New Rule for 07?

Post by sparts »

I heard a rumour during the week that if a player plays up he cannot play back down again on the same weekend...Has anyone else heard this?

but hasnt that always been in the SASF and FFSA rules? I know we at West Adelaide (former Olympic) knew about that, its no new issue at all.

should be in the rules i think, stops clubs playing kids on friday nights to strengthen a team for a catch up match for example and then a kid misses out for that kid to play on sunday.

i heard that there it is allowed for u17-19 players only but substitute players.

well ive been away from federation for a few years and have stepped back in as a coach and i was unaware of it. i dont think that it is that great a rule as we should be promoting the kids to play as high as possible so if lads in the 17s play in the 19s on sat it could mean they cant then play for 'their' team on sunday in the 17s

That rule is crap because if a player isn't in form and needs to have some game time and they are under age it is perfectly fine.

true sparts, but i think the rule has been put in place to stop clubs dropping u/19s that have played 19s all year down to the u/17s for important games against the harder teams. good rule in one way, bad in another. guess we will see how it works this year.

A Memo from FFSA reads as follows;

23.3 - Clubs may call players to play in a higher division or age group. However, once a player has played in that higher division or age group on any weekend, he or she shall become ineligible to play in a lower division or age group for his club on that same weekend.

The FFSA will have one exception to this rule.

Players who are named on the substitutes list on a team sheet for Under 19 matches on Saturdays, and who are age eligible for Under 17s, will be allowed to play Under 17s on Sundays.

Players who are named on the starting eleven list on team sheets for Under 19 matches on Saturdays, and who are age eligible for Under 17s, will not be allowed to play Under 17s on Sundays.

The FFSA recognises that during the season clubs may promote players from Under 17s to Under 19s for player development.

The FFSA strongly encourages clubs to dual register players for both divisions if they are age eligible.

It makes sense if you ask me.

There was a game last season where the Under 12B team was suddenly assisted by new players arriving after start time that were already dirty from playing a previous game. The Under 12A team supplements had arrived.

Some of the B team players were taken off to make way for the better A team players. Pointless as the B team was already ahead.

The final result was around 10 - 0.

Some clubs are only out to win without thinking about developing the B or C team players.

Excellent rule change....was always amazed that you could have a child play 13's in the morning and then 12's in the afternoon....meaning some kids have to sit on the bench while others play 2 full games.

I do not know any other sport that this is allowed to happen in!

I don't think this rule applies to under 12's and 13's, it just applies to 17's or any junior going to the senior comp on Saturday!
Junior's don't have a rule change regarding player movements as far as I know!

Hey Nova,

You're probably right. At a Coaches meeting a couple of weeks ago, we (I guess) assumed that it applies across all ages and they were only using 17's & 19's as an example. It should be confirmed - I'll see what I can find out.

I hate to mis-lead my fellow forumites.

I have checked with FFSA and this rule apparently applies to all age groups so teams will need to be aware in all divisions
