another question re coaches

Post by gl1968 »

if you had say some extra cash would it be wise to get the best coaches to teach 8/9/10 or is best spent at the older age groups 14/15/16 i have always thought teaching them young make them easier to understand different aspect of the game at the older ages

To grow Australian football more effectively, you need the best Coaches from day 1. Won't happen in my lifetime. :(

What you need is coaches who specialise in specific age groups and understand their learning processes.

Get the best available junior football technical director to overlook all the juniors for at least 3 years.

enzo, only 3 years? while i have to agree with on the TD appointment, the coaches working under him must also be open minded and willing to learn and not be only stuck in the "this is what i know mode"

Which clubs have a junior technical director and who are they?
Who is it at Birkalla Enzo?
I agree it is an important position, but will only work if all the coaches pulling in the same direction.

+1

Quite a few clubs have a "TD" but very few have ones that do it properly. I think Metro and Raiders have reasonable TDs.

As early as 4 years of age- 10hrs a week at home will teach them plenty. Private practice early with a willing parent will go a long way. When you as a parent are responsible , you is who the child will listen to early and admire as his/her super parent. One on One with parent and child is priceless.
Once you have done your bit, put them into a private academy.

Club is to showcase kids ability, team work and social skills.

Goodluck, enjoy the stress it comes with.

Why a private academy?
Unless of course you run one!

I wouldn't and never sent my lad to a private academy
I looked for a club with a great coaching set up and seen what they
could do to develop him.
And by develop, I mean develop his skills and positional knowledge
not take him because he was half decent and it would help them win the league!
The young boys said unto him....."go up baldhead, go up"......so he did, rose like a salmon and nodded the ball into the net......1 nil! :-)

Fellas, some interesting opinions here. I have come around eventually to be a strong advocate for the 10,000 quality hours theory.

So money for coaches who provide a portion of these hours works for me, as does one on one father -son, brother -brother, games at school/in the neighborhood, academies etc etc etc.

But one thing, if you don't achieve those hours, you wont be at a level suited to strong competition.

If u can afford more then 3 years for a good one would be great have a TD part of the club structure
And like u say the coaches & TD must be working together or it's pointless having one.
