We have got the best volunteer groundsman in the league! He has put so much work into the pitches and they just keep getting better year after year. Once our synthetic pitch is up and running we won't need to cut the pitch up through training on really wet nights either. Well done Pete!

Dixie Dean was hailed by another Mersey legend, Liverpool’s Bill Shankly, as “belonging in the company of the supremely great, like Beethoven, Rembrandt and Shakespeare.”

60 goals, never to be equalled.

Nah I'm not - had the alias before i came to GFC. Used to keep at Vista, then came to GFC to start fresh on the pitch.
Stef is quality - and still so young. Saved our asses more times than i care to remember! Also a gun on the field the bastard!!

That's the appropriate word.

The teams playing on the pitches right next door didn't seem to have any problems. Must have been an isolated flood that had cleared up all the water by midday.

If you guys wanted to play, you would have rocked up and made the decision to cancel that morning if appropriate....

That's certainly not my understanding of the process. Could we have asked that the official ref inspects the pitch, from the 2 reports I have had on the pitch it was definitely playable.

Well so far we know that the game was already cancelled on Friday evening. My understanding is that the Comets can't ring up your committee the night before and say "we've made a decision to cancel the match". Someone from your club had to have agreed to cancel without even checking out the pitch / conditions on Saturday morning.... so why complain that the game didn't go ahead?

I don't recall me ever complaining about it. I just stated the facts regarding it.

Having read what you said, you're right... you don't seem to be complaining this time. However, given your reputation here it was almost automatic to assume you were having a whinge. :)

Thanks for the support

My understanding is that comets called the league, not us. That said it would seem the league were comfortable with the game being called off without anyone inspecting the ground.

I guess the issue is, doesn't a ref get half fees if he attends the ground?
