Re: Why wasn' the roof shut for the Poland v England game?
the greatest moment when u set the alarm and wake up from the sweat dream just to watch the game then u realise the game has been postponed
Re: Why wasn' the roof shut for the Poland v England game?
I read it can't be closed in high wind or rain - correct me if I'm wrong somebody.
Which begs the question why there is a roof in the first place if it can't do why it is supposed to.

It looks like things in Poland haven't improved much since the Communist era.

Re: Why wasn' the roof shut for the Poland v England game?
Thats right, it cant be closed during freezing conditions, whilst its wet or high wind. The roof was open as it was a previous decision and wasnt allowed to be closed until the FIFA official was there which by then it was wet. Had it been decided to be played with a closed roof during the week they could have closed it before it became wet and been alright, its just the actual closing cant be done once wet.Juventino wrote:I read it can't be closed in high wind or rain - correct me if I'm wrong somebody.

Its a materialish roof not a solid one like Etihad

Re: Why wasn' the roof shut for the Poland v England game?
According to a report on ESPN or the Guardian web site, closing the roof in wet conditions voids the warranty. Apparently.

Apparently Croydon's bar can't be opened if the temperature is above 30 degrees, must be a Polish thing

Re: Why wasn' the roof shut for the Poland v England game?
the teams both wanted to play without the roof...so did the FIFA officials, nobody bothered to monitor the weather forecast and before anyone realised the pitch was fked....
btw- the contractor who built the stadium has come out to deny any situation where the roof cant be closed (except rare extremes)
the roof can be opened or closed anytime if its just windy or raining - i think some blame shifting has been done here by the Polish FA officials to save some face...
anyway it's on 17.00 local time Wednesday ... 01.30 Thursday Adelaide time.

agree... i think england might have a fight on their hands to get out of the group after seeing that...Bomber wrote:Lucky England, but a point against them not the worst result.
very pleased with Poland showing some good signs finally... Glik and Grosicki .. watch out for them... they will get picked up by some bigger clubs soon...

The rain doesn't bother me, but the ref called the game off. No whingeing I'm laughing - a roof that can't be closed if it's raining

it's OK, we can't close our roof when it's raining either!
Maybe you couldn't close it because all your workers have packed up and moved to England.

Re: Why wasn' the roof shut for the Poland v England game?
Just back from Poland. Left home at 3.45am on Tuesday morning. Flew to Munich and had to wait 2 hours for a connecting flight. Got to Warsaw, cab to hotel. Then we had to trawl across the Town to pick my ticket at some poncey 5 star hotel that the FA were based with my fucking membership money. Very similar to the Leeds service station bollocks but a bit further. So glad to see they don't do things on the cheap. Got to an 'Irish' bar where we met a few other Millwall fans. Then the skies opened. I honestly haven't seen rain like it. It didn't ease up one bit and never fucking stopped. Got to the ground nice and early and very very wet. Waited like a prick for the obvious postponement of the game. Back to the rain and to a hotel for a drink. Today we had an option of watching the game and getting a flight back to Manchester for £150, then a coach to Gatwick. Our car was at Heathrow. We conceded defeat on this one and took our original flights back. Flew back via a 3 hour stop in Zurich where a bottle of lager and 2 diet cokes cost me £19.50. Got home just in time to see the rather shit match highlight's on ITV. I feel as if I am still wet through. WHATS THE POINT OF HAVING A FUCKING ROOF IF YOU DONT USE WHEN ITS RAINS. Every Pole that comes to England is given a roof over his fucking head. The least they could do was return the favour. Wet, cold, skint, tired, pissed off, angry. Will it stop me going to watch my club or country.
WILL IT FUCK
up the Lions, be it the roaring Millwall one or the 3 of England

Calm down pommy.
Both teams trained under an open roof, and the game had to be played that way (fifa regulations). For them to play under a closed roof would require both teams to have at least one training session in those conditions on that pitch. The decision not to close the roof fell to the Slovenian FIFA rep who refused it to be closed as it would be in breach of the stupid fifa fair play crap.
