D DAY FOR EAST THIS WEEK

Post by bigpond »

East lose or draw this week and Pontians win and Vista get any result and its Div 2 for East with 2 games to go.

A very tough game against Farm all be it at home.

East have been very up and down the last 3 weeks getting pumped by Downs and Gardens and in between that a good result against Fulham.

Have they got any cards left to play or is it over for them?

Can Beaman get them up and keep them in it for at least another week?

Maybe Fulham were just very bad that week???

Either way it will be an interesting weekend

Fulham were bad that week against East but take nothing away from East as they were very good that day - saying we were bad takes credit away from East that day as they were very good - as I said up and down the last 3.

Good thing when you are sitting in the top half of the table is that you can afford to have bad days and not have to worry about being dragged into a dog fight at the end of the season - I always said that if we had a solid mid table finish this year and not have to worry about relegation in the last few weeks then we would be happy with that.

Now that we have achieved that (as we shouldn't finish any lower than 5th) we need to build on that for next season.

Well it really will be D Day this week against Pontians.

Has to be a win to give East any hope of staying up.

Would be good to c East win to take it into the last game of the season.

Would be quite ironic if that happened as Beaman used to coach Westies..tell me if I'm wrong but I believe Beaman took over from Watkins when he coached Westies and now Watkins has taken them back to Div 1..

I read on the forum Beaman is re-appointed for 2013?

Is this a plan to aim for Div 3, with back to back relegations?

His efforts this year has riuned the hard work of the previous gaffer,

word has it a number of current players will be leaving if the re-appointment stands?

I heard this on the weeknd too, but the chances are it was hearsay from what has been read on here. If true, I'm very surprised they have made the decision this early without asking for applications of interest. I could understand it all if the club were in a much higher posi on the league table, but that is obviuously not the case.
I also can't help thinking that what I saw on Sunday was a club with one big heartache. After the progress made over the last two seasons, new clubrooms, additions to the squad etc. we now see heads dropped and players leaving, (one of Adelaide's best young keepers being one) and now rumours of a mass exodus over the summer will only add to the weight around their necks.
Whether this is purely down to the gaffer, only those closer to the club will know, but from outside looking in, it just looks like Easties aren't their usual selves. They did admittedly show a lot of dig on the park, but the tension at the club was clear for all to see.
Good luck Easties, I think you'll need it to stay up, but it's nothing new to PHE, they know how to bounce back.

As a current PHE player I can clear some things up. I haven't heard a single person at the club complain about Daves performance as coach. We have lost key players to injuries and a couple left (although I think the replacement keeper is far better ) during the year which has contributed to our struggles. Wherever we end up after round 18 I would imagine most players will be back next season haven't heard of 1 leaving yet. The club is clearly happy with Dave as a first team coach as he has been appointed already for 2013. Says more about the guy than the previous rubbish posts dont you think??

There is plenty of fight left in the PHE club for 2012 underestimate us at your own peril.

Well said redsfan and I have to say that the keeper they have now has always impressed me when I have seen him. I think it was a good post defending the unity that the club obviously has in reappointing the coach. Club committees generally aren't silly and if they didn't think they were making progress then they wouldn't have reappointed the coach?

Just to clarify, I wasn't trying to have a dig, just said I was surprised by the early appointment. I won't be the only one.
As for the comments on heads being dropped, I wasn't suggesting disunity there either, just the fact you can feel the tension at the club. I know exactly what it's like, we got relegated last year.
The second post was a bit of fun trying to lighten the mood.
Once again, good luck to Easties, see you for the Rebecca Cup.

Same old story, when the teams’ winning it’s the players when they're losing it’s the coach.

IF East do go down I’m sure they'll put everything to coming back up and it may turn out to be a good thing for them in that they have a lot of talented youngsters who would get another year together and if promoted would have another crack at Div 1 and staying in it..

Div 1 is a $ league and another level with the best teams paying that bit more and thus getting the better players (and good on them as that’s within their rights to do so) and other than the top 4 there’s a real fight to stay in the league as the newly promoted clubs who will stay up have found out, there’s a big difference to Div 1 and Div 2.

News to me Haywood but not suprised as I suppose there’s always going to players who aren’t happy but coaches generally make decisions for the benefit of all (not individuals) and if those same players can’t accept that perhaps it’s best for all if they do leave for ‘greener’ pastures.

So your the keeper then? and arent you Beaman's best buddy? So it would be safe to assume opinions people didnt want to be blabbed to the coach wouldnt be told to you?

R u fu*ken serious?

U guys after an ok year last year r on the verge of relegation this year so have gone backwards and u r saying the committee must c something in him?

Very strange - don't know Beaman and he might be a nice bloke but even if u save urself it will be by the skin of ur teeth so how u can make a re-appointment at this stage is beyond me.

Committees can't be stubborn - if u go down or save urself the whole season must be looked at in review b4 a decision should be made.

R U serious terminator at the east we have had a run of bad luck injuries being the biggest issue also we had a lot of players leave from last years squad so this year became a little bit of a rebuilding year most of our new squad is still very young and coming to terms of the amateur Div 1 some people didnt realise how much faster the game is. From talking with most players it does sound like majority will be staying with others undecided but that is up to the coach to discuss with all players and see where loyalties lie. Dave has done a good job and there have been a fair few results that could of gone our way but luck hasnt been with us but thats football and that is what makes it such a brilliant game.

It is news to me as that anyone made comment that if Ryan was re-appointed players would leave. There were players that held moggy in high regard as a coach in fact and weren't happy he wasn't coaching. And at the end of the day I'm pretty sure it was Ryans decision not the committees (correct me if I'm wrong). To suggest the club is run by players is an insult and attacks the integrity of the Pres and the rest of the committee. We had a high turnover of players at the start of the year (both leaving AND coming in) and throughout the year (injuries...HOLIDAYS! etc). That coupled along with a new coach and different coaching style may go some way to explain our indifferent results. Yes we've been unlucky in some games, yes we've had injuries but so have probably most clubs. I think that if our VERY young squad stays together and gets another year playing together in the style they are being asked then there will be significant improvements. You can't expect to throw a bunch of lads together in this division and think it will all click straight away. Especially at the moment where the first division is probably the strongest I've seen it in a long time.

Why arent people talking about the grove for gods sake? bosna or maco's?

Ah well i guess we are the ones in the poo

This year has been frustrating. After our preseason I would never have thought we would end up where we are now.
Like Gabon and others said its a very very tough league. We dont have the money to throw at players, we dont have (but are trying to get) fantastic links with fed clubs. What we do have is a great squad of players averaging 23years old. We have been out smarted and not necessarily outplayed in a lot of our games and you cant really blame that on dave at all. Being 29 and one of the oldest players (second only to dunty :)) is something, that as a player who has been at the club for a long time, is really positive.

When we put out the advert last year, there was only a small handful of quality applicants. So we have a coach who has worked with these young players and is being given time to mould these youngster hopefully into a div1 quality team.
We have been up and down so many times its not funny. Coaches have come and gone for various reasons. Its time again to try and get some stability again.
