Big Bash will it last?

Post by ozzie owl »

Lost CA $10m last year.

Crowds down 40 per cent this year.

TV ratings down 30 per cent.

Will it last and is the novelty wearing off?

Even the Indian one is going broke. I think the ICC need to set down 3 seperate months of the year when 20/20 competitions can be played. No internationals occur during this time. If your competition runs for 6 weeks, then you miss internationals for 2 weeks.

I like watching the BBL on TV but not that interested in going. The crowd in Hobart looked good.

crowd was 11000 last night, most people that go watch the game as there is always something happening, but our top stars are not playing which is killing the marketing of it, its slowly becoming just another form of cricket rather than a novelty factor, even international teams are picking players solely for t20 skills and players are turning into odi and t20 professionals and not having the need to play test cricket if their game doesn't suit it, like tait and pollard for example, oram has done the same now

what is has done is given aging stars like brag young, hoggy, warney, lee, etc a new lease of life and a chance to continue their careers for a couple of years

I went to the Thunder vs Strikers game at ANZ Stadium last week....6-8 were there in an 80k seater stadium....not a good look.

Introducing 2 teams in a franchise league from the same city does not work. Etihad only had 8k on Saturday for the Renegades match which clashed with the Melbourne derby....stupid scheduling. Adelaide generally get decent crowds as do Perth. But I think for the likes of Sydney and Melbourne it won't be as successful in the bigger cities.

i think the buzz has worn off and its settled into a legitimate form of the game, no circus atmosphere, its brought about new tactics and given players a different path if they are not the conventional test player

2 teams from Sydney and Melbourne is fine but it needs to be divided into something like North Melbourne vs South Melbourne and West Sydney (Thunder) vs another Sydney side....

Canberra anyone?
