Why wouldn't they? We don't play at easter, but sat/sun are not public holidays so of course we should play. IMHO players who play, commit to the season.

Yes we should play.. As injuries occur and players go on holiday the team depth isn't there but that's part of the league!

If both teams agree, play Friday night or mid week if you want the weekend free

I realise in this case it's just pot stirring but if you don't want to play on a long weekend, mothers day, greek easter, the anniversary of your budgies death then don't join the league.

I played yesterday, going to 2 games today and 1 tomorrow. There's not enough football in this country as it is.

Absolutely should not be playing on a long weekend - it's a joke.

It's ridiculas having to play on a long weekend. Long weekends are for family get togethers and everyone should be out with mum, dad, spouse and the kids enjoying the family life not playing bl@@dy soccer, where's it all going to end.

Whilst the topic is out there what the heck is the SAASL doing scheduling games on any weekend????

Most decent folk are out working during the week and should be at home spending quality time with the family on the weekend.

Would be nice to have it off or have some kind of carnival for zones associations etc.

In saying that I don't think it should be a high priority for the league.

Agree with you 100% mate, I played in a scratch match Saturday, played club soccer Sunday, wouldve played yesterday if we had too.

I feel for teams who arent in the cup and have a bye the week prior or after. I am not addicted, I just cant get enough.

The season should start in late March to allow for this long wkend off...

Even start the first game in March with a Cup Round!
We are Liverpool Football Club and the expectations are so high.

I love my football but getting a weekend off every now and then is a good thing for people who also wanna do things with their weekend.

Having said that, if the schedule had games every weekend that would come first for me....

When I was playing Juniors there was always a Queen's Birthday Cup Carnival.
Apart from those that work on specific days on the weekend, I can't understand why so many teams forfeit or are short of players for Cup games ?
If you sign on for a season, why not commit for the whole season ?
I would have loved to have played last weekend :( ....as for long weekend, I had to work Monday Morning :(

Because for a large section of players, they have things planned for the long weekend. Some people are travelling back to their home state for the weekend, others are going away with their girlfriend/wife/family. Whilst the people posting here want to play football every weekend, there are people who have other priorities. For a small club, a few players pulling out can really hurt the strength of your teams. For a large club, 2-3 players across 5 sides makes a massive difference.

Like I said, only 1 long weekend during the actual season and the League Diary on the SAASL site tells yo which weekends are "possible" Cup days.

There are some people that plan their long weekends before the SAASL fixtures are released. If there were league games scheduled this weekend, we may not have been able to field 5 teams on the weekend just gone. When there are cup games and players being cup tied to worry about, it can be worse. If it's only 1 weekend, why is it such an issue that it's "only 1 weekend" that you aren't playing?

you make a commitment for a season of football, I don't see the issue. The season only goes for 5 months, use the other 7 months to go away.

Because that would mean that the season would have to be longer  and maybe include the October long weekend !
