Toros to offer free fees in 2013
Apparently Toros are offering free fees to their juniors next season. Brave decision.
Hope they have around $150k and the rest to cover all the costs.

Re: Toros to offer free fees in 2013
It seems to me as if they have created a sponsorship plan where a child has to get sponsored for $1,000 not to pay fees. If they don't get that then the amount will fall on the parents of players to cover the amount. Also $1,000 seems steep for sponsorship if it goes directly to the club for the cost of a junior player.
Can someone confirm this from Toros?

Because of the area it wouldn't surprise me if they got a grant from the multicultural department or something like that.

Zero to Hero: Local Soccer Club Slashes Fees for Juniors
In a bold move, the Western Toros Soccer Club is offering FREE registration to all Junior Boy’s & Girl’s in the 2013 season. The initiative is bound to be welcomed by soccer parents around Adelaide, who are may choose to pay anywhere between $500 and $1,000 every year for their kids to play.
The Toros plan to fund every registration and facility fee in an attempt to make sport more accessible to children who want to participate but can't afford to. They also hope the cost cutting will rejuvenate community spirit and build a culture of respect, solidarity and multiculturalism in the western suburbs.
This is not the first time the Toros have helped struggling children, with the Pennington based club offering 30 scholarships to refugee children every year, for the past eight years.
Now that the club are finally in the position to do so, they have decided to broaden their scope of assistance so no one misses out.
“Our club is not just driven by football success but by community. We want to create an even playing field and allow everyone to participate,” Lou Ricciuto, Toros Club President.
Photo Opportunity: Our club is very flexible and can accommodate a range of times for interviews to take place at our rooms at Collins Street at Pennington. We have a variety of interviewees available, including children who will benefit from the scheme, parents, current scholarship holders and club officials.
Contact: For further media enquiries please contact Club Secretary Frank Scorsonelli on 0402 990 001 email frank@urpages.com.au or Club President Lou Ricciuto on 0411 196 812 0r ricciuto4@bigpond.com

Funny how when a club tries to do a good gesture for the community everyone else must assume that there is a catch. Junior Fees for Girls and Boys
at the Toros in 2013 will be Free.. children will not have to find sponsors.
Sponsors are welcome to get on board and any help will be appreciated, we just feel it is about time that someone makes a statement and gives something back to junior soccer and the community!

I think there is a lot of jealously on here. I hope the experiment can become permanent and you do brilliantly with it.

Re: Toros to offer free fees in 2013
Please - lets not confuse the term scholarship with government hand-out.
I think what toros is doing is admirable and partially contemptable.
Croydon tried it, as have others, but Toros have continued to utilise the government $$$.
It's not a training academy, they teach hygiene, australian cultural infiltration, and soccer.
A tough gig.
And apparently funds loud mouth parents in the juniors who ruin all that effort (second to strikers of course, or have they improved?).

On my previous statement I was told as such. If this is true then it's only a good thing and will keep kids playing soccer which is only a good thing.
Well done to the Toros.

Re: Toros to offer free fees in 2013
More clubs should be striving for this. Clubs need to re-evaluate what's important. I see too many clubs spending money on track suits, home and away strips and training tops. Clubs need to start paying attention to 2 fundamental things in my opinion.
1. Better coaching for the kids
- this could be in the form of better coaches
- having coaches to coach the coach
2. Lowering the fees or removing the fees all together.
Spend the money where it counts. It's nice looking good but I personally would prefer better coaching.
Congratulations to Toros hope you continue this and force other clubs to follow. This approach will certainly grow our game. Fees have always stopped kids from playing our wonderful sports. I lost a talented kid just this year to Aussie Rules because the parents couldn't afford the fees.

Hate to spoil the party but IMO this is a desparate last ditch effort by Toros which obviously hasnt been thought thru.Just-Me wrote:More clubs should be striving for this. Yes a lot of publicity but what is going to happen when all these kids rock up to play and they have a sh*t load of teams?
Do they have the room and facilities to cater for all these extra teams?
Will they have coaches for all these teams?
Do they have enough people to help out with all these extra players?
And most importantly do they have the money to cover the FFSA fees for all these extra teams/players?
I am thinking the answer is no.
Yes I agree that some clubs charge an arm and a leg to play and other clubs have it about right but this is an extreme on the other end of the scale.
Good luck TOROS cos u r going to need it.
Re: Toros to offer free fees in 2013
will the coaches in charge want to drive around adelaide in a mini bus and pick up the players?
do they have the equipment, facilities and good coaches available that can do a half decent job???
im sure they would be relying on government funding and some sponsorships....
they obviously have to try to attract some juniors into the club and i wish them all the best of luck, but if i had a son or daughter this free offer wouldnt attract me, i would rather pay a grand but have a good coach, decent facilities and play with decent players

You do realise that the Vast, Vast, Vast majority of kids will never make a living from playing the game....
Why pay all that money then??
Let the kids play were they are happy and enjoy going to training.

Re: Toros to offer free fees in 2013
Well done Toro's! I hope it brings new talent to the game.
Are there any plans in place to prevent a child who can easily afford the fees from taking the place of someone who doesn't have the means? I'm assuming that if government funding is involved then it should not be for the benefit of a lawyers son from the Eastern suburbs
Are you able to share the details of how to attract this funding as I'm sure all our clubs would love to be able to make this offer to deserving kids in our own areas? I mean this sincerely.
Great initiative and I hope it's a success.
