I think you may have heard wrong.
I believe there will be an internal trial game at STIC during the long weekend. Squad will not be announced until some time after that.

OK - So it is probably quite frustrating for some of the players not knowing if they are going to make the final squad so close to the season start, but let's try to consider an alternative view to many of the current detractors;

Many of the current training squad (who are in effect still trialling) have been playing/training together for several months - surely a good thing.
Even the more recent additions have now been with the group for probably a month or more.
Having a larger training squad allows the coach some added flexibility in what he can do during training.
The coach has already probably made his mind up on the majority of the final squad. This internal trial game will allow him to decide on the last few spots while also giving the next generation of players at STIC the opportunity to see what they are aiming for.

I don't have 'rose tinted glasses' Sad Gal & Co, just trying to look for a few potential positives in amongst all the negativity there seems to be around this topic.

Yes Doc I agree. Unfortunately the people (some) on this forum don’t realise that it’s a poorly run operation that is doomed to failure AND as with SASI, will become extinct. And of course those who are there when this happens/happened will still have their jobs AND behind closed doors will blame the local clubs and lack of quality players for the demise.

Next time players have a long hard think about what the FFSA has done for you to help you make the leap to National representation.

I’m sure my comments will attract criticism (a la Sad Gal) however, its time you stoup following the leader blindly and demand answers on why this stupid situation happens annually.

I think, or at least I hope, that you may have missed a bit of sarcasm in Doc's post, Billy. Or maybe I'm just seeing what I want to see. :D

And when you talk about the FFSA helping players make the leap to national representation, which players are you referring to? If you're talking about the older players ( 20+) who have been around awhile, the bestvway to 'help' them is to select them for Wleague, yet there are many who are refusing to give it a go because it's all too hard, or they claim favoritism, or whatever- turning their backs on a national stage that would get them seen by Sermanni and co and possibly invited out to a camp.

If you're talking about younger players, then WLeague, NTC and state squads are avenues that are provided for them. I think you might see several young promising players in the reds squad this year who work incredibly hard and have great potential.

The road to National selection is a long one. It takes a lot of hard work and persistence, and not just
at training twice a week. as Mia Hamm said it's all about what you do when nobody's watching.

The FFSA is currently working hard to shepherd talent through to national selection, but it's up to the girls to work hard and take advantage of the opportunities that are there.

Out of curiosity. How many times a week are the girls training?

They are training five days a week... and some of these are also working full time as well.

Quantity when its poor quality equals WOFTAM

SA Has a very poor base line to work from. The older players interesting slant. I think its a case of "enough of the politics" that goes with growing up. And seeing the ugly side of the game where many players are only in it for reasons other than the game.

Player retention is a concern and i think the boat has already sailed. Thos players 20+ are gone gone gone and so is the intellectual property. The game has suffered.

it was sarcasm, but surely the league should be structured to give a month off between the local season to the w league so the team can be together and the coach given a chance to work some tactics out

the season is a couple of weeks away now and the girls have no chance to recharge after a pretty long season and are now training every night after working full time, no wonder we cant win a game, ffsa now run the team and they are working against us

with the significant monetary losses and shambolic administration its no wonder adelaide united dropped the side, ffsa need to come to the party and help this team out properly

So what? We have to stop pandering to other sports, and start supporting football (soccer) 100%; especially those that want to play at the highest level.

And with that quote we see why the sport promoted on this forum is 3rd in line for spectators, media and funding.

If we want our sport (football/soccer) to grow, in the men and women's leagues, there needs to be a large increase in spectator numbers.
People have to start choosing between their sports!
If they want to support AFL, fair enough, go for it but don't try and tell people that support football (soccer) 100% how to run the game.

We can't have it both ways! We can't go watch and support other codes, while trying to grow ours.

I don't understand the comment; alienate the handful of people that watch at the moment? If that's what you mean and that means working around other codes; we're dead! Our code has tried multiple ways of working around AFL etc, and it has failed every time. Because when football (soccer) makes way for other codes, we're telling everyone that we are not good enough.

Lets start being proud of our sport, work and plan on building it and not worry about the other sports. Work on attracting people to the games that want to spend their time and money on one sport, not those that make our sport the second or third option.

From Facebook Page

Adelaide United Lady Reds (official)
Internal squad game tomorrow 3.15pm at Burton. I know it clashes with AFL but our training schedule is more important. A game on Sunday would disrupt training for next week. Periodisation, rest and recovery take priority at this time in our preparation, hope you all understand.

Makes perfect sense to me. If there is a full periodisation program in place, it is more important than getting crowd to an internal trial by far. If I wasn't working I would come for a look. Much better than the grand final. Hope all the girls come through without injury and having put a quality performance on display to make selection difficult.
