i think we have been through this last week lol...
again... im not defending anyone, u have to understand there may be a language barrier...it's possible that he cant express or word his decion properly or he could be easily misunderstood....
it goes without saying that he doesnt just make up his own rules...

Im not buying the language excuse. He gave a free kick after one of our reserves took a foul throw. There are language difficulties at the top of the game but I've never seen a ref make up his own rule. Simple

“Well done lad, but remember, you’re still only half as good as I was” – Dixie Dean to Bob Latchford after his 30th league goal in ’78
Hatchet Squad wrote:Have to agree with a few complaining about the polonia ref / linesman. I don't know if he is blatantly cheating or if he genuinely believes some of the decisions he makes. If a player takes a foul throw it is not a free kick to the other team ( which resulted in a goal ). This happened last year. He is completely laughable. I think a SAASL rep should attend a game he is in charge of.
if it is really that bad, clubs have every right to make the call and lets put it to bed once and for all...

fair enough mate.. was there anything else at all to trigger a free kick that u may possibly by some chance have missed or over looked ???
if that is exactly what happened and he gave a free for a foul throw then obviously he 'fucked up and i cant explain why such a decision was made ??

yes he did ask him to go away, i did hear that... and that's the whole reason i went there is to drag the linesman away coz he should have just bloody walked away but by the time i walked up he had been pushed and then swiped the flag...
lol handbags.. good call....
i agree both teams will stick it up to anyone in the div... have to say your first goal was a cracker...
As was your second, he couldnt have hit it any cleaner. Keeper at full stretch was still never gonna get it.
Well I had a conversation with the referee and one of your reserves players at half time in the game, when I had it confirmed three times that 'a player who dived would escape a caution as long as he didn't ask for a penalty' the reserves player had to stop the conversation himself because he knew this referee was dribbling shit.
I spoke to someone from the SAASL and he was amazed when he heard of some of this refereeing decisions, I encourage other clubs to speak up if they have any grievances. All we want is a fair game, and wether the referee is a cheat, has a language issue, or is just incompetent, he shouldn't be ruining games.

i can totally see your point mate dont get me wrong...
sounds a bit funny... im in no way an expert on the laws of the game...
all i can gather from that is.... if a player dives and then appeals for a penalty he is basically confirming the fact that he dived ???
if he is not appealing for a penalty pehaps he just fell over from a "soft" or fair tackle not worth making a big deal over.....
that's just a possibility of what could happen and i dont know the particular incident referred to here....

I can assure you he didn't just 'fall over', IMO a lot can be taken from the reaction of the player who was 'fouled' and those around him. When the player throws his head back, screams in agony and collapses in a heap, but gets up ten seconds later when he realises the ball is still in the box, its a dead give away. Another is the general reaction of the players around him, when his team mates aren't even bothered, or the opposition players are having a go at him, 9/10 you can guage wether he really was fouled or not.
At the end of the day we need referees, but in his own mind he must be pretty close to the end of his officiating days.
just for educational purposes : here are a few points copied from an article about the game's laws on Wikipedia
"Deciding on whether a player has dived is often very subjective, and one of the most controversial aspects of football discussion."
"A 2008 study found that there are recognizable traits that can often be observed when a player is diving. They are:
a separation in time between the impact and the simulation,
a lack of ballistic continuity (the player moves further than would be expected from the momentum of the tackle) and
lack of contact consistency (the player nurses a body part other than where the impact occurred, such as contact to the chest causing the player to fly to the ground, holding his face)."
"In addition the "Archers bow" pose, where the head is tilted back, chest thrust forward, arms raised and both legs bent at the knee to lift both feet off the ground to the rear), is recognised as a characteristic sign of simulation, as the action is counter to normal reflex mechanisms to protect the body in a fall."
"The game's rules now state that "Any simulating action anywhere on the field, which is intended to deceive the referee, must be sanctioned as unsporting behaviour" which is misconduct punishable by a yellow card. The rule changes are in response to an increasing trend of diving and simulation."
"Recently, researchers studying signalling in animals examined diving in the context of communication theory,[5] which suggests that deceptive behaviour should occur when the potential payoffs outweigh the potential costs (or punishments). Their aim was to discern when and where diving is likely to occur, with the aim of identifying ways to stop it."
"The researchers watched hundreds of hours of matches across 6 European professional leagues and found that diving is more likely to occur a) near the offensive goal and b) when the match is tied. None of the 169 dives seen in the study were punished."

Ya gotta give him credit - he's consistent at least!
A few years back I was involved in a game where he was linesman and he was so "good" that night that after about 30 minutes the ref decided to "sub" him and ordered Polonia to get another linesman.

I'm assuming it's the short old bloke who can't speak much English? If you've got more than one who referee's by that description then your club is on a roll.
A few years ago now, back when Nowak was coaching (and still playing also actually).

must have been at least 3 years then... lol ... yes your assuming correctly...
what can i say ??? lol u said yourself you've seen worse as have i... he's done all the courses and what have you, in the end he's only human, he makes mistakes, he's a volouteer who comes out in his own time and im sure he makes a lot of right decisions as well....at the end of the day he's not there to cheat anyone out of anything... we've been around for a while and we've taken plenty of floggings in games he's been involved in..... like i said before, if anyone has a serious issue with it tell the league....

Defend him - like you said yourself, he makes mistakes like everyone else and volunteers his own time...it's how all clubs survive today, and refereeing ain't much fun from what I've seen...and players make alot more mistakes during the course of 90 minutes.
For the record I don't think he cheats on purpose...and I've seen good club referee's who I think sometimes do. Such is life, everyone sees things differently.
Coach of a club I'm involved in was screaming off-side the other weekend and I told him he had NFI what he was talking about...you try explaining to an old wog who thinks he knows it all, what "passive off-side" means...offside is offside to them, no matter which player gets or goes for the ball.

Back to the Polonia ref. I play there and I can tell you that he is a good ref.. His only problem i if someone whiges he tries to explain his decision to them when he doesn't have to.. But there are some real whinging women out there that need to just play and stop bitching at every decision even when it's 100% correct, but against them. Para Hills ressies striker was a classic example.
Sure he makes mistakes, everyone does but i tell you NOTHING is worse than a ref whose influenced constantly by his own team and that does NOT happen with him, but cant say the same when we go to away matches.. He is the hardest worker in the club and the nicest bloke I've ever met and the amount Of abuse he cops I discusting. He is also a life member of Croydon and is well respected.
He was invited to ref the Adelaide United vs Croydon Kings game. He made hard decisions and the players acted professionally and was congratulated afterwards. Maybe that's the difference here.. (professionalism of players) just put the tissues away and play. Having said that Para Hills & South coast boys were pretty good lads. So far, so good.

I've never seen a 'proffessional' referee make up his own rules. There are a lot of people complaining about him. He seems to be the common denominator. He is up there with south coasts linesman in the first team.
