Ireland have nothing to play for now, Trappatini will give Italy the 3 goal result they need ( And the 3 goal difference is only needed if we jag a draw with Spain, which I highly doubt )

If Spain and Croatia draw 2-2, Italy are eliminated. Just like it happened in 2004. Surely not again...

Netherlands need to beat Portugal and hope Germany beat Denmark then all 3 teams are on 3 points and it comes down to goal difference ex-German results.

Current GD (ex-German results):
Den 0
Por 0
Netherlands -2

So, for Netherlands to go through they’ll need to win by 2 goals to leapfrog Portugal (a 1-0 win will have them level on GD but behind on goals scored). But still behind Denmark with even GD but less goals scored.

Basically, if Netherlands comprehensively beat Portugal and Denmark lose they’re through.
Likewise if Portugal and Denmark both win Germany could still go out.

Still think Croatia can draw vs Spain, Italy should pummel Ireland though.
TBH croatia have been far better than I have seen for some time, Italy have re-invented themselves & Spain class although Ireland are not at the races !

Italy should of put the game beyond doubt in first half. Then took foot off the pedal and to Croatias credit they pushed and equalized. Will be a nervy last round !

Italy's point against Spain will see them through.

Italy far better first half...I agree, they took their foot of the pedal 2nd half, in typical Italian style - happy with 1.0, sit back and absorb and Croatia came back hard and I thought deserved a draw in the end.

Howard Webb obviously mistook Italy for Man Utd at certain points of the match.

Nice to see the Irish do their best to play Torres back into form.

I still think there are some surprises with the group yet.

What's the deal with the group of death at it stands? If Denmark lose to Germany and Netherlands beat Portugal, Denmark, Netherlands and Portgual will all be on 3 points. Doesn't it then to go head to head results? If that's the case, Denmark beat Holland, Portugal beat Denmark and Holland will have beaten Portgual. I take it goal difference is next?

Welcome to yesterday, it's been discussed above

Although one of the aliases made a keen observation the even Germany are not qualified yet and can still be knocked out.

Ahhh, didn't read any of that.

So basically, if Netherlands win by less than a 3 goal margin against Portugal, Denmark will go through?

Don't rate him, I've seen enough of him and he's useless imo.

Modric is also apparently "world claaarsh", but I am yet to see that also - good player, but not worth 40m quid imo.

Would love for both players to prove me wrong but I can't see it happening.

Why so?

Mandzukic has proven me wrong, he has improved big time from the games I've seen him play previously...probably helps Bilic is playing him in his position up front instead of right midfield.

You'd have got great odds on the Czechs and Greeks going through. The Poles and Russians will have to have their punch ups somewhere else now.

Pleasant surprise - no goal-less draws so far (to 17/6/12 date of Group 'A' matches completed).

And a total of 48 goals in 18 matches for an average of 2.66

Pity this good tournament (third in popularity after the senior World Cup & the Olympics) is hidden away on Setanta, although SBS 2 is showing 1-hour highlights @ 5.30pm daily. I also understand the mainstream commercial TV stations are showing the occasional goal in their news segments.

Not only that - in '04 we finished second of the group with 1 win, 1 draw and 1 loss for a total of 4 points and goal difference of 0 and at the expense of Russia as you said!
