Re: Lady Reds
I think there are trials very soon to be played at Burton. Will be interesting to see if DE still goes for his usual favourites or if he actually gives a go to players who performed well in the local league...some say it will just be a massive waste of time because it's all already decided...I don't know what DE will do but sure there are very interesting players around and a few teams can really play football IMO. I wish the Lady reds could play like a couple of the local teams, at least the games would be interesting...I'm so sick to go and watch boring cr@p and hear excuses from FFSA/Adelaide United...
Re: Lady Reds
so the team is trialled and selected every year? the players don't have contracts ala the men?

Re: Lady Reds
I have a feeling it will be a fairly similar squad to last season but with a few fresh faces and some others moving on.

Re: Lady Reds
So the W-league coach has been here less than a year and already he has an entire team of "favorites"?
And let's just clarify- he watches a lot of Prems games over the course of the season and formulates opinions of players based on many observations, not just one set of trials. To think that W-league trials is the only performance a coach takes into consideration is just naive.
Players need to bring it every time they step onto the pitch. Period.

Re: Lady Reds
surely the same faces cannot get chosen after a year of rubbish
obviously 3-4 should stay who performed such as checker, but the rest should be moved on and new things tried

I hope W-league coach has been down at Burton watching the Cup semi ? last week and this friday night ..............
Re: Lady Reds
I have a friend of mine who hasn't played for 3 years...is a fair player in her day. I reckon I'll see if she wants to trila. She shoudl get in. She has a pulse. Can kick and run. Isn't that the criteria?

Re: Lady Reds
I think more than 3-4 deserve to stay. Don't forget in comparison to other teams how young the Lady Reds are. Yes, some need to move on and some new faces need to be brought in but a complete overhaul is the last thing the squad needs right now. Despite only 1 win last season, they were so much more competitive than the previous 2 seasons and could easily have had another win and couple draws on the board. I think they'll be better again this season and the team will be heading in the right direction. Considering they get no funding from AUFC, I think they are managing well. Be realisticDOC wrote:surely the same faces cannot get chosen after a year of rubbish

Re: Lady Reds
i am bein realistic, the players being chosen aren't doing the job, the best thing is that every year starts new due to the long break and players going away and playing in local leagues so new players can be brought in every year, especially if they impress for their club side, 1 win is not acceptable no matter what league so yes an overhaul is neededRed-4-Life wrote:I think more than 3-4 deserve to stay. Re: Lady Reds
There is a lot of young talent in there...if they develop and build around more experienced players they will become a good team. Patience is key in this situation. We are not lucky enough like Sydney, Brisbane, Canberra and Newcastle to have the funds available to lure players here. The Lady Reds earn NOTHING so the best players will go elsewhere. For what resources they have available, they are doing alrightDOC wrote:i am bein realistic, the players being chosen aren't doing the job, the best thing is that every year starts new due to the long break and players going away and playing in local leagues so new players can be brought in every year, especially if they impress for their club side, 1 win is not acceptable no matter what league so yes an overhaul is neededRed-4-Life wrote:I think more than 3-4 deserve to stay. Re: Lady Reds
how do you build on one win?
i know we dont have resources to attract the stars but that shouldn't matter here, the complete club needs to be looked at as the last 3 years have been a joke

Maybe AUFC can help by providing funding to their women's team. It would make a hell of a differenceDOC wrote:how do you build on one win?

its run by the ffsa, maybe they could provide more funding, seeing as they are ripping off clubs blind locallyRed-4-Life wrote:Maybe AUFC can help by providing funding to their women's team. It would make a hell of a differenceDOC wrote:how do you build on one win?

Yep...other than that I think the midfield and defence is not too badJohn Cena wrote:we need a good keeper and someone that can finish and score......

I think we will all see a big improvement in MJ this season up forward remembering she only played a handfull of games before the start of last season when coming back from her 2nd knee.Red-4-Life wrote:Yep...other than that I think the midfield and defence is not too badJohn Cena wrote:we need a good keeper and someone that can finish and score......
The season away will have her match fit and we might see the best of her which would be a massive plus for the whole team.

I could not agree more DE has to look further a field not look at his feet get your head up and take the blinkers off .Bad Egg wrote:I think there are trials very soon to be played at Burton. How can he have usual favourites when he's only coached one season thus far?oneball wrote:I could not agree more DE has to look further a field not look at his feet get your head up and take the blinkers off .Bad Egg wrote:I think there are trials very soon to be played at Burton. The guy is making a big difference, it is still the off-season, and if all the Prem clubs implemented the fitness plans he wanted them to then we should be competitive and he should be able to pick impartially from all.
Re: Lady Reds
I think people will find DE does not have 'blinkers' on, as I'm lead to believe that he has been looking around for players who demonstrate a particular set of attributes e.g. skill, determination, work ethic, good attitude, desire to succeed, etc.Lucas Leiva wrote:How can he have usual favourites when he's only coached one season thus far?oneball wrote:I could not agree more DE has to look further a field not look at his feet get your head up and take the blinkers off .Bad Egg wrote:I think there are trials very soon to be played at Burton. There are some local players who didn't get selected to last years W-League squad or the initial NTC squad who have since been busting their a$$es at their clubs etc trying to prove to DE what they are capable of on a consistent week to week basis, and some have been noticed and given the opportunity with NTC in recent times (including the upcoming NTC challenge in Canberra which takes place soon). They are most definitely not his 'usual favourites' (as some people may have you believe), or they would have been in those squads originally.
Good luck to them with pushing for the Lady Reds squad and whether they make it or not you cant deny their skill and ambition which has got them this far.
Good luck to all who are going to trial for the Lady Reds in the coming weeks, and I hope to see some good football being played by them in the coming W League season.

Re: Lady Reds
With the season starting in about 8 weeks, the squad should already be selected and training together, now ! Otherwise we are going to be left behind again.

57 players expected at AU trial yesterday, only 15 turned up. What conclusions can be drawn from that?

Re: Lady Reds
Isn't the NTC challenge on this week in Canberra??
I would assume that a team of 16-20 players would be involved in that along with DE.
