STATEMENT ON ROBERTO DI MATTEO

Posted on: Wed 21 Nov 2012
Chelsea Football Club has parted company this morning with Manager Roberto Di Matteo.

The team's recent performances and results have not been good enough and the owner and the Board felt that a change was necessary now to keep the club moving in the right direction as we head into a vitally important part of the season.

The club faces a difficult task ahead in qualifying for the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League as well as maintaining a strong challenge for the top of the Premier League while competing in three other cup competitions. Our aim is to remain as competitive as possible and challenge strongly on all fronts.

The owner and the Board would like to thank Roberto for all he has done for the club since taking over in March. Roberto helped guide us to an historic Champions League victory and a seventh FA Cup. We will never forget the huge contribution he has made to this club's history and he will always be welcome at Stamford Bridge.

The club will be making an announcement shortly regarding a new first team manager.
Word on the street is that we're getting Rafa. If he can't work Torres out then he might as well retire

Also FFS.

Nice payday for RDM for doing very little. Where can one get a job like that?

Hate to say "I told you so", but I told you so

8 years 9 managers, what a joke we've become. I think we've conceded that Torres is a lost cause, I have no doubt it'll be Pep, he won't need to do much aside from bring in strikers that score goals and maybe sure up the backline. Torres phased out, probably sold.

You always knew RDM was rubbish didn't you? You were just playing us along pretending to think he was a genius

Roman never wanted RDM. Offered a one year deal after he wins the Champions League in his 3 months in charge? Roman wanted that 'big name, been there done that' established manager from day 1 but can you imagine what would've happened had RDM not been given the job? Abramovic felt like he basically had to give RDM 2 years, now he's found the tiniest of excuses and a little window in which he thinks he can bring in someone like Pep and he's gone for it. Jumped the gun way, way, way early.

Chelsea’s last eight managers give Roberto Di Matteo their advice in his difficult time

Claudio Ranieri: As a fellow Italian, I can assure you everything will be fine, Roberto. You'll go to Spain for a season, bounce around Italy for a while and then end up in Monaco. And I'll tell you right now this place is sick. They have all kinds of parties and stuff. It's like living in a James Bond film, but one that includes a Ligue 2 football club. Anyway, don't worry about anything.

Jose Mourinho: Roberto. I am sorry you are having trouble managing my Chelsea, but what can I say? I expected this. Even though I was not there, I led you and the players to the club's first Champions League title using my methods and no one said, "Thank you, Jose. You are a genius and you smell like candy." So this year, I do no help. But don't worry, Roberto. If Pep Guardiola replaces you I will torment him until he is reduced to a blogging shell of his former self like Rafa Benitez when he tried to follow me at Inter. You're welcome.

Avram Grant: If Chelsea sack you, so what? I'm standing in the rain at the top of the Serbian SuperLiga now. Whatever.

Phil Scolari: You're probably thinking that if Chelsea sack you, you'll never be with a club that big again. So what? After Chelsea I went to Bunyodkor. Do you have any idea where that is? Neither do I. But look at how much fun I had at this wedding while I was there... (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pnt3GknckEI) That's right. They had lasers, dancing and I got to wear a hat like a boss. Life is the best.

Ray Wilkins (caretaker manager): Stay on your feet.

Guus Hiddink: I wasn't sacked, Roberto, but I can tell you that there is always another club out there with absurdly rich owner. Remember that.

Carlo Ancelotti: LOL. What he said. I got sacked for winning a double for Abramovich, but I'm not upset about it because I got a bucket of money out of it and the bread in Paris is like baked orgasms. Seriously. I'm not exaggerating at all. Also, you have no idea how amazing it is to have Zlatan Ibrahimovic instead of Torres. No. Idea.

Andre Villas-Boas: F*** you, Roberto. That was supposed to be me winning the Champions League with Chelsea last season. But no. Now everyone thinks I'm an idiot and I can't even use a freaking notebook without getting mocked for it. So I hate you. And Fernando Torres. And yes, those weird phone calls you get in the middle of the night where it's just someone crying are from me. Deal with it.

Apart from the short term wage cheques, who would want to work for someone like Roman? Talk about cry baby, albeit a rich cry baby.

I just want us to keep a manager... you know.. for a season or twenty.

What a crazy world when Mark hughes is still managing QPR while Redknapp, Di Matteo and Benitez are unemployed

I hope Benitez stays in the unemployed category for the time being. Last thing I want to see is him managing your mob.

It's funny because i never liked Rafa.

Then i realised he signed, Torres, Masch, Agger, Alonso, Garcia, and Reina.

and then i think... Holy shit that's pretty much the only good players Liverpool have purchased except Suarez.

I honestly think he would struggle to manage Chelsea with the Mourinho squad, but our current squad he might actually do well with.

ps: I'm still pissed off though

geez, bit harsh!!! Lose to Juve and that's that. At least give him a chance in the EPL, they are well in with a chance to win the league! Chelsea fast becoming a shambles, more managers in the past few years than women tiger woods has slept with

That's the thing, despite all the criticism he got for signing duds, he did what he could with the limited funds he had. He signed some truly world class players, despite those limits. If you got him, and gave him some time to assemble his own squad, the rest of us need to be worried.

That said, I can't see Roman as the type to give him the time he would need to shape the squad his way.

Exactly. I'm just hoping that most of the high profile managers would knock back the offer for that very reason.

That said, I think Benitez would jump at the chance.

This is what will happen in my opinion, Rafa will get he job short term, and then Pep and Jose will be asked at the end of the season.

Jose has always said that he is a "london blue" and that he wants to come back to England.

I think Pep will want to succeed Fergie.

Apparently Chelsea have spent £86m since 2004 in compensation for managers, more than Everton's entire net spend since the Premier League began.

Then Benitez gets fired.

We'll have Mancini by the end of the week.
