SID wrote:Watched Downs vs Vista today, was a good game ( altho anyone who thinks this is same level of super or premier league are just kidding themselves ) Vista were good 1st half, solid defense with McKay wearing trimmers like a glove. Downs played well in own back 3 rd but then bypassed midfield with long balls which was a bit odd...good goal from vista, build up on left which resulted in a good switch of play by Brzenski which was nodded into the path of Miller who finished well.... 2nd Half completely different with Downs dominating the game. Began playing through midfield and totally controlled the half ... A scramble from a corner saw Scott Lindsay equalize and then brother Andrew scored a lovely curler from 20 yards.... Bounds and McKay were good for vista while Andy Lindsay, Marwe , Morrison and Day were good for Downs..... Looking forward to Parafield vs Downs in couple weeks... Any bets Nuggett ? Downs look good... ..... Couple vista boys down with cramp before half time ??? What the !
Was also at the game today catching up with all and sundry....a little bit chilly and damp but an entertaining game.
Remember fondly SID's father in his brief time at the Downs in 1984 :(
Vista played to their current limitations trying to counter the Downs, who as SID said, the Downs stringing passes together until the last third of the pitch.
Vista's goal was a well finished counter attack finished off clinically by Joel Miller.
I missed Downs equaliser from Scott Lindsay after the break ( had to take our dog back to the car due to heavy rain). But once Downs equalised Vista seemed to go onto the back foot.
Andrew Lindsay's winner was a cracker from about 25 metres that left Vista's keeper looking back in horror.
It might have been more when Jason Trimboli rounded the keeper wide in the box with an open goal begging only be frustrated when it was adjudged that the ball had gone out of play despite being 20cm clear of the line
Great to meet Stop Or I'll Shoot...doing great things with the camera documenting the Downs 50th. year....good to see game photos up on a screen straight after the game.
The Downs Club and atmosphere has come a long way in 50 years.
yeah that about sums it up swanny, vista no push overs gave as good as they got. hard game in crap weather take that score any day......downs ressies had a pretty handy squad as well scoreline showed it with new signing hosier getting amongst it...bring on div 1 saturday shite sturt marion in the cup...saturday or sunday..   do I really need to ask the question
There is no I in team, but there is a u in suck...

Wasn't having a shot at the keeper just thought it was a little poor and in fairness it may not have been directed at Steve. I was merely making an observation.

Karmann I felt I saw enough at Grange and you boys look good well done. As for the cup thanks I'm flattered I'll present it next game and yes yesterday was a tough game of footy

Great game today another crap red today but yeh get that, Munno Para all over them second half should have been more then 3, MP's 3rd goal a spanker and new signing scores on his debut great day for Munno Para
Scrappy first half with few chances, second Para come out and grabbed a quick two goals then ref ruined the contest with the worst two red cards I've ever seen. Game lost all tempo and para grabbed another with a complete miskick that ended up top corner. Great bunch of lads at south coast all the best to them.

B grade won 4-0
agreed. Para deserved the points, having said that the referee was woeful. red carded a player from both sides for pushing each other a couple of times. faaark me. it was a joke. some very baffling decisions

Pretty sure it was 1984...Jimmy Mitchell & Charlie Tunbridge were coaching the A's and Billy had the Reserves as well as helping with the A's whilst Jimmy & Charlie were playing....
Eventful year...my father passed away in April, I started at Flinders Uni., the Downs won Division 2 ( for the 4th time )...

Great game for us yesterday. We probably played our best game so far, imho.

As for the PHW keeper, he was upset the third goal was given (clear goal btw, the whole bloody net shook) and carried on a bit but nothing more than you would expect from goalkeepers who obviously hate conceding.

Can't believe Easties only have two points. Certainly not the worst team we've played. Good bunch of blokes out there so hopefully they can start getting a bit luckier and can turn their season around.

As a westies supporter and lower grade player, I was at the game yesterday and seen the ball hit the net, the referee then in my opinion went and checked where the ball hit the net in relation to the crossbar and awarded the goal, which from where I was standing was the correct decision. Westies can only blame themselves for yesterday's result, florina to there credit played good football.when a team concedes a goal to level back at 1-1, only to take the ball from the re-start to score showed the determination florina had to win. Knowing our boys they will take the result as a learning opportunity and move on to become a stronger team.

As much as The Downs dont want to mention anything about the league YOU WOULD THINK that if Round 9 wasnt big enough with the Gardens VS Downs game, if the Downs get to round 9 undefeated then Im sure the COULDNT/WOULDNT get caught by anyone in the league.

Im pretty sure the Vale in 2000 (Both Seniors and Reserves) got to the half way point of the season undefeated. Not sure about Gardens league titles.
