FFSA AWARDS

Post by terminator »

Geoff Hargreaves winning coach of the year from Fulham.

Any FFSA influence in this decision?

Fulham finished 4th by a bucket load of points and made the semi of the cup but he wins the coach of the year?

If I were the Uni or City coach I would be a little peed off.

Wasn't much of an improvement in where they finished last year Fulham in what was arguably a harder comp last season with a couple more tougher teams than this year - there were some real mickey mouse teams in the league this year.

Just find this very surprising.

Think you will find the decision was voted by all the coaches. So can't see an FFSA consiperacy there. I agree was a shock thought edwardo after loosing so many players would be close. Ask the coaches they are the ones who voted for it

Geoff Hargreaves works for FFSA - Awards and votes collected by FFSA.

Yes votes done by coaches but who sees or collects votes?

Very interesting - FFSA trying to make a point perhaps and push the Fulham model?

congratulations to Tiegan Wilkinson from South Adelaide on her award win. She has shown commitment to South by being the first female to play 100 senior games for their women's senior team.

Well done Tiegan, congratulations from all the Pink Panthers. Your commitment and loyalty to the club is inspirational and sets a great example and target for our junior girls. You now have lots of young ‘Lady Panthers’ wanting their name up next to yours.

Terminator, it clearly hasn't occurred to you that perhaps the other Prems coaches, who did choose the winner, might just know a little more about what they're watching than the rest of us?

And I think it might be a bit easier to win a cup when a significant portion of the League's best talent walks through your door at the beginning of the season.

Lastly, while I am always impressed at the consistency of Edoardo's results, Fulham did beat them in their last meeting. Although that award isn't, or shouldn't be, solely about results.

It's easy to claim a conspiracy when you don't agree with an outcome- I don't think one like that would stay secret for long. Not to mention that you're insulting the integrity of some very hard working and honest people.

Just putting it out there that it was very surprising for a team that came 4th by 14 pts that its coach gets coach of the year especially after the improvement from last season wasn't much if any in terms of table position.

Speaking of teams with quality I believe Fulham has at least 7 or 8 girls trialing for the W league?

Obviously not all going to make it but that tells me Fulham has its own quality don't u think - so why the 4th place position and a coach of the year from a team that has so many trialing for the W League?

Or is that the FFSA influence again - be interesting to know what numbers the top 3 teams had for W League trials compared to Fulham.

I'm not sure that trialling for WLeague is the best indicator (FFSA U15 squad had 5, Toros had 4 or 5) numbers making the squad perhaps might be a better discussion point.

Most of those Fulham girls were there before this year, though- more home grown in their starting 11 than Uni. Fulham has quality players, or they wouldn't have done as well as they did- it takes both talent and coaching, of course. Geoff worked more with what was already at the club.

Just to be clear, I think TJ is a great coach and it certainly is tempting for any player who wants to elevate their game to a higher level to go there and play for her. My earlier point was just that her job was made easier, not easy but easier, by a big influx of talent from other clubs. I think anyone would agree with that. .

Another possibility...
A couple of seasons back, as I understand it, without any conspiracy coaches 'preferred' not to vote for their 'direct rivals' but directed votes to a certain coach whose results were relatively poor. With enough votes being directed that way, each thinking no one else would vote the same there was a surprise winner of the coach award (well joint winner I think as I recall)
Who knows whether this year was really indicative of coaches views.
Can't see there being any FFSA conspiracy behind it IMO

Originally the appointment of GH as Assistant Coach (bench coach) to allow Coach Neits to concentrate on playing on match days along with MJ. The young Fulham team came a long way in 2011. Then Neits had the offer to join The Younghusband Football Academy/Chelsea FC Philippines School Clinics/ Loyola Meralco Sparks Club Junior Development Officer, and to have another crack at Philippine National Team. So then GH was promoted to Senior Coach. Then MJ got the offer to go to Sweden.
So GH was then left in the position without the clubs most senior players. So GH had to get the young players to take another step up. So the results achieved by GH with the young team has a lot of merit. Well done. They continue to play a good brand of football.

PS. Neits coaches an U/12 boys team Loyola Meralco Sparks who won a couple of cups, They are off to Singaspore to play in a Tournament (which includes a team from Football West) early November. This will be the end of her Philippine Experience. The combine made her a substantial offer to stay, but Neits is now looking to a career outside football. So young Meerkats you will have a fairly experienced bench in 2013.

Maybe Neits back to Fulham as senior coach?

Never said that - that was your conclusion - I just put the facts out and you came to that conclusion.

PS Has the FFSA never said something and gone back on its word - would that not be classed as lying?

If I am right the league structure was changed upteen times in pre-season to suit the FFSA - I would put nothing beyond them..

This is nonsense...I think most ppl would agree that the coaching award "should" have gone to others but what's that supposed to mean? GH did his job. Period. I think if you go and ask the other coaches they would tell you the same thing. Congratulations to Geoff.

Bit of difference between changing structures and rigging votes for awards, which is what you implied.

Congrats on the award Geoff, if this is the reception you're getting then just come back to mens football.

Surprised he got any votes.

FFSA employee IMO shouldn't be coaching a senior girls team - surely a conflict of interest.

Now hang on, how is it a conflict of interest? That statement presupposes that the clubs and FFSA always have conflicting interests. I don't believe that this is true and think that this is one of the problems facing women's football in SA because that myth has set up an artificially adversarial relationship between FFSA and the clubs.

Too often people assume that FFSA doesn't care about the clubs, which is rubbish. Sometimes, however, what's good for the progress of the women's game in SA and what's good for an individual club are at odds- that's when FFSA might make a decision that doesn't please all the clubs, for the greater good of the women's game. And then some people see favoritism on the part of FFSA, which is also rubbish.

I don't think that having an FFSA employee coach a club team presents a conflict of interest. All of the FFSA/FFA resources and coaching courses are available to every coach in the league and they have equal opportunity to be really good coaches. So are the relationships that come with being an FFSA employee- they aren't all best friends just because they work together. ( is anyone?)

I think it's great for the women's game to have FFSA trained/employed people coaching. Nobody is talking trash about Tom Ballantyne (currently working on his A license I believe) at Sturt, are they? Could it be because they didn't win a game? But I say look out next year, there are players going to Sturt precisely because he coaches according to the national curriculum and is a full time professional. Sturt will have a much better season next year IMO.

This whole conflict of interest argument that people keep throwing out is not valid for several reasons. It assumes that the coaches run the clubs, which, in most cases, they don't.

Please explain how Geoff's role at the FFSA is a conflict of interest to his role at Fulham.

Again if I was in Geoffs boat and this is the reaction to his coaching in the womens game I'd just leave it and stick to the mens game, I know who would be at more loss.

OMG not the "conflict of interest" again....yawn!
The sky hasn't fallen with FFSA coaches at Premier League level
