Nice one, Hanndorf need 2 wins to stay up! Gleeson lose the plot, Comets should be a breeze and Vipers could be a white wash, but still, 2 great wins and then the drugs might wear off and the pigs should land.

I was surprised at the quality of the food at comets. BB was packed away at half time of the A's and all that was on offer was sausages and onions. Was expecting better from the greek derby.

Well you could start by commenting on how comes your food was crap on saturday?

In the mean time, maybe people are still coming to grips with how tight it all and how it's still all to play for etc.. No boyd wants to put their head up too high because it's a long way to come crashing down.

ahhh yes you are correct. but im bored so would appreciate some banter.

re the food. we had originally organised a spit but our cook had to work so that got cancelled. usually we have enough food to cater for 5pm but looks like the b's and c's ate a lot. so i do appologise hawksey. why didnt you play anyway?

Some big games this weekend, we got a greek derby and italian derby and a pommy derby.

Titans v Vipers is game of the round for me.

MOD JETS v GLEESON 5-0
MONARCHS v COMETS 0-2
TITANS v VIPERS 1-1
REDBLUE EAGLES v COUGARS 1-2

If results go a little something like that then Comets will be crowned champions for 2012 :)

I was beginning to wonder whether I'd dreamt there was going to be a spit.

I am injured at the moment, so didn't play on Friday night. Hopefully I'll be back this week.

Pommy derby? I would call gleeson an italian club

Comets will win the league this week or next (and congrats to them, they have been the most consistent team in the league all year). They've ground out results when maybe they could have been beaten, and perhaps won a few they should have drawn. Consistency is the key in this league, and they've done it well. Enjoy the party lads - you deserve it, its been a very tough league.

2nd Promotion spot will be out of Titans and Modbury. Titans were a far better side when we played them the 2nd time. Either of these sides could deservedly go up. I think Modbury will be booting themselves that they have their backs to the wall and really have no room for error. Maybe its taken them a while to get motoring - but for me, they are the best side in the league (on their day). They have to win their remaining games, might serve them well if Comets do wrap it up this week. Titans have themselves in a nice position - but have some tough games. Both coaches seemed to have got more and more out of their lads as the season progresses....good luck to both.

Cougars could be a dark horse too - but will have to rely on results going their way I think. Very good side, that will no doubt be kicking themselves that they drew a few they should have won.

The rest of the teams have lacked consistency - and therefore have no chance of going up.

If my sources are right, the SAASL have deemed the ARBE vs Hahndorf game a null and void result. NO team will get the points, so in essence, its like the game never existed - WELL DONE ON CREATING YOUR OWN RULES LADS. However, any suspension/yellow cards will be upheld. These guys have little to no idea what they are doing.
Id also like to congratulate the referee who put down in his report that I "needed to be restrained by 5 players (Blatant lie - not just a difference in opinion) from attacking him." All that were there, would note that I walked off on my own accord. Clearly, he has needed to exaggerate the events in order to justify the POOREST decision that I have seen in 26 years involved in the game. Its because of things like this, ref's get a hard time. Its disappointing, when people put a lot of hard work into a season (especially the guys in the committee, who it seems as though they have a thankless job).

SAASL - Get your hands in your pockets, and recruit referees, pay them some decent cash (try and attract ex players - they know the game). For me, I woudnt get out of bed for $90 - let alone to go out and cop abuse. You pay peanuts and you'll get monkeys. Majority of the guys do a decent job, but there are some referees going around the place that have been handed a whistle and $90 after watching a refereeing DVD.
In order to strengthen the league, you need to have better officials, better training and recruiting.

Good luck to all teams for the remainder of the season. Its been a tough season!!

Nice right up!
If only ARBE didnt loose the 4 players to overseas. I thought ARBE were unlucky not to get the win on Friday night, defensively you looked weak but still strong going forward with dom and bandanaboy (not sure his name). Modbury 2nd keeper didnt look strong when he came on, if only he could have been tested a little more.

My darkhorse for promotion.......Vipers.

From our "preferred" starting 11 at the beginning of the year - we had EIGHT players missing!! It was a great effort from the club considering they were in Div 4, 2 seasons ago....

Lots of if's, but's and maybe's with that one.

Titans just need to win 2 of their next 3 games and they will finish 2nd, as long as Modbury lose 1 or draw 2 of their next three games. With two of those games being against the Comets, you'd think there is a pretty good chance.

Vipers, on the other hand....
1. need to win 3 games, AND
2. need RBE to lose 1 of their next two, AND
3. need Titans to lose 2 of their last 3 (we can only influence one :D), AND
4. need Cougars to lose or draw 1 of their last 3, AND
5. need Modbury to lose or draw 2 of their last 3.

We were too inconsistent throughout the year and will will pay for it by staying in Div 2 another year.

This game went ahead after what happen - yet the RBE vs Hahndorf match was deamed null & void - where is the justice and fariness? No fight happen on the day only players pulling thier own players away and pulling the offending Hanhndorf player away from kicking the RBE keeper....
The lads have played out of thier skin, even with a depleated team and then they have coped this!
Well done to the RBE boys!

To the remianing contenders - good luck and well done you are all in your well deservent spots!

The difference is the SAASL are very protective of the referees due to low numbers. They will always side with the ref so they dont loose them. I spoke to your pres about it and it sounds like the ref has lost the plot.

shame the ARBE v Cougars wasnt the friday night game. would have come to that as well.

So Modbury go to 3rd on 21, ARBE, Cougars and Vipers share 4th, slight goal difference separating them.... Close end, any of these 4 teams can get promoted still. Modbury have to play the Champions twice, we still have to play the Titans....

If you want the SAASL to employ refs for $90, then be ready to pay it.

The clubs will ultimately have to reach into their pockets for refs that may or may not be better than what we already have.

I myself am sick of refs that fail to control games that eventually lead to becoming out of control. However, I have noticed a number of ex-Fed (or still currently Fed) refs joining the Amateur Refs Assoc (whatever the acronym is), and that's only a positive.

Maybe they'll eventually introduce a retirement age and the 110 year old statue will stop.
