most of the game, Liverpool pressed with their fullbacks and united played long balls into those areas for their quicker players, i was actually surprised Liverpool didn't change to a 352 ( although i think they did towards the end, it's hard to tell), i think that formation really stretches teams like united, and Liverpool lose the ball too much in their final third, so with an extra man in the middle it forces United too far wide.
Liverpool looked better when they played direct.
Re: Liverpool 2012/13
You don’t lead with you need a keeper with better foot skills if you want people to take you seriously.
Fault Reina in other ways fine, but there aren’t many better with the ball at his feet than Reina.
Difficulty playing out more to do with high press rather than personnel.

Ok well maybe it's not his foot skills as much as his decision making, if you watch him in the first 20, he held the ball too long, which dried up alot of options, and then ended up just pumping it up to the human juggernaut which is Suarez, who was against the tiny Vidic, and even shorter Rio Ferdinand.
If you're gonna get your keeper to play it out the back, give him a backup option that isn't turning the ball over.
Skrtel makes things worse too, Agger is 10 times the player he is.
Re: Liverpool 2012/13
I'd say that's very good planning and preparation by United.
They telegraph’d most outlet passes. Knew that we like to play out the back straight to Lucas and Allen and RVP was working his socks off to stop that. Only allowed to play out to wide areas to a centre back then pressed the next pass up the line.
Once again, not sure it’s a Reina issue.
But I agree was lack of a plan B playing it out was a problem like the team selection. A manager who changes tactics right and makes the right substitutions is usually a mask for they got the run-on team wrong, which is a bigger problem.

Re: Liverpool 2012/13
He almost needed an extra deep man if you're going to play it out the back. If he went to a 4231 that would have been the best quick fix IMO.The Kop wrote:I'd say that's very good planning and preparation by United.

Still i guess it's admirable to try and play your style.

I just don't think your midfield is good enough offensively against the top teams. It's functional, rather than incisive, and looked a lot better when Suarez dropped deeper and played almost as a midfielder.
It would be interesting to see if Rodgers has the balls to play Borini and Sturridge up top, with Suarez in behind them, on a regular basis.

100% right. There's no link man in the midfield and no one running ahead of the ball to create passing options closer to goals.Nice One Cyril wrote:He's a plastic Chelsea fan, why would anyone take him seriously. The Kop wrote:You don’t lead with you need a keeper with better foot skills if you want people to take you seriously.

Lucas, Allen and Gerrard all like to back up the play and play from behind the ball. Think you can have max 2, perhaps only 1 of these players. Personally I’d have Lucas only, it’s his jopb to be at the pivot. The other two beside him should be more advanced.
But dunno if that’s instructions from the manager of incompetence from the players. I’d say it was instructions, second half had a higher line, midfield took positions in Utd’s half rather than infront of own 18 yard box. Clear adjustment, but like I said changing things for the better shows it was f*cked up the first time round!

Didn't Liverpool bring in Rodgers so they could play like Swansea?
RVP does his thing while Suarez does nothing (again) in Liverpool's 2nd biggest game of the season.
I wish we took all our chances. I was happy with a draw before kickoff, but Liverpool really is shit

Sorry mate, but the Reina comment is ridiculous. Aside from Valdes, there really isn't a 'keeper out there that is better on the ball than Reina.Litmanen wrote:

Re: Liverpool 2012/13
Joe Allen is going through a bit of a rough patch and he should lose his spot IMO but BR has other ideas. Agree with bowties about hendo starting. The front 3 looked good last night with borini, sturidge, Suarez so hopefully they gel together. It was good to see another good attacker for us. Not a good perfomance and didn't really deserve much from that match.

I did re-word it.
Having said that i'd say off the top of my head that Vorm and Scznesny are as good if not better with their feet, it's more his decision making, but as someone else said, that could simply be just tactical frailties.

Reina was poor distrubing the ball i thought, especially with his clearances
doesnt look the keeper he looked like 2 - 3 yrs ago

He had an average game in terms of distribution. This is to United's credit though, off the ball United pressed us really well.Le King wrote:BowTiesAreCool wrote:Sorry mate, but the Reina comment is ridiculous. Sahin is a gun, big loss and was not utilised well
Last night Rodgers learnt more from a loss that he would have with a win with his developing side
Borini back will help, as will having sturridge to help Suarez

Re: Liverpool 2012/13
Sahin wasn’t fit.
But he was a gamble worth taking.
Didn’t make sense to get him match-fit after a long-injury lay-off and not have an agreed deal locked in.
Effectively pay to get him fit and shop-window him for Real, not a good deal.

nothing better

Borini needs to work on his first touch, it's really average. That said, the movement and pace up top with these three in the side could cause a lot of teams problems.DOC wrote:Borini back will help, as will having sturridge to help Suarez

Re: Liverpool 2012/13
Proper attacking options.....we are thin to say the least.
Kagawa, RVP, Welbeck, Young, Nani, Hernandez, Rooney, Valencia, Giggs
VS.
Gerrard (playing too deep), Suarez, Sterling, and now Sturridge & Borini (thank God)
We need another 2-3 players up top....at least.
Also a left sided defender.
That would probably be the absolute minimum if we're thinking of being serious again. Letting go of Kuyt and Maxi was a big mistake.
