Interesting you mention Old Iggies, we were locked in a promotion battle with them and ARBE a few seasons ago, ( in div 4 ) and when we played Iggies near the end of the season, they did not stack their sides (to my knowledge )even though their higher team was already promoted, and we beat them. As i said earlier, I am sure most clubs dont abuse the ruling, in Men's soccer - in women's soccer totally different story !Fudpucker wrote:What about this scenario. An example, let's say Old Ignatians who have Div 1 and Div 4. Div 1a has nothing to play for as far as promotion or relegation and Div 4a are pushing promotion so they drop a few of their Div 1a and Div 1b players down to their Div 4a side for last 2-3 games in order to get promoted.
If you were in a Div 4 club you would be pretty livid that any chance you may of had to get promoted were quashed by a massive established club being able to drop players from their higher division sides.
Interestingly the only people commenting here seem to those from clubs that have 4 or more teams. Not surprising that you all think it's ok. I'm sure most clubs similar size to us would be unhappy that this can occur.

Iggies was just an example. I'm not saying they would do it. I'm sure some clubs would though. The General wrote:Interesting you mention Old Iggies, we were locked in a promotion battle with them and ARBE a few seasons ago, ( in div 4 ) and when we played Iggies near the end of the season, they did not stack their sides (to my knowledge )even though their higher team was already promoted, and we beat them. Think it is about the player numbers available (ie Adelaide United only have acertain number of players they can nominate for the ACL) ...not the funds or facillities available.Steve#6 wrote:Too many socialists on this thread for my liking

In reference to assigning players to Divisional squads....whatever happens to the A-side determines what Division your B-Side plays in.....

Spot on mate. Its difficult being a small club trying to battle through a season with a minimum amount of players. Personally I believe if you are wanting to change divisions it should be considered a transfer.swannsong wrote:Think it is about the player numbers available (ie Adelaide United only have acertain number of players they can nominate for the ACL) ...not the funds or facillities available.Steve#6 wrote:Too many socialists on this thread for my liking

Re: Playing in 2 Divisions
This is the relevant rule in regards to catch up games. Others who have been invovled in the game longer than I may remember more precisely but I recall this rule was much "tighter" than it is now about 5 years ago. It used to be able to prevent teams to stack their reserves.
Whilst I appreciate you argument on the one hand that players should not be able to go up and down the divisons as it may give rise to so-called stacking, on the other all these players belong to the same club and not allowing interchange can cause a divisional structure within the club.
14. ITERCHAGEABILITY OF PLAYERS
(a) When a club is promoting more than one team in the League championship
competition, that club (provided it be a full member and not a designated “thirds” or
“veterans” club) may be permitted to interchange its players from one team to
another unless those players be under suspension, or have been sent off on the same
day.
(b) No club shall use in its Reserve or Thirds team, a player who is a regular first team player.
For the purpose of interpreting this sub-rule, a regular first team player is one who has
played 80 per centum of games in the first division as at the time of completion of 80 per
centum of the prescribed fixtures, (calculated to the nearest whole game). Where there is
good reason to suspect a breach of this rule the club will be charged with misconduct and if
the Disciplinary Committee finds the charge sustained the offending club shall forfeit the
match in which a player is used and may, in addition, be subject to additional penalty or
penalties. This rule is only applicable to catch up fixtures where the senior team is not
playing.

Re: Playing in 2 Divisions
I don't think it is a problem. If a club has the numbers to field 4 teams and can retain the quality, then they should be allowed to do it.
I also think that if a club and I am sure there are clubs out there (ie Uni Black) that have clubs in FFSA collegiate league, should also be able to interchange players if needed.
Afterall what is the advantage of expanded/growing the club with more teams, if you don't have that ability to utilise your resources. Should be looked at as purely a club (with the exception of Professional/Amateur status).

Re: Playing in 2 Divisions
Flinders as a club have a lot of players across all our teams. With lads paying $200+ to play football, it is only fair we try and get them a game with one of our teams otherwise they are likely to quit and unless they find another local team to play for will probably stop playing which hurts the game.
I have helped out our 4's when they were short due to injuries and guys being away on holiday. Is this a luxury we as a larger club have over smaller clubs sure. But we don't 'load' our teams as suggested. On the whole we do actually have set players for each squad but as already mentioned sometimes there is movment based on injuries, work commitments and holidays. we simply try and get as many guys a game as we can which is what football should be about.

Should we also then have different committees, playing strips, etc? Can we train together? What you are saying is that we should be two separate clubs with no mixing of players, which is completely impractical. In effect, what would happen is that there would be less teams in the lower divisions as it would be too difficult administratively for clubs to have more than three teams (an A and B side and a C team in a designated C competition).shaneporker wrote:Spot on mate. Having 5 teams doesn't mean we don't battle through a season with minimal players - in some respects it is worse. We've been struggling to fill our five teams due to injuries and general unavailability, with players having to play in multiple games on Saturday. Unfortunately our Div 6 side had to forfeit a few weeks ago due to it having only 1 player available! This is part of growing our club from 3 sides two years ago to four last year and this year five!
I also note that when you talk about fairness, you don't question that it is your As and Bs that play against the Cs and Ds of bigger clubs in the lower grades! We accept this as a challenge and don't complain that it puts us at a disadvantage. In fact, we see it as an opportunity to strengthen our club by preparing our mostly younger lads to play at the higher grades.

You can't complain about your C's and D's playing us. I agree, I mean st peters nearest club is about 1km away. Where's your nearest other saasl club? I think your team should be penalised as they have such a large catchment area, it's not fair on clubs like saint peters.

I think the point the SPOC lad is trying to make is that his clubs Cs face play your As, so in fact players ranked say 29 to 42 at his club play against your best team.

The rationale wasn't supposed to make sense, it was taking the piss out of your own ridiculous concept. Then again, when you're only qualified to drive a tractor, I'm not surprised you didn't follow that.
Of course I didn't go to st peters', I went to a decent school.
It gets funnier, you're in the bottom division and you're complaining about other teams D grades.

Shane obviously did not go to a good school nor does he play for a good club. However, if you are content with mediocrity so be it. Maybe you should send him a pm and organise a fudpucking session; you obviously fancy him.

I agree, once you've played A grade that should be it your tied to the A grade. I know a lot A grade players would agree as well, they have a divine right to play A Grade. Why should they be dropped because they are playing shit?

Just enjoy your football mate, life is too short for anything else.
If I recall, one year Aaron Westervelt played a game for Salisbury Florina's C team and I think that is great - gives his team mates the opportunity to play along side him, and his opponents the opportunity to say I played against AV.
It's how you look at it, some would complain, others would seize the opportunity.Enjoy.
