The "Dream Team" saw Atletico Madrid's Colombia striker Radamel Falcao the only player to play for another club selected as La Liga made a clean sweep.
Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas made it despite being recently dropped by his club, marshalling a defence comprising Dani Alves and Gerard Pique (Barcelona) and Marcelo and Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid).
Barcelona and Spain pair Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta were selected in midfield along with Real Madrid strongman Xabi Alonso, with Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Falcao in a three-pronged attack
With Barca and Real dominant as usual and Athletico winning the Europa league can they be far away from staking a claim as the top league in the world?
A team is more than the sum of its parts - proof is how Chelsea managed to win the Champions League and overcome sides such as Barcelona and Munich which on paper should have had them on toast.
I agree with NT - EPL is better because of the drama and its pace and not stop frenetic activity - something you get rarely on the continent.
Considering ESPN cut all La Liga this season, in what position are we on this forum in to make judgement?
Streaming religiously weeking in week out are we?
With what degree of certainty are the bottom sides in La Liga worse than the bottom in EPL? Cos Vallacano won on the final day to lift out of relegation zone and Michu doesn't seem half bad does he? Athletic Club that taught a lesson to Man Utd sailed aimlessly into mid-table.
Not saying either is better or not, but it's funny watching the posts diminishing La Liga.
Seriously, who would you guys pick these players over?

The World XI is a joke. Pirlo, Ibra, Cavani, Yaya Toure, Silva, Thiago Silva, Van Persie just to name a few not good enough?

No RVP?
Hmm.
Xabi Alonso/Xavi/Iniesta? Messi/Ronaldo/Falcao? They're the competition for those players you've named... I've never seen Falcao play, but the others? You'd seriously pick Ibra and van Persie over either Messi or Ronaldo? Or Pirlo (at his current age; still amazing, but he's not what he used to be) over Xavi or Iniesta?
(Mind you, I'll always laugh at Sergio Ramos getting picked. The bloke's got far too little self-control...)
Litmanen wrote:EDIT: Pirlo is above alonso, so who it must be bs unless alonso is playing CDM and Pirlo isn't.
Yeah, interesting that. I would imagine that Pirlo is competing with Xavi/Iniesta for a spot, whilst Alonso's nearest competition is Yaya Toure and Busquets.
The front 3 and Xavi and Iniesta are fine, but I would definitely have Pirlo in there over Alonso.
The defence is laughable. Kompany captaining Man City to their first title in how long and performing like a beast for the whole season and doesn't get in there? Juve with one of the tightest defences in all of Europe (20 goals conceded in the league all of last season and only 13 so far this season) and win the league undefeated and no Chiellini or even Barzagli?
Buffon could replace Casillas, but not too much difference between those two. You can sense a bit of my Juve bias here but anyone that watched any Serie A last year will agree with me that these players have a strong case to be included.
That list is just for the World player of the year. Not the team.
The fact there is so many people listed highlights the lack of idea many people have IMO.
If some asked you who the top player this year was as if anyone in their right mind would pick half of those player? Balotelli? Neymar? Busquets? I'm not saying these guys aren't good its just they aren't even close to getting to Messi, Ronaldo and the rest of the top 5.
If the EPL is so good why aren't Tottenham, Liverpool and Newcastle cruising through the Europa? Man Shitty knocked out of the UCL by Ajax? Man Utd going out last season. Chelsea bombing out first round.
I feel European football is far more closer then it is made out.
I would not be surprised if you took any side from either La Liga, EPL, Bundesliga or Serie A and put them in anyother of those leagues their results and league position would be similar once they adapted to the conditions and style of play of that league.
Don't know how true it is but I read somewhere Thiago Silva was quoted saying he voted for Ronaldo but when he looked at the votes it said he voted for Messi.

I agree with half of that.
The selected attacking players in the World XI I'd agree with. The defenders chosen were a joke. Pique? Alves? Seriously? The reason why Barcelona didn't win the title was because they shipped way too many goals.
With what level of confidence are the end factors in La Liga more intense than the end in EPL? Cos Vallacano won on the ultimate day to raise out of relegation area and Michu doesn't seem 50 percent bad does he? Fitness Team that trained a class to Man Utd traveled the world haphazardly into mid-table.
