Champions League groups aka the trophy Hawksey wants

Post by Litmanen »

Drawn tomorrow, but here are the seedings.
Seeding pot 1 - Chelsea, Barcelona, Man. United, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Arsenal, Porto, A.C. Milan
Seeding pot 2 - Valencia, Benfica, Shakhtar Donetsk, Zenit St. Petersburg, Schalke, Man. City, Braga (Portugal), Dynamo Kyiv
Seeding pot 3 - Olympiacos, Ajax, Anderlecht (Belgium), Juventus, Spartak Moscow, Paris Saint-Germain, Lille, Galatasaray
Seeding pot 4 - Celtic, Borussia Dortmund, BATE Borislov (Belarus), Dinamo Zagreb (Croatia), CFR Cluj (Romania), Málaga, Montpellier, Nordsjælland (Denmark)

Could potentially have Madrid, City, Juve, and Dortmund in the same group. 4 title winners

I'm hoping Chelsea get Braga, Anderlecht, and Celtic. I suspect those three teams should be easy enough to beat.

It's weird seeing only two Italian teams.

It's been so long since we were in it that I've forgotten how the seeding works.

How is City only seeded second?

Think it is based on your last 5 years performance in Europe. So the real question is, how are Man City as high as the 2nd Pot?

Edit: Mr. Litamen, I have a lot of time for that signature.

Can you draw a team from the same country in your group?

Already got 5 of the "trophy everyone wants" in the cabinet. Wake us up when another English team is coming close.

It's based on the last 5 years which is why Arsenal are still in pot 1 even though they finished 3rd.

It'll be interesting to see how the English sides fair in Europe, Considering how poorly Manchester teams went last season, it'll be interesting to see how they fair this year, Especially Man City, who will probably once again get a tough group.

Is that why you don't try and qualify because you've won it 5 times?

Well it does get tiring! 'Twas boring dominating the domestic league plus Europe for so long (although being banned from Europe during the prime years didnt help adding more wins). Now some other teams have come along and begun their quest to try and achieve similar success. Maybe when someone else wins 4 or 5 from England we will fire up again.

You'll notice it wasn't Liverpool supporters that brought us into it. But then again it never is.

Good to see Man U and Arsenal getting super easy groups as usual.

PSG got lucky, and Ajax got screwed hard as always !
