Veteran striker Romario has moved closer to his 1000th career goal with three in Vasco's 6-1 trashing of Volta Redonda in Brazil on the weekend.
Romario scored his three goals in the Rio de Janeiro state championship after entering as a substitute in the 65th minute, with Vasco already leading 3-0.
The 41-year-old veteran scored with a header in the 69th minute, a shot from inside the penalty area in the 76th and another header in the 79th.
Romario, who helped Brazil win the 1994 World Cup in the United States, says he is only 10 goals shy of career goal number 1000.
He hadn't played since December, when he turned out for Adelaide United.
