How have people found having official refs?
The guy who did Inter v Farm reserves on the weekend, may have been wearing an official uniform, but he had no idea what he was doing?
He was so comical he sent a guy off for one of the most inocuous fouls of the day, then never recorded the card on the match card.
Good luck to who ever gets him this week,

God is an Englishman wrote:To me this depends on how much space is available. eg. at jets there is plenty of space for the A grade team to warm up with the game still continuing. At Hahndorf (or iggies if all teams and aussie rules are at home) then there isn't.
If there's space then let the game finish at it's natural conclusion.
happenned last weekend when AV played Uni.
The A referee came on and blew his whistle at 2.55pm and telling the B referee to end it now.
The game was 1-1 and both teams looked like they could grab the final goal, mind u, Adel Uni were in attack at that stage....
there was plenty of room for the players to warm up....

I think it is disgusting that another referee comes onto the pitch and stops the game in front of the referee controlling the match. What right has he/she have to do this? If there is an issue with matches running late then an incident report should be filed to the league or it noted on the match report.DAM wrote:God is an Englishman wrote:To me this depends on how much space is available. eg. at jets there is plenty of space for the A grade team to warm up with the game still continuing. In my experience, the reserves games I've seen always are finished by 2.40pm, so I don't understand why the game is still going at 2.55pm?? If it starts late, the reserves ref must shorten the halves.

The league rules state that the game must end at 2:50 and the 1st team ref has every right to stop it if it goes on longer. It's wrong but then so is the reserves ref for still playing at 2:55pm.

the ref we had for Vale vs Downs in the ressies was pretty good i thought. Handled the 1 or 2 slightly heated moments well, didnt run around handing out cards (which can easily be done in a derby). Was maybe a little slow on the whistle, or signaling 'advantage' which did get the coach shouting a bit

Re: OFFICIAL REFS FOR ALL SAT & SUN PREMIER RESERVE FIXTURES
It's really great that all of a sudden there has been an influx of more referees joining the amateur league. Some have come over from the federation but lots a new refs. Given all the troubles with some clubs, will they still be here in one month, two months or three months time?
It's up to how the clubs behave towards them.
There was a newly qualified ref who joined last year and had terrific promise. He did really really well. Because of the referee shortage, he could never be appointed to a Div 1 reserves game. The amateur league's policy is that all senior games must have an official ref before any surplus refs can be appointed to a reserves game. What a shame for this guy. He could have been accelerated by doing some really tough Div 1 reserves games (I think many of these are better than some lower div senior games in terms of speed and quality).
He would also have been going to better disciplined clubs when doing the reserves games. In the end, he didn't see out the season because of some of the Div 4 and 5 clubs. He said they were pretty scary and he felt totally on his own just trying to keep undisciplined clubs in check.
So it's a real shame he didn't start this year where he could have benefited from being part of the bigger pool of referees.
Let's just hope we can now KEEP this bigger pool, so that any brand new ref starting a career can be looked after a bit more. It takes more than 4 or 5 years to have a new ref ready to have a go at doing a senior Div 1 game. So losing them to lower division clubs in those first couple of years they ply their trade is part of the reason (not all of it) why Div 1 and 2 clubs still see the same refs turn up so often... the new blood has given the game away well before they are ready to do these games.
Anyway... that's how I see it.

Going by what's on here the refs are getting treated very well this season, I think the bad clubs have been weeded out and the refs are better off, in the games since this rule has been brought in we have had great quality refs and they have been shown respect so I hope this can continue next season as well, also stops the dodgy club ref threads
