Good to hear.

We were still shit, but he had a 'mare.

Yellow card for Suarez for lifting his hand in the air towards the linesman about 60 yards away. Long does same thing, no card.
Yellow card for Lucas for a tussle in the middle of the park. No yellow card for an elbow to Suarez's face just outside their box.
Penalty awared and red card given to Agger when a) there was minimal contact and b) it was outside the box.
Penalty awared about two minutes later for literally fuck knows what.

I've highlighted the pertinent bit for you.

Sorry, but as a defender, once you're behind the running forward there's no possible way of winning the ball, it has to be a foul every time, so would still have been a red for Agger even if it was outside the box (which is debatable) and, in any event, it was just about the worst penalty you'll see this year.

Not disputing the red card. If he gives the foul there, it's a sending off, no doubt. My issue is with the foul being called for what was very little contact with the referee back on the halfway line & that it happened outside the box.

Teach them to defend properly. There should be NO contact, you have to let him go and hope he fucks up or Reina saves it. Any contact at all leaves you open to exactly what happened. Fair enough to do that in the centre circle but not on the edge of your own box. Agger was dumb and was punished accordingly.

Lennon and VdV managed exactly the same dumb defending in our game so he's not alone. Footballers are not the sharpest tools in the shed.

The worst part of all of this is that Carragher now plays, He couldn't even handle Lukaku, who can't get minutes at Chelsea, and he has to start against Man City :s.

Allen is pretty good though, good signing.

The other thing I noticed is that every time Agger goes off... Skrtel's performance drops, fast.

It really does. Agger seems to have a calming influence on the defence.

If Carra starts against City, we'll be crucified. Has to be Coates.

Time to chuck Kelly into his favoured CB position, he's the quickest of all the defenders. If Rodgers wants to play a high line then Enrique-Kelly-Skrtel-Johnson is best. Coates is very good, but I'm not sure a small partnership of Aguero-Tevez will be a good matchup for him.

As for the game; new season, same sh*t. Can't finish.
WBA mustered 1 shot on target in the first half (the cracker goal) while we wasted 3-4 very good opportunities.

Pretty soft red (not sure how much contact there was) and 2nd penalty (Skrtel had possession went to clear the ball and Long nipped in before his foot got to the ball). Let's be honest, if that was Suarez on both occasions there'd be constant replays on 24hr news channel, back pages of papers, a parliamentary enquiry and the PFA making press statements.
There or not open to interpretation, but very soft.

Allen had a good debut considering he's been with us 6 days. Kept possession well in tight spaces but his long passing was a real treat. I can start to see the 15m valuation now.
The Lucas-Allen partnership is very solid. Happy with that area of the team. That's the only positive from the game.

Not sure giving Kelly his first chance at centre half for us against City is such a good idea. He's got the pace, but I think I'd rather see Coates get the nod.

Basically, anyone but Carragher (as much as it pains me to say that).

If Carragher starts you can throw the game-plan and any chance of a result out the window. The man is a club legend, but moving forward with the way BR wants to play he is going to struggle big time.

Second penalty was not there, and shits me to tears how the commentary team tried to make it seem as though it was. Had the first penalty been down the other end, i would have been filthy if they didn't pay it. We need another CB as cover (Coates is young)... but more importantly we need a striker who can finish what Suarez creates. Borini didn't excite in his first game.. will take time to settle in but he is still young and I am not sure he is capable of a 15 goal season just yet. Allen looks the goods.

Save judgement until you play a decent team.

Gerrard's seen better days.

In the end.....it was a 3-0 loss to WBA  I'm sure that none of you LFC fans would have thought that nothing but 3 points from this game was possible.

Allen was the only one that looked ok.

Every team has bad days. BR got hammered first game last season too if I remember correctly. He could have been in front if we took our chances. I'm positive we will give man city a run. Think BR should consider his options for Agger's absence.

Knew some smartass (probably you) would come up with that.

But seriously, would have been amazing saves to deny any of the three.

I thought 3 nil flattered Liverpool to be honest. Be interesting to see where they are at after the next 3 games... Could be 4 straight losses to start the season.
