Re: Lady Reds
I think it looks like a good side with a nice level of experience. I'm optimistic. We might not beat Sydney, but should have a few in the win column. Hope everyone's noticed that Melbourne just named a coach, and hasn't announced their side yet. Sydney just announced the side on Thursday (although with 8 Matildas they could announce it the day before the first game and still be hard to beat). In relation to some other teams in the comp we're not doing badly. And thanks for the posts, Retired.

Re: Lady Reds
Juniorsupporter - I am also optimistic about this season (however I say that ever year), but I think the level of experience is low. The team seems so young to me. This could be a good thing in regards to fitness, but perhaps not for individuality and creativity.
I find that each year we really suffer with creativity and fitness, particularly up front. If that isn't the case this year, we should expect more goals and hopefully more wins.
It is a positive sign that the New Zealanders have stayed, among other players, for consistency and so that the team gelling won't be as big of an issue.
Does anyone know the general positions of each player?

Lots of fresh faces (12/20 are new). I think it's a good thing to have some fresh faces in the side and move on players who haven't progressed much over the last few seasons.
I can't see them making the finals this season but should be an improved unit.
Western Sydney have a strong side and will test the Lady Reds first up

Congratulations to all the players. Well done. Proud achievement no doubt for each of you to have made the team.
Well done and good luck to the season ahead

1 of 2 Stayed , we have 2 new players from N.Z.
Alex Natoli - Melbourne
Jessi Whorepouri - NSW
Ann Mayo - NSW
Lorena Maggio - QLD[/quote]
4 interstate players , good luck to them , seems the hardest place to come from is Adelaide ...
4 players in the starting 11
Great effort by all the girls who made the trip to Burton 4 times a week for 2-3 months , and be sure to come out again next year to make the training numbers up... you never know your luck.

So your saying they should get in just because they came to trainings 4 times a week, doesnt matter that they are not quite ready to play at that level yet...
As some one said this is not a development squad this is the real deal....This is the top level in Australia...
Do you want to have a team that gets beat everyweek or a team that is competative.

Re: Lady Reds
Bagman. You have some sense behind your posts.
Retrired, be objective coz when your loved opne is faced with being on the outer you will be on here spewing. Guaranteed. As they say...its won't happen overnight but it will happen. Its indemic in the women's game. They do not have a great track record of fostering real talent and looking after players.

Some of the girls selected again have shown by recent years performance's that they are not ready ( perhaps not good enough ) and have been selected again ...
time for them to perform !
The gold passes should have run out with the amount of non S.A. selected this year

Re: Lady Reds
almost that time of the year...when the forumites start asking hard to answer questions....And the FFSA awakens to the sound of the email Bing that signals a message from FFA asking "Please proivide details of the coaching staff and players for the Lady Reds by close of business 30 August 2013".
The response from the FFSA is simple. Run and hide...delete the message....put the "Gone fishing" sign up.
