Anyone would have taken Hyypia at any stage. He was brilliant.

Why would anyone willingly go to Salford in the first place? Wet, miserable and full of fucking Lancastrians.

True, I guess that's what illustrates the difference between united and teams like pool and arsenal.

Carragher and Gerrard are the only ones left from the last time they won something big. Arsenal had the same situation a while back too. United still have a team full of winners because those experienced guys ( like Hyypia was for pool), stayed in the side.

Lamps/drogba/JT/cech, is probably the best Chelsea example, winning through their peak and still being an influence after.

Well maybe if they were a Manchester United fan they might think about going to the ground?

No because we have a team full of players who have trophies and medals coming out of their ears. If I supported Arsenal however, I would love to have a player with his trophy winning experience in my squad. His winning mentality would be invaluable to the current Arsenal team.

You make a good point, but obviously traore is probably a bad example, much like bosingwa and several other squad players.

Would people have wanted Hyypia in there squad the year after? I'd say so.

It comes down to what the player can bring, if you win a final, generally you have dealt with a pressure situation well. So if i want to make sure my team doesn't lose, wouldn't it be great to bring Ricardo Carvalho on just to steady the ship? Giggs and Scholes are way past their best, but you know they can cope with pressure alot better than a younger player would, that's the importance of experience, and players that have won trophies often are the better examples of this because A) generally they were good enough to actually play in an awesome team, so this means they are normally quite talented, and B) the highest pressure you can have is in a final, and reaping the reward after lets you know you can do it, self belief is so important as well.

TLDR: you make a good point, but people will always use some random crappy squad player to prove you wrong, because that's the small exception to the rule.
I should really have used blue text when talking about Traore.

Getting a bit giddy there? Not that serious apparently, lots of players picking up knocks playing for their countries in the last week. Kagawa is a concern as well!!

Club managers must hate these international weeks

When was that filmed? Nowhere near as good as he was, gives the ball away constantly and is slow. Yeah can hold the ball up well but certainly doesnt dictate play how he once did. Thanks for the video though.....

Before the United Barca final i reckon?

There's a reason he came back out of retirement, You may not notice it, but he's the glue when he comes on, there's a reason why he's Xavi's idol.

I'll try and find some of his game stats for this season. The guy never loses the ball.

He has been one of the best midfielders the premier league has seen, no doubt. But face it he is on the decline and nowhere near the player he was....He will have no real impact anymore.

Still dictated the play in almost every game he played in last year. The match at Anfield sticks out for me as one of his best. He hasn't featured much this year but changed the game when he came on against Southampton. Will still be one of the best midfielders in the country for 25-30 games this season.

Not really sure why we're having this debate to be honest? A bigger issue for United is finding someone to replace him like for like but is that even possible unless we buy Xavi or Iniesta?

Joe Allen and Jack Wilshere seem to be the best young british replacements.. Mceachran isn't good enough and i dont watch enough of Cleverly to comment, he seems a bit more industrious.

Can't really tell with Cleverly yet, the lad needs a run of games to see how good he is and exactly what type of midfielder he's gonna be. Hopefully he'll play all season then we'll see if he's good enough.
